  1. Here come the Cameron-luvvies, out in force again.
  2. Yeah, pretty often and sometimes before. Like I say, that was never a possibility as a primary school teacher, but as a sixth form English teacher I get fewer lessons and more planning time. Some days my teaching ends at 11.30. I have work to do, but often I can do it in my own time or even at home, as long as I spend a certain amount of time in the building when I'm available to students. I've taught all ages from 4 years old all the way up to 40 years old and teaching the youngest ones was by far the hardest and most demanding. It took more of my time, was more stressful and paid less. I have a huge amount of respect for (most) primary school teachers and less for teachers at higher levels who generally moan about their workload far more.
  3. Depends on the job, doesn't it. When I was a primary school teacher I used to arrive at least an hour early, work through every lunchtime and leave two or three hours late every day, now I'm an English teacher I get planning lessons to do all of the extra crap, so I can **** off at the end of the school day. It's an odd thing in teaching, the younger the age group you teach, the harder you work and the less you get paid.
  4. I expect they'll get back together and make new music even better than the old stuff and will stay together for the long term just building on their reputation. Just like usually happens.
  5. I have found it impossible to get a decent game of innebandy since moving from Oslo to Bergen. Used to play every week with a group of Canadian ice hockey players, no rules. If I played now I'm pretty sure I'd be crippled for a week.
  6. He'd be a very good choice for them. Hope they get someone else, maybe Stuart Gray.
  7. Turkish has taken over as the new king of the petty squabble hasn't he? All over every thread with niggling little digs at people. Try to get a nice relaxing hobby or something, Turkish, take your mind off how angry it makes you that some people's comments on the internet are superfluous.
  8. Always sounds and looks like an awful place to me. Just a desert with a big city. I guess if big cities are your thing it's ideal. Give me forests, mountains and fjords any day.
  9. We've got a nice open fire, I don't find it much fuss and it puts out a very nice kind of heat. I also get to feel all manly going out to chop wood with my axe.
  10. You need to talk to Junction 9, he knows about this sort of thing when he's not swanning around the southern hemisphere.
  11. If they're treating them differently and unfairly because of religion, it's another case of political incorrectness gone mad. If there's a legal precedent with reasoning not explained in that small clip of information, it's difficult to comment.
  12. I am listening to Tom Waits/The Cookie Monster. Big thanks to the original Stain for this... Uncanny and wonderful.
  13. As I have lots of work I should be doing, I found myself idly looking on wikipedia at the size of UK cities and their urban areas. I think urban area is the more relevant factor for football support, as most people in Eastleigh would support saints and most people in Christchurch would consider Bournemouth their local team etc. I'd always thought our larger support was mostly down to our being the bigger catchment area, but I was surprised that the Southampton urban area is only 304,400. pompey's is a whopping 442,000 and Bournemouth's is 383,700. Leeds must have the biggest area to themselves with just one team for over 800,000 people, not including Bradford, Wakefield etc, Newcastle have similar. I don't know what point I'm making, but you can't argue with it.
  14. If President Obama says he wants to kill him, that's all the proof I need. This man is judge and jury to me. I've worn loads of uniforms and I also believe in the death penalty without trial if it's what the government want.
  15. Brilliant
  16. Gagging for a p!ss?
  17. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't actually really do any of this stuff (the complaints or the cat posters), but they're still funny ideas.
  18. I have a student (a Norwegian one) who suffers from dyslexia in Norwegian, but has no problems in English. I can't really understand how that's possible, but it seems to be true. Perhaps all people suffering from dyslexia just need to find the right language. In response to your question, I'm no expert, but it sounds reasonable. Dyslexia comes in many forms and some people are able to read through simple devices like using a different coloured background for the text.
  19. I love coffee, but I can't help but laugh at the current way people are being taken in by companies trying to make money out of something simple. These cartridge machines are a pretty transparent con, making you have to go back and buy cartridges regularly for coffee? it's ****ing simple to make an excellent cup of proper coffee, basically with a kettle, a filter paper and a plastic filter paper holder, or one of the simple drip machines if you have to. Obviously they make **** all money out of people doing that, so they've finally devised a machine where you have to keep going back and paying them for something and people are so desperate for the next gadget, they're actually stupid enough to buy them. All you need for perfect coffee is a bag of good coffee, a filter paper and a way to drip freshly boiled water through it. No mess, no fuss and no stupid cartridges. Don't over-complicate something so easy just because Nestle or whoever say you have to, they might just have a vested interest in it.
  20. Bit odd that the OP was so specific saying he wasn't asking about a starting place, but about whether there was a place for him on the bench, yet the replies so far say he shouldn't be in the first eleven and shouldn't replace Lallana, a bit irrrelevant. In reply to what was actually asked, I'd love to see him get a chance, but Dickson has the defensive option and De Ridder would probably be the winger of choice from the bench. Holmes might just suffer from the fact that we haven't really missed him while he's been injured, so nobody's really bothered about him.
  21. This site? look above and you'll see this site agrees with me, at least those who live in Scandinavia, read David in Sweden's post above. You don't have to spend long in any of the Scandinavian countries to realise how separate Finland is and why. Its closest ties are to Sweden, although linguistically it's actually closest to Hungarian, but they also don't regard it as part of Scandinavia. The Scandinavian countries all have deeply intertwined histories, understand each other's languages without ever having to learn them and enjoy friendly banter and rivalry. Finland aren't ever mentioned and have no strong partnership with Scandinavia. I've worked in or with international schools and state schools in all three Scandinavian countries and the difference between Nordic countries and Scandinavia has been part of the geography syllabus. Have a look at Wikipedia, they explain it fairly well too.
  22. Finland is a Nordic country, but not a Scandinavian one. Scandinavia is both a cultural area (ruling out Finland with an unrelated language and culture) and a geographic one (ruling out Iceland, which has a related language, but is far removed). Iceland is also a Nordic country. All Scandinavian countries would laugh at the idea of being grouped with Finland, with whom they share nothing but a small border. In other words, you can't choose Niemi unless we change the thread title.
  23. snideAdjective 1. Derogatory or mocking in an indirect way: "snide remarks". 2. (of a person) Devious and underhanded.
  24. Anyone else feel a little uncomfortable when they read the bit where he described his mum's tits as being firm?
  25. Just draw on yourself with biro (or felt tips if you want colour), or get a friend to do it. It's really just the same thing, but you can change it when you get bored of it.
