Should we be offered a referendum on the EU?

I agree. Those twins should have been voted off X factor ages ago. -
Anthems that make your hairs stand on end..
Wiltshire Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
Kongesangen - now that's how an anthem should sound. We could learn something from the Norweigans. Other "anthems" that make my hairs literally stand on end include: Michael Jackson - "Earthsong". I remember first time I heard this song, it made me stop and think about what we are doing to the world. A real epiphany moment. It was after hearing this song that I decided to do whatever I could to help the planet, so I now take showers instead of baths and turn my TV off properly, not leave it on standby. Mariah Carey - "Vision of love". Amazing, the way her high pitched voice sounds sends me delirious, like being spoken to by God. Elton John - "Candle in the wind". What can you say? Everyone gets erect hairs at the thought of our Queen of Hearts (Princess Di, RIP). Starship - "We built this city". Inspirational. Thiss song reminds me that money isn't everything in life. These people uilt a city on rock ad roll......so why not build a city based on love and equality and justice and peace? Magical moments listening to that song. Phil Collins - "Another day in paradise". Phil gets home to us what it's like ebing homeless so well with this song that it makes the hairs on my neck stand up as I feel like I am homeless for the duration of the song. It's like 4 and a half minutes of feeling the despair, hopelessness and worthlessness of a homeless person. Sheer genius. -
Should we be offered a referendum on the EU?
Wiltshire Saint replied to View From The Top's topic in The Lounge
Well, this is what I think: There is little point in a referendum as 1. The turn out would be pathetically low 2. People are not well enough informed to make a sensible decision. There is not a clear enough dialogue about the pro's and con's of being part of the EU. For my part, I am divided on the EU issue. There is much that the EU do that I dislike. Namely is the idea that the EU is an organisation that has been designed for the benefit of big business. The closer economic links created by the EU do not benefit the individual per se, they benefit large multi national companies. The EU protects industries in the region to the detriment of others. It is a mechanism of keeping poor countries poor by excluding them from trade and the support it gives its own farmers and indurstries give them an even greater advantage over producers in the poorer parts of the world. That is fine from a selfish point of view, but in terms of generating world equality, the EU does more harm than good. That becomes a problem because there is a link between poverty and desperation and terrorism. World citizens who suffer as a result of the actions of the developed world may become disillusioned with the whole economic system and look to change that through the limited means at their disposal. However, if we look at Britains influence and economic power I think it is obvious that this is on the decline and has been for some time. we are about to be overtaken in terms of economic and political power by the likes of India, China and Russia. There are some nations emerging that we simply cannot compete with. This is true of many other European countries. The Lisbon treaty will allow us work together much more closely and compete with these nations. A giant EU superstate may well be what is needed. Anyone suggesting that Britain withdraw from the EU has not thought through the implications of the changing world order and the implications that has for our future. Added to that, issues such as world poverty, climate change, environmental protection and so on need consensus for any meaningful action to take place and closer working relations will encourage that to happen. We are more likely to reach agreement as a "superstate" than we are individually. We are also more likely to be able to influence America and China if we stand united than if we approach such issues individually. So basically, I am unsure of what the right approach to Europe is. I feel a tradition of opposition, not from a xenophobic point of view or from any idea of Britishness, but from an equality point of view. But, in the face of a changing world I recognise that we must also change. We are not going to end globalisation, it a process well embedded in our society. We can only use it to our advantage, and that invloves strength in unity. Or not. I don't know actually. -
If F.A.R.T was an acronym what would it stand for?

+1 Fellating Animals Round Tony's (house) Is this what we're meant to be doing? Tony is my friend, by the way. -
Excellent point. Maybe Diana Ross or Bubbles could do it instead?

Indeed, an excellent point. I voted for the BNP last election because I found their stance on welfare impressive. I am dead against all the other stuff, like the racism and whatnot, but what the hell, you can't have it all can you?

This strikes me as advertising. Are we allowed to advertise our own (or friends) businesses on here? If we are then I would like to direct everyone to these people: 1. Carpentry My mate runs this business.....good rates, professional job http://www.hedgeendbuilders.co.uk/ 2.Plumbing: My brother has a business called Power Plumbing Services. A good deal and if you mention my name (Wiltshire Saint) and SWF you may get a discount (unless your name is Boj) 3. Taxi cab A friend of mine runs this firm: Imperial Cars Ltd Canute Rd, Southampton, SO14 07976 184991 Hope this is of some help to you all.

Don't listen to him. St Will hasn't got a bloody clue and it is quite churlish to suggest that Frankie Boyle steals jokes off the internet. Will has no proof of it and all he can say is that "it's quite well known". Well it isn't quite well known at all, probably because I would imagine it's not true. As you say, the fact that the man has sold out show after show and made a good living on the telly wouldn't have happened if he was merely stealing material from the internet. This is another example of ST Will trying to be controversial and/or say something interesting. Either way, it hasn't worked and he remains a deluded dullard.

I would have approached them and pointed out that the world is one and we are one. I would have said "Hey lads, come on, don't be silly now, we are all citizens of the world and there's enough love here for everyone." I would then have given them one of my cards for my website

What shows up your lack of intelligence? Is it using the word "you're" when you mean "your"?
-
You wait till St Will sees this. You're going to get it.

Advice you should heed yourself.

