  1. As long as you shake hands with them afterwards, there wont be a problem.
  2. I didn't realise you could be excused twice, I thought if you deferred once, you had no choice the second time. This assumption was based entirely on the Julie Waters drama on tv last week.
  3. He may not have made a formal application yet. It is possible to submit provisional plans (usually in the form of basic sketches) to a Planning Officer in order to ask their opinion as to whether the proposal is viable.
  4. I think he signed a new contract relatively recently.
  5. FFS I need a lie down.
  6. Blimey. Reportedly suicide, he must have been going through the ringer, poor bloke. Rip.
  7. I wondered that, we are away that weekend, so it may prove a bit of a money spinner for The Stags.
  8. I take your Katalinic & raise you a Wells.
  9. For me wearing a poppy is about remembering the sacrifice made by that particular generation, especially (for me) my grandfathers & step grandfather, thankfully, all of which came back. The people that fought in WW2 had no choice, it was very much a case of do-or-die, the country was faced with invasion & the end of a way of life & possibly their liberty, they were ordinary blokes who never wanted to be heroes, bakers, builders, bank clerks etc etc. For that, I salute & admire that generation. The recent wars we have got dragged into have been political, fought at the whim of career politicians who have no idea of the realities of war, whilst I do not wish to denigrate in any way the job our service men & women do, armed with the knowledge of what the consequences may be, they made a career choice. I'm not sure where I'm really going with this but, as I see it, HFH is a charity for the modern soldier & for the families of the bereaved. So in essence, the Poppy Appeal is for the WW2 vets, is something we should be proud of, and is something I have made sure my children have respect for & understand. HFH is a charity which people should donate too when they feel it is appropriate, rather like Oxfam, or cancer charities etc. I really hope this doesn't sound like I'm belittling what the current members of armed forces do, because that's not what I have meant in anyway.
  10. Whilst I probably agree with most of what you've said, the biggest obstacle to a United States Of Europe is language. I don't purport to be an expert on this, but my guess is that when the states of America became unified, that most of the population spoke English, I'm sure there was a bit of Dutch, Spanish etc, but mostly English. I can't see the Germans, French, Italians or anyone else for that matter changing to the English language, and we've certainly got no chance of changing to a foreign tongue.
  11. Thank god they never built it, it would appear it was to terminate in Townhill Park, that's a bit too close to me in Bitterne Park for comfort: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M27_motorway_(England)
  12. Not free, but I always park at the Kings Mall Shopping centre at Hammersmith & tube the rest of the way. It costs about £13 for the day & it's only 5 minutes walk to the tube.
  13. Booked tickets to see the Bison in a couple of weeks, my youngest son is already excited (as am I) & started jabbering to his mates about it, as for my eldest, he is now officially "too cool" to get excited about things .
  14. The brother of my Scouse mate is a die hard Liverpool fan, but let his season ticket go about 10-15 years ago, due to financial reasons. When his cash flow took a turn for the better he re-applied for a ticket, only to find he was at the end of a very long waiting list. So he gets his prem fix by getting a Wigan ST. I'm told there are quite a lot of Scousers & Mancs who do the same.
  15. I bought a new pc about a year ago & had no problems transfering fron ipod back to itunes, I can't remember specifics, but I would have used the help facilities on itunes to get the job done. Incidentally none of the music I have was bought on itunes, so that shouldn't be an issue.

    WW2 Films

My Favourites are The Great Escape & bridge on the River Kwia. Oh & don't forget that classic, starring our very own Russell Osman - Escape to Victory.
  17. A boxing legend. Rip Smokin' Joe
  18. There are some amazingly clear & poignant photos there, the thing that struck me was just how evil Hermann Goering looks in his mug-shot. The Japanese soldier relieved of his duty in 1974 is still alive, aged 89, he was the penultimate Japanese soldier to give up the fight, the last surrendered in December 1974.
  19. I agree with everything the OP posted, however I just listened to one of the survivors on the radio & she said the fog/smoke was instantaneous, saying that the lights of the car in front suddenly disappeared, all of a sudden there was a collision. It sounds pretty horrific and a situation that any of us could find ourselves in. My condolences go out to those bereaved.
  20. Thanks, but I think you've confused me with someone called Chris.
  21. Personally, wearing a poppy has nothing to do with raising money for the RBL, it's about remembering the sacrifice made by that particular generation, especially (for me) my grandfathers fathers & step grandfather, thankfully, all of which came back. Obviously, the monies raised is a welcome addition, but as I said, it's about thanking that generation for their gallantry & stoicism.
  22. His sister is my sons PE teacher.
  23. It would seem to me that some of the posters on here don't actually know what they are talking about (Hypo). Saint_Jonny may have been naive or fraudulent, it's not for me to judge, only he knows what he was thinking when he placed the ad. It would now appear that the post by Whitey Grandad has been accepted as correct, that some are now just trying to clutch at anything to clobber Saint_Jonny with. It's like watching the school bully.
