Well Jones is a Welsh name so all should happy then

Do think Boufal/Ramirez/Gakpo/Ramos types are likely to want to come here and get verbally abused on this Forum when things go wrong
-
The squad and Southgate have been a credit to our country and should be congratulated for what they achieved It is very difficult to win a QF in the world cup If the referee is incompetent the opposition team continually foul but score two pretty spectacular goals and you miss a penalty against a really top class experienced team
-
Thats football you need the 'rub of the green' which we did not have
-
Not the first for me but in 1966 I was convinced we would win. But earlier in the year I was far from convinced I would see First Division football at the Dell but we did thanks mainly to Terry Paine and Martin Chivers with Paine being involved with the World Cup
-
I would have thought that we would have recruited a proven PL type goal scorer by now if there were any available and they wanted to come to SFC I just think we are fucked and will be relegated
-
Unsurprising really as he has no experience of the PL or a higher class of player
-
I think most football fans think Marcus Rashford played really well last night along with Stones Bellingham and Foden Certainly the three blokes doing my roof did

Why is it ridiculous for people in Canada Mexico and the USA to watch World Cup matches ?
-
Does that mean that we have a massive gap in quality [n our Goalkeeper who played 44 games for Pompey last season

What is the best goal you've ever seen live at a Saints game?
John B replied to tunit's topic in The Saints
David Burnside's goal in the FA Cup QF Replay was something special too bring the score to 3 3 after being 3 0 down with fifteen minutes to go. Terry Paine's goal at Leyton Orient in 1966 was special too giving us promotion to Div 1 Times we different then for 30 years or so we only had three managers and some truly excellent players -

Bobby Stokes 1 May 1976 Wembley Stadium The atmosphere was elecric after he scored -
Rickie Lambert was the best signing the club made in the last sixty years as he helped us get from League 1 to Premier League and helped us win a Cup at Wembley I know Keegan and that generation were great signings too but Rickie and Terry Paine before did so much in getting us to the top League
-
If we still had Danny Ings Ralph may well have been still here but Danny no doubt wanted to be else where We were at our best I thought when Ings was playing well
-
We have been a poor side in the PL for sometime since last March I think we have won 4 games out of 25 or so Not sure how this is going to change without a few new PL standard players

I feel that the mess that the club now finds itself is because the strategy of buying young players so they will thrive in the PL is far from sound and the post elsewhere regarding Small returning from Port Vale exemplifies this Also our Academy is currently unable to produce PL players. The situation feels similar to 2004 when we were on the way to relegation. In recent years the standard of other teams in the PL has increased significantly for instance Brighton and Crystal Palace overall seem to have better players and better results So without significant investment we in good quality players we are going to stuggle and eventually get relegated I am not sure SR are good owners for us as their priority does not seem to be Southampton and all the PR/Bullshit about the advantages of being in a group of other clubs has not materialise d To continue to prosper in the PL we need an owner like Markus Liebbier his death was so sad on so many levels

Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?
John B replied to Rivers's topic in The Saints
I agree with what you are saying but surely it is down to the quality of attacking players we recruit If we had Mitrovic from Fulham Toney from Brentford or Saha from Palace we would be in a far better position do you not think We once had Tadic Pelle Lallana and Mane and we did well but since then only Ings has done well Redmond Adams Lemina S Armsrong Djeneppo have had a few high spots but do not play well consistently -

I think they are contriving to get us relegated not intentionally I agree but through their transfer policy I just cannot see us getting enough points with our current attack and cannot see three teams which are worse than us -

As we are very likely to be relegated he may like Nigel Adkins get us promoted from the Championship I was sceptical of Adkins when he was appointed as I was happy with Pardew who had assembled a decent squad. I was also sceptical about Poch but thought Adkins should be replaced when we were in the PL However if we had won a couple of more games and Ralph had resigned to go to another club and we had a decent striker I would have thought employing Jones would be madness -
I would take Klopp over Jones but like Dyche I doubt he would come here I usually accept what the club do as they know more about what is going on but like most I do not think this appointment is going to save us from relegation As I have said elsewhere it makes some sense if the club has accepted relegation and wants Jones to bring us up instead of getting in a PL manager and sacking him in May Going into the Championship may not be a bad if we can keep the young players and see them develop along with some of our own youngsters I did enjoy being in the League 1 and the Championship a few years ago a winning trip to Wembley lots of other wins cheaper tickets and less crowds

I first went to a Saints game in 1962 but followed them before that and seen top class layers from Paine and Sydenham through to Lallana and VVD But this squad today has no quality players who perform consistently well and have to Wow factor Apart from KWP we have not bought a really consistent top class player for years and we are have a poor squad like we had when we got relegated with Redknapp although that squad did have a few better players than we have today
-
Getting in Nathan to try to get us up after relegation next season seems a possible scenario Not very impressed with SR at the moment what is happening to their other clubs
-
It is not depressing really just reality get a grip we have very few top class players so who ever is the manager we are going to struggle that is life expecting consistently good results is insanity
-
It is not shit it is reality in the last 20 season which we have been in the PL we have have lost season 16 19 16 17 16 16 11 14 12 15 18 15 12 17 14 18 19 18 17 18 games in some cases with better players So it would be pretty remarkable with a young experienced squad that we would not expect to lose at least 15 games No doubt that is what the club expects and if we had scored another couple of goals from a limited attack we would be where we expected to be
