With the news that the signing of VW is getting close, it got me thinking as to which players that we've signed for £1m+ fees have been worth the outlay. I came to the conclusion that typically players that cost lots typically don't pay their way, whilst economy purchases often are worth their weight in good. Examples being...... Mega bucks Delgado, Ramirez (so far), Delap, Mcloughlan,.... The juries still out on JRod £1m or less Lambert, spiderman, Moran, shaw, bridge, marsden..... This list could go on all night. So my question is. Which players that have cost a decent fee have made the grade? Best for me would be niemi.

That changes things if that's the case. Then you're into the same thing as Oxo. How much does the player want to leave and how much can the Chairman get. Oxo adjitated to leave. Did interviews etc, and he got his way. Watch this space

Until he signs on the line (for anyone) anything can happen. If what I heard was true, then Spurs thought they had him, now Chelsea do, but until he signs, who knows. If the Chelsea thing doesn't happen though, it doesn't mean that what I heard was never true, just that situations evolve until they're set in stone. Jose may come in and say he doesn't want him. Maybe he'll stay.... Maybe Real Madrid will come in and guzump Chelsea? Chelsea have a lousy record of buying kids and them never seeing the light of day again. The same of Spurs. Remember Bostock from Crystal Palace? That one did go to tribunal and Palace got about £2m and were seething (Lots in Simon Jordan's biography about that). Bostock barely got a game. If he stayed at Palace and got a game every week who knows where he'd be now. Luke ought to stay a few more years if you ask me. The good news if he does go to Chelseaa would be that they aren't adverse to lending their kids out, so we should be able to negotiate a one or two year loan back. I doubt we could keep him more than a couple of years more anyway so to have someone else pay the bulk of his wages, £15m in the bank, and the use of the player for a year or two seems perfect to me.

I think pro forms only guarantee you a fee set by a tribunal (sp?). When the player can sign a full contract at 18 then you can get a proper fee. Not sure that anyone under 18 has had a fee set by a tribunal over about £3m
-
Probably the same way we got a proper fee for Theo A lot of goodwill and integrity from the player rather than just walking out the door
-
I can see that, but I can't see us not playing him in the first team if he was better than what we already have (and having seen him twice playing for the U21's I'm not sure he is)
-
He's not yet signed his proper contract yet (July when he's 18 ) Why do people think we have a choice whether we sell or not. It doesn't matter what we want or what our ambition is...... does is?
-
That's a bit unfair when I know one of the coaching staff and he told me directly
-
£100k a week is crazy, I agree Chelsea are crazy though, so wouldn't rule it out on that alone. Can a twitterer ask him directly. Maybe we can get a straight denial. An evasion wouldn't be good
-
It's one of the coaching team, so hearsay from above. Never know whether to pass these things on or not really
-
As I said. Hope it's crap. You know cortese will get the best deal possible but if Shaw's agent (father?) said yes he'll sign a 5 year contract as long as it has a £15m buyout, then the club would have little choice and we wouldn't be any the wiser
-
Don't shoot the messenger. I have a good contact at Spurs and they expected to sign him this week but now my contact says they've lost out to Chelsea. £15m and close to £100k a week. Nearly 4 x what spurs would pay him. Don't know if there's a loan back for a year which was mooted at one point Hope it's crap but there you go

Great - a journo who doesn't know the difference between here and hear It he still YTS?

It really makes me laugh that they can't do anything without lauding it as the biggest and best version ever done by anyone. Do they realise how completely up their own a*rses they sound. The thing is, the more they build themselves up, the more spectacular the failure is.

Traffic is crazy going into Southampton. Allow extra time. Lots of it!
-
Saggy has a worse win percentage at QPR than Hughes and Warnock Excellent

stream anyone?

How can their 'huge' gate receipts allow them to outbid every other team in the bottom 2 divisions and therefore walk league2? I thought next seasons gates were providing money to pay off all the debts that they have to clear within 4 years, or can they make £8m of parachute payments stretch to cover £12m of debt??? I wonder if they could help out with my household cashflow!!?
-
Every 'will they or won't they' decision in the last 3 years has gone in their favour and they're still f*cked. I'll be well peeved if they get the -10 this season

SAINTS 1-1 West Ham // Post-Match Reaction
Winchester Red replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Trust me, if you were there you'd be glad you don't watch West Ham every week. Fat Sam teams play horrible football
