  1. In tribute to Southampton's favourite son, who died 20 years ago today: Enjoy ladies & gentlemen.
  2. I've done some research & was nearly right: "In 1985, Argentine goalkeeper Nery Pumpido almost lost a finger in a freak training ground accident when he caught his wedding ring on a rogue nail on the crossbar". http://goalkeepersaredifferent.com/keeper/injuryframe.htm
  3. I think it was an Argentinian keeper, iirc he caught it on one of the hooks that the net hangs on. It was reading this that made me remove rings when I played.
  4. You beat me to it, this is what I was thinking as I was reading through.
  5. If he were to tell, he'd have to kill you.
  6. I could have phrased it better, when I typed "we" I meant the established fullbacks, not the team as a whole.
  7. I know where you're coming from, but I really wouldn't want any inexperienced players blooded in the remaining games of this season, there's nothing to suggest they are better that the current incumbents, and the consequences could be disasterous given our current situation. I guess the thing to do with them is (assuming we get promoted) is to send them on loan to Championship clubs, or see how we fare in the Prem, if we are struggling, then give them ago.
  8. Pretty sure we didn't blow the FA Cup & JPT, both pretty big occasions (well one of the anyway, the other was "big" relative to the situation we found ourselves in at the time). So to say we dont "do" them is plainly wrong!
  9. It depends who I'm talking too, at home I always call it a ruler, (incremented in cm, in etc), but in my line if work I use a scale rule, which is a ruler incremented with various scales for measuring scaled drawings, although this is usually refered to as a "scale".
  10. Just a word of caution about West Sands, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there are problems with long term coastal erosion there, may be worth checking out before you spend any significant amount of money.
  11. get in there.............
  12. I wondered why the Plod with dogs & horses were on the loose in Radcliffe Rd.
  13. It's a Costa Coffee now.
  14. There will be if they turn up at So'ton Central & the Rozzers put them on the next train back to Skatesville.
  15. Have the Germans surrendered yet?
  16. I guess you mean the Chapel/Kingsland corner, you can't get through the concourse, but you can pitchside.
  17. Lambert for me. Yet to prove himself in the prem, but his confidence must be sky high, Carroll hasn't recreated his Newcastle form. As far as I can tell Lambert, keeps his head down and doesn't come across a Billy Big******.
  18. Is the plural of stadium, stadia rather than stadiums?
  19. Of course we water the pitch to gain an advantage, why else do the sprinklers come at about 10 minutes before kick-off, when there are still people milling around or warming-up, when it would be feasible to do a routine watering in the morning, or after the match when there is no-one on the pitch?
  20. I too was at Weston Shore, and your picture reminds me how shocked I was at the state of the Canberra as she arrived back home, very different from the pristine liner I'd got used to seeing at the docks.
  21. I don't see a problem with a pitch being prepared to the home sides advantage, just a I didn't see a problem with the ball boys at Reading (I think), slowing down or speeding up the ball returns as they saw approrriatte, or tucking the away fans up in a distant corner of the stadium. That's what home advantage is all about.
  22. Britains finest hour since 1945. The only thing Thatcher got right.
