What was the goal difference this time last year?

Old Saints Picture - manager gives team-talk in 1949

It must be Bill Dodgin because when he left for Fulham he took Ian Black as well and he is definitely in the pic -
Old Saints Picture - manager gives team-talk in 1949
Dellman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
From left to right: Sam Warhurst, Charlie Wayman, Ted Bates, Bill Rochford (I think), Eric Day, Len Wilkins, Ian Black, Bill Ellerington (still alive aged 90+), Eric Webber, Wilf Grant, Joe mallet, George Curtis. -
The game actually turned on the missed run out just before the Glamorgan power play, it was an easy run out, just reqd a decent throw from three yards and Adams missed it and laughed all over his face...and we know what happened next
-
Why is our young wk Bates overlooked yet again, he has even proved himself with the bat (70+ last week) and they still prefer this Essex guy. anyone know any reason?
-
And to think Redkrapp kept him on the bench in our relegation year

The Future of English Football - and are Saints playing their part?
Dellman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Southampton will become the model of how to bring on the young talent , by the time of the 2022 world cup Saints will have six or more in the England side -
Steve de Ridder has a pop at English football culture
Dellman replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
I don't see what the issue is, the guy is making a fair point, the glamour style expected of Premiership players didn't suit his outlook and he was happy to take a big pay cut to return to his natural life style. what's wrong with that? We all know that football is living in a parallel universe, he's just saying so. Quite a wise guy in many ways. And certainly not anti Saints -
It's unlikely JWP at the age of 18 will retain present form and remain injury free for a whole season and its certain Morgan and Wanyama will get bookings and probably injuries too, we need Corky, class squad player, he'll be back
-
I haven't forgotten him, in fact I will always remember our revival under him with pleasure and gratitude but what are we meant to do, carry on talking about him and living in the past?

Puncheon to Palace - Official (Season Loan)
Dellman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I like Punch because I really respect the way he came back from serious issues, apologised and then gave everything on the field to win over hostile supporters (including me), it says a lot for NC and management team that it happened, now we've moved up a notch and its good not to stand in his way. Wish you all the best, tho' I don't like Palace -
The point is we are building a squad not a team and we've now got good cover at CB for the first time
-
Bransgrove is obsessed with foreign stars, even to naming a stand after Warne, completely forgetting our own history; remember some guy coming in for the one day final at Lords against Durham and getting 0-80 (never played again)while Udal was left out, Tanvir was as bad. As for Bransgrove being interested in the four day game, where's the evidence?
-
He doesn't score ten less an innings, the distance in their average when we signed Wheater was only three! What a contrast in attitude to youngsters..Saints play three 18 year olds from the academy and Bransgrove ditches our young star. Why? Then he says he backs Pompey because of their greater respect for the past..it's the future we should build
-
We're not looking to replace Rickie we are looking to strengthen the squad and that means sharing the work load with him in a supportive way and having a cover long and short term. Its a squad game these days
-
MLT didn't like training and down at the Dell he was such a senior figure that he didn't need to do much, he had such talent but was lazy about it...what he could have been!

Who is to be praised for the clearing out the deadwood?

Who are we still left with of that lot? Barnard for one and who else? -

The final whistle at Wembley '76 -
Bournemouth have done well to be where they are and were only rivals for a couple of months, but not now. I like them, most So'ton people I meet feel the same, there is nothing to 'hate' about them, they are no threat to us so more they win the better, especially tonight

Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?
Dellman replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool all struggle to make the signings they want, we're not any longer in a minor league signing journeymen. Stop the panic! -
Lambert is not getting old, he is now old as a Premiership striker and will look a heavy plodder from now on, btw I love the guy but reality has to be faced
-
Turkish,Thank goodness you are not running Saints, shouldn't think you're running anything else either
-
Who knows? about wages and profit and loss? It's not our business--and just as well. Just be thankful that after all those years of mismanagement we are now in safe and progressive hands

I'm a Lallana fan, how can anyone who loves Saints not be? He was with us in the Premiership relegation year and has seen us all the way down and stuck with us, now he's seen us all the way up, he really is 'one of us', more than anyone. But I don't think he's the right person for captain and I don't think he recovered well from injury last year. The team used to depend on him, now he's just going to be a squad player
