  1. I think he played for Gateshead but only briefly before they realised he was crap.
  2. We were introduced to slide rules in the early 1970's but I could not master them, nor could many others. Calculators were just creeping in though , and our Maths Dept realised that the slide rule did not have long to go. My father however was a wizard with the slide rule and could easily beat me armed with either a calculator or a log book to get to the (correct) answer. Logarithms , and the log book, have also been confined to history it seems. I asked young badger about this in his GCSE year and it was obvious that my Maths syllabus for 'O' level (in old money) had been drawn up at the time of the Ark. 'Sin' & 'Tan' ? What became of them ?
  3. There are several things I detest about the Premiership, but want to see Saints play - and win -at the highest level they can. Whilst another season in the NPC might be "fun", I suspect we would lose a few key players and next season might not be the ride we hope for. Several clubs who miss their opportunity fall away in subsequent seasons.
  4. My old Technical Drawing teacher at school would always insist on it as being called a "rule", which supports your view, and in Maths it was often (incorrectly) called either, except when it was a "slide rule". Tell that to kids today, they've no idea of either 'Technical Drawing' or slide rules.
  5. Good job it does not fall on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster then, otherwise it might have to be cancelled.
  6. kin ( as in fuh'kin 'ell)
  7. Yes, to a point. But the club were quick to try and dispel rumours re RL's potential abscence for any prolonged period after Blackpool.
  8. Exactly what I was fearing. The 'silence' on this does not bode well.
  9. I don't think I have missed any releases on this, but was is the latest on his injury, and how long is he expected to be out ?
  10. His abscence suggests that Adkins believes JP has 'thrown his oar overboard' , or is unable to row in the same direction and pace as those around him. For whatever reason, he does not appear onboard still. Shame as I thought he might have grasped the opportunity and with something to prove he might have added some aggression into our fight.
  11. Tend to agree with you, especially in the current climate of gloom after last night, but: wasnt Brighton away last season a "big occasion" ? or Orient away, Brentford away, Plymouth away ? Games with Huddersfield breathing down our necks. To be fair, NA has experience of handling squads in promotion run-ins. Just hope his skills here don't desert him.
  12. Don't think anyone wished for a 194? repeat, but flagged it upas how things can go t!ts up from a good position. As for "control the controllables" , I wish we could, by putting away a few of our multiple chances created in games where we have 60% possession, or take a gilt egded opportunity such as a penalty at 0-0, and above all we don't easily give possession away (three times) to give opponents chances... Had we controlled these things we should have "controlled" , then we'd be points clear .
  13. As above. Reading have certainly had a better return on him than we have had - so far - on Sharp.
  14. Not particularly impressed by Chaplow tonight, but I think its been long established that De Ridder simply can not start a game.

    Jose Fonte

As I saw it: Fox at fault for the first with an overly ambitous pass. Hammond lost possession too easily for the second, although Le Fondre did have too much time and room to score Third goal... game might have been over by then..but feeble back header

But it was frequently stated that not good enough, as not tried at this level. Reading sign him for about £300,000 . No further comment.
  17. and well done to those on the charity cycle ride today NA would like to take part next year (perhaps a little tongue in cheek).
  18. Brighton are truly a shining example of a club embracing their community, and lead the way. We too should do more to encourage arsebandits/shirtlifters into football. In fact anyone in capped tee-shirts, leather caps and sporting a Freddie Mercury moustache should be given complimentary tickets to attend matches (if Brighton beat Reading).
  19. The Amex Stadium makes The Bernabau seem like Totton Rec.
  20. Good thread, I too think we should express our admiration for them and think Adkins should be whipped to within an inch of his life for not giving them a guard of honour last season. Going further, I really wish we had a manager who involved himself in the game more, trying to get opponents players sent off. And I admire the loyalty shown by the bestest ever right back thw world has ever seen,Caulderon, sometimes cruelly referred to as Indigo Cardigan (sn!gger, sn!gger) by their fans, in staying with them instead of taking the 'filthy money' on offer.
  21. He won't have a job by the play off final so it will not matter anyway. Yes, we're just (ten from) Dagenham and Lambert don't forget.
  22. Brum 2-0 up. Slobberdyce's gum chewing goes into overdrive, and the knot on his tie down to his chest. Keep this up and the fat reptile won't see the season out at Upton Park.

I suspect the original comment was regarding Saturday rather than today.
  24. yyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss
  25. Thinking the same. I was surprised when he and Falque were warming up pre-match v Doncaster the other week. From that I assumed he was still on the periphery but part of the squad. That now seems less likely to me.
