  1. I know where you're coming from, but I really wouldn't want any inexperienced players blooded in the remaining games of this season, there's nothing to suggest they are better that the current incumbents, and the consequences could be disasterous given our current situation. I guess the thing to do with them is (assuming we get promoted) is to send them on loan to Championship clubs, or see how we fare in the Prem, if we are struggling, then give them ago.
  2. Pretty sure we didn't blow the FA Cup & JPT, both pretty big occasions (well one of the anyway, the other was "big" relative to the situation we found ourselves in at the time). So to say we dont "do" them is plainly wrong!
  3. It depends who I'm talking too, at home I always call it a ruler, (incremented in cm, in etc), but in my line if work I use a scale rule, which is a ruler incremented with various scales for measuring scaled drawings, although this is usually refered to as a "scale".
  4. Just a word of caution about West Sands, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there are problems with long term coastal erosion there, may be worth checking out before you spend any significant amount of money.
  5. get in there.............
  6. I wondered why the Plod with dogs & horses were on the loose in Radcliffe Rd.
  7. It's a Costa Coffee now.
  8. There will be if they turn up at So'ton Central & the Rozzers put them on the next train back to Skatesville.
  9. Have the Germans surrendered yet?
  10. I guess you mean the Chapel/Kingsland corner, you can't get through the concourse, but you can pitchside.
  11. Lambert for me. Yet to prove himself in the prem, but his confidence must be sky high, Carroll hasn't recreated his Newcastle form. As far as I can tell Lambert, keeps his head down and doesn't come across a Billy Big******.
  12. Is the plural of stadium, stadia rather than stadiums?
  13. Of course we water the pitch to gain an advantage, why else do the sprinklers come at about 10 minutes before kick-off, when there are still people milling around or warming-up, when it would be feasible to do a routine watering in the morning, or after the match when there is no-one on the pitch?
  14. I too was at Weston Shore, and your picture reminds me how shocked I was at the state of the Canberra as she arrived back home, very different from the pristine liner I'd got used to seeing at the docks.
  15. I don't see a problem with a pitch being prepared to the home sides advantage, just a I didn't see a problem with the ball boys at Reading (I think), slowing down or speeding up the ball returns as they saw approrriatte, or tucking the away fans up in a distant corner of the stadium. That's what home advantage is all about.
  16. Britains finest hour since 1945. The only thing Thatcher got right.
  17. To be fair though, it's not just this team, but we've always been poor on telly through the years. I'm pretty sure someone posted up some stats earlier in the season, showing the results of all out televised matches. IIRC it was pretty conclusive that we generally lose our tv matches.
  18. Yes, (with the exception on the pen). The midfield didn't create anything for the forwards and the fullbacks didn't put many crosses in. This is stuff that RL revels in. It made no difference who was up top today, we wouldn't have won.
  19. Bugger. Poor performance from the defence. Not sure we really missed Lambert, (with the exception of the penalty), as we didn't provide anything for the forwards to feed on. Thought Guly did ok, Davis kept us in it in the first half. Jos was the worst I've seen him play. Bring on the Skates.
  20. I've always played in goal, so never scored a goal "in anger". After playing with the same team for about 10 years, we had a penalty, and being 7-0 up, I was invited to take it. After running the length of the pitch to take it, I smacked the kick as hard as I could, it hit the junction of post & bar. The other players where then party to the undignified sight of me sprinting back to the goal, as the ball remained in play. So in answer to the OP's question, NO!
  21. Whilst Maude's advice was clearly ridiculous, I'm pretty sure he didn't advise transfering petrol between containers, whilst stood in your kitchen next to a lit cooker. I'm sorry, but there is only one thing suitable for this:
  22. KD. Every other position has more than capable deputies & if the replacement isn't up to it, there are 10 other players with with the ability to bail out any errors made. As we all know if a goalie messes up, it could easily result in a goal, unfortunately Bart isn't up to it.
