  1. I don't think his move there was particularly successful as despite being a local lad he received a pretty torrid time down there. Surprised it took 48 posts for someone to remember Channon's time there.Just goes to show there are too many youngsters on here!
  2. No, actually I think they will travel in the same directions that we did, just in a different order to us.
  3. Been wondering how this will work, and how coaches for 3,000 will be parked away in a confined area behind the Northam so as to keep the skates away from civilisation after the match. Will a large section of Britannia be barricaded off like a war zone ?
  4. Hurt by Johnny Cash or shoot the pompey scum
  5. Wasn't Cortese first attracted to the club by the media frenzy regarding Paul Allen ? If so we owe a debt of gratitude not so much to Paul Allen himself, but the hangers on who invented and perpetuated the myth for ages, whoever they might be (McLoughlin, Help me Rhonnda, Barry the Briefcase ?, a cast of thousands...)
  6. The most dangerous threat to us as above.
  7. Serious and simple answer though, Markus Liebherr. with able assists from Cortese and his two managers both of whom have contributed to varying degrees of attracting players ( AP deserves plaudits for Lambert, Fonte and persuading Lallana for stating at a L1 club), changing the mentality to a winning one and keeping 'the bus' storming forward.
  8. He did of course show us the way however, and the blueprint for success. ie he invented the academy, and then there was the radio staion and the catering * * in a kind of "blessed are the cheesemakers" sort of way.
  9. When he first signed one musical genius and songsmith suggested on here that we adapt the 'Spiderman' theme tune to: "Schneiderlin, Schneiderlin he does more than Wesley Scheider can.." Sorry forgot the rest, may be in archive if you want to search, assuming it to be this board and not an earlier creation. Obviously the song never again was heard of.

    Pearce

Bit in bold is the nub of it though isn't it ? Not saying Pearce might or might not be the answer and you know more about him than me, but we probably need an extra body available for CB.

That typifies the wacky internet world and spread of unfounded rumour. Skate puts a "wind up" on their site and within minutes it is hotly debated on here.
  12. After a frantic 58 minutes got through, and got the tickets.

We might of course bring in another 'Dale Stephens' , give a player a chance to prove himself - whilst providing backup - and dispense with them if they don't appear to be able to cut it. I would not be surprised if we bring another loan in , but doubt it will be Pearce somehow.
  14. 01271 .. just checked... Barnstaple ....
  15. more music............please let it be so........
  16. Clearly no rhyme or reason to this f'kin system.
  17. Don't suppose you noticed if anyone was bothering to answer the phones whilst you were there did you ?
  18. Have just had 15minutes of tinned music only to be told at th end that operators are busy and then dropped off the system to start all over again. Might as well accept that I - like many others - have been 'shafted' over the allocation process and won't be going.
  19. I really don't see the just justification in existing ticket holders buying an extra ticket ahead of 'members' - as used to be called in the old days - with a purchase history.
  20. Ditto. Can't even buy online.
  21. I think we were at one stage , 5points ahead of West Ham but 8 points from 3rd place. Possibly wrong, but that too is my recollection.

Oh, well I certainly was not aware of that. Agree that is out of order .It is quite a development then because I recall the "I would never sack Roberto" on 5live. And although I can understand berating England managers, again I agree not his place to do so, had it been Rupert the media would have had a field day. Can understand your view although still see him in a more favourable light than some of the alternatives I mentioned.

I remember a time when many said that about us though whilst we were playing at The Dell with a 15,000 - 19,000 crowd. My argument was that we were there and stayed there on merit.

Interseting observation, but not one I share really. In the interviews I've heard Whelan has come across as someone who genuinely cares about his club and has done pretty well for it yet sees a succession of managers jumping ship (Bruce for one). Whelan seems more of a Jack Walker/ Sir Jack Heywood type of benefactor/owner than an egotist such as Bates, Abramovich (or the other Russian oligarch/Indian chicken processors). I'm sure many clubs - including one down the M27 - would be better off with a Whelan in charge. Oh well, we'll have to respectfully disagree on that point .... unless we can run to a few pages of petty insults of course...
