Can't understand all the fuss about stripes. Every time I see Stoke and Sunderland i think how 'old hat' they look. We didn't even have stripes when we won the Cup, or when we began or in some of LMc years, what's the fuss. More important we get MP on a new contract, carpark fees and stripes have got nothing to do with it, or having Benali getting a freeby. Get real
-
More important than any new signing is holding on to what we've got
-
The dead wood has gone, the lunatic has gone, Targett has stepped up to the squad which will encourage the rest of the academy, no newcomer is struggling to fit in and everyone knows his role...in my book that means we have strengthened the squad.

Cortese not accountable says Matt. Not accountable to him, and a good job too. Why can't MLT just say NC did a brilliant job for the Club, I know Lawrie Mc and a few others lost their freebies but look how the Club rose from the dead
-
MLT kept us up for years NC got us up from the bottom to the top, didn't they both do well, our two saviours
-
IF NC comes back it will be to complete his work and that means the string of academy talent will continue and we will be watching home grown youngsters form the backbone of Saints and England, that was the project. No need to worry about a flood of Citeh style foreign stars, that isn't the project. But will he be able to get back? I hope so.

Benali and Le Tissier welcome anywhere in SMS

MLT saved us again and again on the field and all but destroyed us off the field, he's not the business type, let him pursue his media stuff -
Alpine goes on about money wasted, but has the value of the club doubled, trebled or quadrupled? I wouldn't mind an investment like that!
-
Hasn't NC been here 5 years? didn't he say there was a 5 year plan? Then at the end of the five years it's natural to review it and produce a new plan which may or may not be under the present leadership. Normal practice. Don't panic! (but I am panicking because he is the brain which has driven everything)

£30 million for for Luke Shaw should we take it?
Dellman replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Is the purpose of the academy to make a profit for Liebherr or to strengthen the team to win things? Everything NC and Liebherrs have done suggests the latter, thank God. And in any case if we win things the value of their investment goes up anyway. So selling our stars makes no sense either to the owners or the team. We are no longer a selling club! Thanks NC and COYR -
KK wasn't with us long enough to be a legend, outside So'ton hardly anyone remembers he played for us, they think of Liverpool,Hamburg Newcastle. We could take him off the banner and add Bobby Stokes or our own ever loyal Nick Holmes as someone else suggested. And of the moderns, of course AL should be there, he's stayed with us all the way down and all the way up

Which Saints Player will take Walcott's place in the World cup squad

Why does Townsend remind me of De Ridder? -
Our league position isn't the only criteria, we fielded seven English players last match, how many did Man C have? One, sometimes none. We fielded four academy players aged 18/19 in one match. How many others do that? None at all, we are in a league of our own as far as home grown produce is concerned. In a few years they will provide the backbone of the England team, we will be competing for the top four and everyone will see why 9/10 is justified COYR

What makes people think we can just 'sign a left back' when we want to? Loads of clubs want a left back, we happen to have one of the best.MP has told us so many times we are not signing in January, we are trusting the academy players, bit risky as we've seen with the goalkeeper issue but that's the policy
-
OK I know I'm really old but there must be some others who remember when Saints were in the old second division and had two right backs competeing for the England spot, ever heard of Alf Ramsey? and the other was Bill Ellerington, the only one of that great team still alive (93 I think) but yes, Clyne is right up there with them and Chambers is not far behind
-
Even if he does have to play with his fingers crossed, I'd prefer him

Vincent Tan tells Malky Mackay to resign - or he'll be sacked

We are so lucky, COYR -
He always seemed a bit of a flop for a record signing and in the relegation season he just didn't want to be there, the club must have been in total meltdown at the time because when he left he really surprised me by doing well esp at Stoke. He's not one I miss or remember warmly

If 'Arry's involved, keep out of it
-
Didn't 'Arry keep him on the bench in the relegation season, with Kevin Phillips?

A team of Academy Products - the Rupert Lowe dream...
Dellman replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
NC persuaded markus to buy Saints when things were at the worst-ever level because he could see a genuinely good infrastructure (unlike down the road) that only needed investment. And that has proved right. I think Lowe has to have some credit for that even though he was absolutely hopeless at everything on the playing side. But the big difference is Lowe only wanted to breed players to sell off and balance the books, NC is ambitious to keep them and build them into a winning side -
A team of Academy Products - the Rupert Lowe dream...
Dellman replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
Laurie's speciality was signing old stars for a final payday, it worked and gave us some exciting years and some famous faces but it was depressing for anyone in the youth system, their prospects were minimal with one set of big names after another taking what would have been their places. Now we are trying to build a premiership squad with depth and the question is will NC and MP do the Laurie thing and use the January sales to cover the injuries or will they give youth a chance? -
With all these injuries the squad suddenly looks thin. It worries me that Poch has said twice that he is not in the transfer mkt in Jan and will use young talent
-
Do they have to pay him compensation?

So many people want 'three quality players added' but the 'quality players' from outside have disappointed so far, why get more of them? It's the home grown guys who have excelled, lets make space for more of them..
