  1. To be fair to Pelle, that 2nd goal he scored had been coming for weeks. I'm sure he's hit the bar so many times from that position over the last few months. The first goal lifted him and he worked his arse off which was pleasing to see. He's not the quickest player, heck I'm quicker, but this was the Pelle we loved during the first half of this season. Let's hope he can end the season with a bang, as he's always had the ability - it just hadn't happened for him and it hit his confidence as a result.
  2. It was a terrific game, Spurs were pretty poor until we scored - both times! It seemed that our goals woke them up from their slumber, although their 2nd came from nothing and was pretty rubbish to be honest. But overall a really, really enjoyable 90 minutes of football. Lots of effort, blood and thunder, apatite, quality, goals....it was a terrific premier league game in my opinion. I think we did shade it, but on the overall game we are two very even sides - so being level on points is about right! The goal gave Pelle the lift he needed, and his 2nd was Pelle from the start of the season. If he starts firing again, then we can finish 5th/6th. After the season we've had at the back, it looks dodgy now with Davis back there - no surprise really to be honest. Puts to bed all the ******** about Forster not being that good. But Steven Davis, jesus christ - what the hell!
  3. Davis hasn't had a great season tbh, always very reliable for us, but not so much in recent weeks. In my opinion, this is what we have lacked all season. A number 10 who can hit 5-10 goals from that position. We've tried JWP and Davis from that position, and neither are really that sort of player and their goal return is horrific. I think this is an area we need to look at, I know people will jump on the bandwagon that we need a striker - that's why we don't score many goals - but it's the duty of more than just Pelle. We need a new AMC who can pop up as a genuine goal threat most weeks.
  4. I didn't realise he'd turned down Barca when he was at Ajax, blimey. As I thought, a very genuine and honorable bloke. In good hands, I felt that from the moment we got him. He's just got this aura of confidence and belief about him, which only top level world-class players have. Lucky and privileged to have such a famous name managing our club.
  5. I've seen stranger things. Man City in particular need to add English players to their squad, as they're short at the mo. I think they've resigned Richard Wright as 1051205350th choice keeper, just so they have an english name on their squad list. What with Milner not signing a new deal yet, Sinclair off in the summer, Richards out of contract, Dedrik Boyata too....they are in desperate need to add English names. Not that they'll play them, just so they'll be able to submit a squad list. It'll be exactly like Rodwell and Sinclair all over again. They were never signed by City to be anything other than squad fillers to ensure they met the requirements. As much as the FA PL think this is helping, along with FFP, it's just creating an even more ****ty situation. If Jay does go, then he is a complete and utter idiot who has just ****ed his career down the drain. But at least he'll have some extra $$$
  6. Yeah, that was odd. And to be fair, that statement is probably 100% true. The idea that his agents have been talking in the background is probably closer to the truth. It happens and is probably happen as we speak.
  7. I don't think it's stalled, I just think it's naturally evened it's self out. The bigger squads, the most expensive teams with the bigger players eventually rise to the top, even if they have inconsistent seasons. The problem is for us to maintain the level we were on, we needed all of our key men to play at 100% every week - that's physically impossible, and when you don't have a big squad to freshen it up, you will start to fade as your key players wilt a little and pickup knocks/suspensions etc. But that's the life of being a club like Southampton, our only real chance to break the top 4 is to hope a Man Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal/City completely and utterly implode - and we'd probably need at least 2 of them to do that. As good a team as we are, the season will always eventually take it's toll both physically and mentally.
  8. He's a good player, but is very injury prone. We'd need him and 1 other, as he wouldn't last all season.
  9. If he pushes for a move this summer, he has been incredibly badly advised. He'd be ruined as a player, another Rodwell or Sinclair in the making. - although sinclair seems to be making an attempt to get back on track after 3 years of zilch. Also his reputation would be in tatters - let the club get you fit for a year, rake home the money, and never play for them again as you want to leave after all their help.
  10. Mane is our main goal threat, the one player who is capable of getting in behind, to the byline, stretching the game. Why would you want to sell him? He is a massive player for us.
  11. I heard them talking about this on the BT Sport European show on Sunday, they suggested that Boca's 'dream' is to have Osvaldo and Tevez up front for them.
  12. I actually think that article is a little easy on them. The only signings I'd put down as hits are Can, Sturridge and Coutinho. The rest have been rubbish. But I agree with you on Lambert, the misuse of him this year has been a travesty and he's just ****ed his career up the wall. It was pretty much summed up on Sunday. 90 mins on the clock, let's throw on Lambert and ''hit it long'' - yes, because that's all Lambert is good for, isn't it. Such a genius tactician.
  13. Apparently he dislocated his shoulder, but it popped back in and there was no lasting damage. Koeman seemed to think there will be no issues. It looked a lot worse than it was, thankfully.
