  1. Hahaha. Really funny article and I particularly enjoyed the use of satire (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/satire) perhaps you gents/ladies should take a quick read of the definition after you've taken a deep breath. Ignoring the American's use of wit, because (my turn to generalise now) that's what most Brits do when they think of the American sense of humour, many Americans are not brought up to believe there future lives will need to have anything to do with this foreign language and are disaffected with our sport. In the eight years I've been here and witnessed NFL, NBA, MLS and college (university in our language) equivalent sport, its the way the athletic programs are setup for students that allows them to excel in more profitable pursuits than football in America. College's well developed sporting programs are setup to encourage students to graduate into professional athletes in the NFL, NBA even pro golf and play those sports in North America where their lives exist, rather than football. Soccer is a massively growing 'alternative' sport in the US played by everyone up to college, boys and girls - look at the success of the US women's national team, but is essentially only played to our sixth form level and then students are offered a chance at an education free of charge (or heavily subsidised) to learn and play for a university. Yes, there are soccer scholarships but they are fewer in number than most other American sports. America grew and created its own sports possibly because the Pilgrims were attempting to create something different to the place they were escaping when they first landed at Plymouth Rock. However many Americans will find time to enjoy our sport, as much as many Brits enjoy the NBA, NFL and NHL. Just out of curiosity have any you watched a full game of those three sports? And or college sport?
  2. Good grief. My confidence is growing that we're going to win games. There's still nervousness but I haven't seen us in person to know if the final ten minutes of games are full of fear or confidence. Great result. The other inspired half-time substitution was taking off Saints commentary and bring on MK Dons commentary. Much more entertaining, more partisan support of Saints than we had from Merrington and the quality was much better and didn't drop out every few words.
  3. Both teams playing a 4-5-1 (according to Merrington) Davis Harding Jaidi Trotman James Waigo Hammond Wotton Spiderman Lallana Lambert
  4. Question is, is it worth me trying to track the show down online? Given the dire quality of live game commentary, decent quality game coverage although it is only available several days after the game when some of the excitement has worn off, what are the alternatives? Hope a friend can put the phone near the radio so we can listen for free? Nope because the quality of commentary is still poor. Move back to the UK? Because of the football show. We need someone to create an alternative broadcaster to create some competition and increase the quality of the current drivel we receive. I would pay at least ten pounds more a year for better quality and one hundred or more for live games...
  5. YEEES! Get in Rickie Lambert. Fantastic stuff. Likewise - one left for me also. Ah, bugger.
  6. You just saved me having to go through the process of signing up for a free trial/account again for another week - cheers. Until commentary improves can't really be arsed. Watching Sunderland score early against Liverpool instead having already seen Villa beat chelsea from two setpieces. nice.
  7. Thanks Waggy - had no idea there was a Saints Youtube channel.
  8. Watching Bolton vs. Spurs and reading the text updates here is a pretty good start to a Saturday. Reads like we're actually improving and dominating which is a relief.... only four more years to wait and we might be back on TV in the US
  9. Looks like Glasgow Saint has more variation in his use of corners than Saints...
  10. Had a little play with the demo last night for 15 games or so, and agree with many of the posters on here. The fluidity of movement has improved over 09, quick free kicks are a nice touch, corners are better. Penalties are now a little harder to score against, the AI has improved in this area also. Tackling now has an element of skill attached to it, no longer can I merely time a sliding lunge and come out with the ball, you really do have to anticipate and read the play - the AI played around it a few times, not merely leaping over the lunge as in 09. Perhaps this relates to the birthday card haul of reds and yellows I received last night. Free kicks are still a mystery, chatting to the Fifa product manager in the US he suggested that many of the engineers also failed to score free-kicks in 09... will probe for more info on 10. Negatively I did notice several offsides that weren't called against the opposition and one for me. The defensive AI is relatively easily to glide past with some players. Messi is slow and gets knocked off the ball easily, but Henry is lightening fast? The substitution in-game video is bloody irritating and hope there's an option to turn that off, especially as the AI now introduces three subs in the final ten minutes regardless of the score. What happened to my ability to lob the ball... that's gone even in the arena... maybe i need to practice
  11. Does Civilization for PC, iPhone and Xbox 360 count? Its probably the only strategy game I really enjoy and can be played before I turn into a zitty, pale skinned amorphous blob of human - relatively quickly.
  12. Not having to wait 5 months between seeing matches on TV....
  13. 0-0 today First goal will be next week.
  14. Nice to see Dean Hammond's first contribution let his opponent know he's there.. 01.12 Foul by Dean Hammond(Southampton) on James Vincent(Stockport).
  15. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/player/LiveMatches Does anyone else see the banner at the top of the page that's informing the viewer there's only 9 hours 43 mins until the next game - rather weird. Not paying for SaintsTv coverage, as I have done for the last few years, until they sort the quality out.
  16. I'll be happy with a narrow 1-0 home win but suspect its going to be a 1-1.
  17. Feck this - I'm going to work on a suntan/skin cancer and do something less damaging than wasting my Saturday morning with this crap.
  18. Corner not cleared properly, another goal conceded because we can't deal with setpieces. Why are we doing the basic things wrong and how can we change it? Perry, Thomas, Davis, Harding and Murty are all experienced.
  19. Bloody hell Colchester have scored 8 more goals than us already this season....
  20. Lambert is the new Beattie. Does that make Wotten the new Oakley and Davis the new Flowers?
  21. Oops, I'll take back the bit about no live text commentary - just found this match live centre. We've had 57% possession. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/player/LiveMatches/0,,10280,00.html
  22. Woah. I'm aware that the OS changed the way it was operating during the dark days of administration but not impressed with the level of information available to fans yet. The old match commentary and live updates on the OS were adequate but to fall as this far is awful. The new player is dreadful and there are no live written updates on OS. Thanks to all that are providing regular updates. C'mon you reds.
  23. Still no team news on OS. Saints: (from) Davis, Bialkowski, Thomas, Harding, Murty, Perry, Lancashire, James, Gobern, Schneiderlin, Thomson, Gillett, Wotton, McNish, Lallana, Mellis, Paterson, Saganowski, Lambert, Rasiak.
  24. I do feel confident going into this. We've beaten a poor Northampton side when we were finding out feet and drew with a strong Millwall side when we were even less sure of ourselves. We're a step closer to where we need to be and have two new signings. Going to win 2-0.
  25. The Northampton game highlights "have expired please delete" but Millwall are up there... although I haven't been able to load either of the games on Skysports.com yet. I'm not tempted to spend the cash on the PremiumTV package if its worse than SaintsTV was but I do need my match commentary and highlights of reserve and first team games. Hmmm...
