Not sure if it is me being an old fogey, but I preferred the stadium PA when it wasn't working properly. Before Saturday's game it was at night club volume - could hardly hear the person next to me. And it lost clarity for being too loud. Don't mind music/videos before the game, but they should be in the background. The montage of goals before the game was enjoyable, if only to remind us what scoring goals is like, but the sequence was random. It was all over the place Was quite glad when the game started so my ears could recover Your thoughts?

Watford looked limited but very well organised. We looked like a bunch of spare parts. The only player to come out with any credit was Jack Stephens. It's going to be a long season. Saw my first game in January 1971, just before decimalisation. Adult price was 9 shillings for the East stand. Turnstile operators would let two boys in for the price of an adult, so was four shillings and sixpence. Was also offered a season ticket for 1975/76, but seem to remember that the price was around £100. Was a lot of money to ask my dad for and had no means of income other than pocket money, so turned it down. So didn't get to go to Wembley

Bah humbug. There was life before the Premier League! We were top of the league in 1981/82 for several weeks. And it was in January/February, not at the start of the season. We did trail off rather badly at the end of that season and finished 7th. Two years later we finished runners up, although that was the result of a good late run and we never actually topped the table that season.

I've read it and would recommend it. It's a really enjoyable read. It's better for the fact that it deals both with successes and failures. There's a real warmth about the book and some of it is laugh out loud funny.

It was home to West Ham late one season. I was sat in row 2 of the Milton at the time, only about 3 or 4 yards from the goal. The ball went in off both posts, Mickey Evans clattered into one of them. Everyone was celebrating and he had no idea where he was. One of the bravest goals I have ever seen. Talking of bravery, has anyone mentioned Steve Mills on this thread. Both career and life cut tragically short, but a top bloke.

Agree with most of the comments above. Decent bloke, in the wrong job. Just wasn't a good fit and the football at home was so boring. Just hope that they get the right manager this time round. Need someone who will give the club a lift

Saw a bit of the game tonight. Tadic was involved a lot. He got a clear chance on the edge of the box from a pullback from the byline and completely missed his kick. Least it's not just for us that he does this kind of thing.

We finished above Bournemouth on goal difference. Which of the two would you rather have to watch each week? Be honest! I know that the expectation is much lower at Bournemouth and they are just happy to be there, but it does look as if everyone is enjoying themselves more. Football at Dean Court is much more entertaining. Which is why I am firmly on the Puel out side.

Arsenal away in the LC was pretty good as well. But apart from Liverpool in the LC at home and beating Inter at home, I can't think of too many good memories of the season at SMS. The best times have been away (even Wembley and Inter when we lost). And much of the football that we have seen at home has been dire.

My guess is that the replacement is already lined up.

Really? Puel may be getting the team playing boring football and the majority of the supporters would wish him replaced, but no way is it up with the level of vitriol directed at Branfoot. I remember all the protests and season ticket holders in the West Stand gathered round the directors box giving the directors serious grief. McMenemy turned up as director of football and Branfoot was gone the following week. Agree that we were bound to backwards this season, but my view is that Puel has not got the best out of this bunch of players, and the football is SO boring

This was bound to happen eventually. For the past three summers we have had our best players picked off by the big boys (Lambert, Lallana, Mane, Lovren, Alderweireld, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Chambers, Shaw) plus also lost two excellent managers in Pochettino and Koeman. Last summer's replacements just haven't worked out as well. Puel was an uninspiring choice and appears to have lost both the players and supporters. The new players have not been as good as those that left. The football now is just boring. The frustration is that there have been a handful of games, principally the LC semis and final, when we played really well. Just not been very many of them. For me we need to get Puel out as soon as the final whistle goes on 21 May. Get someone else in who can support the rebuild and hopefully stop some players (Suarez, Bertrand in particular) from leaving. Ranieri is rumoured, although I would prefer Jokanović from Fulham if they don't go up. Fear is that if we keep Puel then the exodus will continue and we will be in a relegation battle next season.

I think most people would admit that walking out to My Way is somewhat tragic (I believe there was a thread not so long ago pointing this out) which got me thinking, which club has the best walking on music? I think for me it's Newcastle United with the theme from 'Local Hero'. Your thoughts (it can be past or present)?

We were late getting tickets for the Man City game and ended up in block 43, which was clearly the tourist section. Apart from countless people with mobile phones, I saw one of the oddest things I have ever seen at a game. When he arrived, the young Japanese gentleman sat next to me proceeded to get out a wet wipe and meticulously cleaned the seat. Even kneeling down to see better. Given that these seats are usually covered in netting they did not look especially grubby. What are the oddest things that you have seen at games?

They do look seriously impressive. Makes me appreciate the Southampton scouting team when you think that we brought him to English football.