  14. Surely the better way of growing the club is to improve the amount of and standard of competitions we play in? I don't think winning the league cup is going to increase our fan base or get us to increase our stadium. Playing in Europe of a long-period of time may do however. Cup wins are great, but as we have seen with Wigan, Birmingham, Boro - they don't mean a lot in terms of the long-term growth in the grand-scheme of things. Consistently competing in European competition however would mean a lot more.
  15. Kelvin - Great servant, but not good enough for the PL. Forster - Hit - Terrific GK. The injury is not just a huge blow for us, but also for his career. Doubt we'll see him until the back end of 2016. Clyne - Hit. Will be a huge miss when he goes, love the way he wins the ball back, keeps it in play and surges down field with it. Toby - Hit - Terrific centre back, but a little injury prone. Would be number 1 for me to sign in the summer though. Fonte - Hit - massive season for Fonte. Establishing himself as an international and a proper PL centre back. He is a true captain. Bertrand - Hit - The biggest compliment you can make is that we haven't really missed Shaw. Had a great season Maya - Hit - Looks a hell of a lot better this year. Distribution is better, composure is better. Garods - Miss - Looks like a bit of an odd £6m signing this one. Not sure what his future is here. I think he has talent, but he's gone backwards since he's been here. Looks clumsy and prone to rash mistakes. Targett - Solid season, not really a hit or a miss. Hasn't played much, but hasn't let himself down when he has. Not at the level of Shaw or Bale, but a decent player all the same Morgan - Hit - terrific player, enjoy watching him these last few games as I don't think we'll have someone quite as good as him for a while. How we replace him is one of the biggest calls of the summer, very tricky. Wanyama - Hit - He has had a great season, better distribution of the ball combined with his usual, trademark powerful performances. Should still be here for at least another year before the big clubs start sniffing. JWP - Like Targett, not really a hit or a miss. Just a steady season, but you want to see more from him now...he needs to stamp his mark down on a game and in the team, that's the next stage of his development. Technically, he has the lot. Davis - Again, not a hit or a miss. I'm a big fan of Davis but I don't think this year has been one of his finest. His lack of goals from midfield is alarming and when he plays in the advanced position, he needs to start popping up with some goals. Recent weeks have seen him drop well below par. Tadic - I'd have to give him a Hit. I think he came in with a decent reputation and hit the ground running. He was powerful, direct, competitive and full of ability. That has tailed off now, quite worryingly it has to be said, but he has still had a pretty big impact on our season. Reed - Hit - In the games he's played, he's been terrific. Not the most technical, but a proper all action, combative midfielder. Will probably play a lot next year. Elia - Miss - Huge disappointment for me. I just hope we dodge the signing of him. Bar the 2 goals against Newcastle he has offered nothing, looks like a career on the slide Dujuric - Miss - Reminds me of Iago Falque when we brought him in. Similar impact. I.e nothing. Long - Miss - He's not really done it for me. Runs a lot but, to me, is a typical Stoke or WBA centre forward. Hasn't really got much ability, but puts in a shift. Although he wasn't just bought for goal scoring, his return has been very poor. Mane - Hit - Love Mane, top player. Our best attacker in my opinion and probably our best signing of the summer. I love is versatility in that he can play right, left, in behind or even as a striker. Always a threat, always capable of doing something brilliant whilst at the same time something truly bizarre. He's our main goal threat to be honest. Pelle - Miss. Not jumping on the bandwagon, but after a ok start he has tailed off dramatically. I mean even at the start he had some stinkers and missed some sitters. I personally think he's ok, but he does hinder us when he's not in (which seems to be most weeks at the moment). 9 goals in 33 PL games is on the poor side to be honest, I did expect a bit more. Koeman - Hit. Huge season, ambitious, honest and straight-talking. Love his approach and the players seem to have taken to it very well.
  16. What's the history between Krul and RK? Can't remember him managing him before?
  17. To be fair, when we sign a GK they will be number 1, that's all our intentions should be - sign a new number 1 quality GK, it shouldn't be in anyone's mind that they will be backup. No room for sentiment in hoping Fraser returns ok, if and when he does, he'll take the mantle as backup keeper. That's how I think it should be handled anyway. We were bitten when we tried to sign stop gaps for Killer, let's not do the same.
  18. What do we need this season then? a top 10 finish with nothing to show for it, allowing us to focus on our campaign to avoid Europe next year? Sounds a right blast. But count me out.
  19. Two top signings right there, and gettable.
  20. The over-reaction on here after we lose never ceases to amaze me, it's very cringeworthy.
  21. What trophy can we still win this season exactly? I'd love to win something too, but I still believe a certain MP blew our best chance of a final last season. Finishing in a European place is kind of like reaching a final for a club like us. We will hopefully have a decent run in a cup within the next season or so, but I'd say finishing in a European place via a league position is going to offer the club a lot more growth, as opposed to winning a cup and finishing in the bottom half - or being relegated.
  22. What's potentially all over?
  23. The media love-in over Rogers has been so cringeworthy. He's a huge failure as Liverpool manager, basically.
  24. I hope Gerrard plays for them for the rest of the season, as that will equal plenty more losses.
