Actually felt a bit sorry for Hughes today. Clearly we were sitting deep and it wasn't pretty but at the time Ings missed an open goal from 2 yards out - fashioned by some excellent play - it was 0-0 and Chelsea hadn't had a decent sight of goal. The problem is that we just don't have the character or bottle to deal with adversity. When your captain is Ryan Bertrand you know you're in trouble. He's a cracking left back but he's not a leader.

Not just free kicks, ball striking in general. Shouldn't JWP ping one in from 25 yards occasionally? Beckham scored 62 goals in 265 Premier League games and got 80 assists. I haven't checked your free-kick stat but assuming it's correct that means 75% of his goals cake from open play. JWP has 10 goals in 169 PL appearances and 19 assists. I know Beckham played in a better team but we've been pretty decent for a fair chunk of JWPs PL career. Yes, JWP aesthetically can "do a Beckham" but the comparison ends there.

He's copied the technique to the point he can do a cracking tribute act, for sure. However, Beckham regularly found the back of the onion bag and was a go-to guy under pressure (Simeone incident, notwithstanding). Beckham's ball striking is up there with the best ever. JWP does a top, top, top near miss.

Hi Saints Fans! Does anyone travel from the jewel of the south to Reading for work? How good are the trains? I used to commute to London and got sick to death of it but I've got a very nice offer of work in Reading now.