When me and my brother were little and getting in football we both decided to support Man Utd, as youngsters sometimes do. Our Dad, on discovering this, wasn't happy and said we should support a team closer to home. I said "ok, I'll support saints" and my brother said "well in that case, I'll support Portsmouth". At the time it was no big thing, but as we got to secondary school it started to be more of an issue and a rivalry began to develop. This rivalry got worse and worse and we eventually ended up hating each other and arguig and fighting all the time. Things became really strained at home and it made my mum and dad's life miserable and in the end it was too much for them and they divorced. I lived with my dad and my brother lived with my mum. I blamed him for the split and he blamed me and one night, after a few beers, I saw him in town. Anger got the better of my and I charged at him shouting "You skate c***" and beat him to within an inch of his life. He was hospitalised and now, years later, still cannot walk or talk properly. My dad threw me out of the house and I was homeless for a while. Now some people may say that this is a case of fan rivalry going too far, but I say no it's not and if I ever see that spazzo brother of mine again I will kill him.

He never said they were more or less the same. He said they had similarities. "The Taliban are strictly religious". As opposed to the Catholics, who are just messing about? "Islam is openly homophobic" - you criticise Muslims for this yet do not criticise the Catholics. Why's that? In fact, virtually every single word of your post is ill informed and prejudice. You cannot single out Islam whilst choosing to ignore other religions, because that would constitute discrimination. "for whoever is not against us is for us" (Mark 9-40). Does that mean anyone who is not a Christian? Are the Christians putting themselves up against everyone else? rather inflammatory. Why does the Christian church make a stand against pop stars and lyrics that it sees as obsence? Why do Christians believe that AIDS is God's punishment for being gay? And before anyone says that Christians don't believe that - extremist, conservative Christians do. Maybe they aren't what most Christians are like, but similarly, not all Muslims are raving nutters who wish to stone everyone in sight. "When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you may nations...then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy." Deuteronomy 7:1-2 Bloody nasty Christians Genesis - Jacob's sons can't stand the idea of their sister marrying someone who is uncircumcised. (34:14) Bloody intolerant Christians. Still, at least they're not stoning people to death eh? I believe that the Swiss (b*stards that they are) didn't give women the vote until 1971. How backwards are they? Bet they're full of Muslims. Anyway, I have forgotten the point I wanted to make. It was something about tolerance and not believing everything you read. It was something about recognising the good and the bad in all aspects of society and it was probably something about not being such a knob. Not that I'm calling anyone a knob, I'm not, because I don't want to be infracted. Nor do I want to be infracted for "copying and pasting" from the bible.

Here, here! Just part with the tenner you tight git, it's for a good cause. This isn't all about YOUR gratification you know. Because I would imagine that you probably cost the country a huge amount when they had to specially make you your fatty uniform. You should be paying extra for everything so that us taxpayers can get something back from you. I bet you ate more than your fair share of rations when you were in "the army".

I would put a Sensus CD on the stereo and lock myself in a room. That should do it. -
Probably too many of them posting sarcastic/pointless remarks. It's a very serious issue on the internet.

About bloody time too. Far too many perverts walking about, hanging around playgrounds, pretending to be parents. It's a sign of a strong government that they are willing to offend one or two people in order to oust the perverts and child abusers. No loony left leadership here, this is strong and decisive. The loony left PC brigade would probably set up viewing areas for the perverts, with free cake and tissues. This is the sort of thing that St George and I will see eye to eye on.

Don't be cute. -
I did a ouija board once with some housemates of mine. There were 4 of us. Me, Jonty (a fat man with bad body odour), Beth (a lovely girl from America whom I first met in South Africa - she introduced me to a witch doctor) and Klaus (a weasel faced, bald man who had ear issues). Anyway, I have vowed never to do it again after the experience. We said a little prayer before we started and then asked if there were any spirits in the room. Nothing happened for a minute or so and then the glass we were holding shot across to "YES". We looked around at each other, startled. I asked if the spirit was at peace and it zoomed across to "NO". We got worried. Beth asked if the spirit had anything it wanted to say and it spelt out "YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE". Well, needless to say we were all very shaken up and called the evening to an end. I have had nightmares about this event and the thought that all 4 of us are going to die. We don't know when, we don't know where, but the spirit world told us we were all for it. I don't need to mess with this stuff any more. There are things that the spirit world knows that should remain in the spirit world.

There used to be so many more women on the forum. Slipped Halo, yeahbaby, Jillsaint and so on. All of them gone now. Shame as I used to like imagining them naked and touching myself. All we have now is Saint Boggy. Hang on, I just need to touch myself. -
That doesn't sound very sincere. I think you're just going through the motions. The only problem I have with Lloyd James is that if he continues to play well, someone will come along and buy him and we will be worse off.
-
You're doing that thing again St Will, where you tell people what they should or should not discuss. It's very negative to talk about Lallana leaving, so we shouldn't do it! We are winning games so should only talk about good stuff like that. You end up getting into arguments about this sort of stuff, but still persist, despite the fact that there is a Lloyd James appreciation thread, which would appear to be right up your street, but you haven't posted on it. That's a it negative of you.

Who has changed the title of this thread? Which power crazed admin thinks it is ok to tamper with the personal musings of members of the forum? I think it is a disgrace and it makes me feel sick. What next? Will our posts be altered? Will our usernames be changed? Will the beauty and complexity that makes English language what it is be reduced to a series of factual bullet points for the purpose of admin power? It is this sort of thing that makes people turn to the BNP. If SWF cannot deal with the issue of thread titles properly and effectively, then maybe someone else can?
