and that will achieve what exactly? Will it "get one over" on Cortese? Will it "prove Cortese wrong"? I've met plenty of people with very similar personalities to Cortese (not that I've met the bloke) and can conclusively tell you that even if we do go down and Pochettino is a complete failure Cortese will still think he made the right decision in changing the manager when he did. Blokes like that don't look back on what they may or did get wrong. I think Cortese's decision to get rid of Adkins at this time was an appalling one and I think it's one of the most farcical sackings in PL history, but I'm not going to let my hatred of the decision or any of my dislike towards Cortese get in the way of the club I have supported since I was a small boy (and believe me that was a long time ago). To say I feel incredibly sorry for NA is a big understatement but hating Cortese isn't going to bring him back. Sure the fans have got to make a big statement about what Nigel Adkins did for this club and the Everton game will be an ideal opportunity but it can't let us get in the way of supporting the club's progress this season. The best thing we can do right now is get behind the team and the manager and support them like we've supported them so far this season. If this managerial change does turn out to be footballing suicide like many (including myself) are fearing then the time to publicly protest against the chairman is after we're mathematically relegated. Nigel Adkins is my eyes will always be a club legend and I genuinely wish him all the best. I can say with confidence that the next club that hires him will be very blessed. We all owe him a great deal of gratitude and I'm sure we'll all hold him in very high regard for a very, very long time. But as much I hate to say it we've got to very grudgingly move on. If people want to stop supporting Saints as a result of this all this that is their decision, but I'm not going to let one of the darkest days in the club's recent history stop my support of 40+ years. As fans we've got to publicly express our gratitude to Nigel Adkins, but at the same time we've got to support the team and not let this undo all the progress we've made in the last few years. As for the fans that want to do nothing but hurl abuse at the chairman/new manager (even if the chairman does deserve it), then I'm afraid Fratton Park is just down the motorway. It just staggers me how many people on here have laughed for years at the moronic Pompey fans doing it on the PTT, only to want to do exactly the same thing when all of a sudden our club has become a laughing stock.

On the face of it this seems absolutely mental. There must be one hell of a good reason

Not long after I joined the force many years ago I had to guard the entrance to a house during Arctic weather. A couple of senior officers I hadn't met turned up, looked round, left the scene and as they walked up the driveway an avalanche of snow slid off the roof and absolutely covered them. The timing was just perfect, you couldn't have planned it. I don't think I've ever had to try so hard not to laugh in my life.

Get ready for Bulgarians and Romanians coming

So do about 20-25 other countries -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__4rWVJEpGo It depends what you mean by "it". Sure, Messi has rarely produced his club form for his country but he is still a massive player for them. 31 goals in 76 matches and numerous assists ain't bad. Back on topic, I think Shaw will be in the England squad in a few years and be a regular eventually. Lambo will probably get a Kevin Davies like cameo at some point, Clyne will be in contention for sure in a few years, not too sure about Morgan.

Chelsea 2 Saints 2 - Post Match Celebrations & MotM

Er tonight is very much a lesson why that's untrue. -
Well if Ba scored for them that first half was certainly sheepish

I sincerely hope not, here's an example of their lyrics I saw on a TV program last night with Marcus Brigstocke "Now she’s feeling so low since she went solo Hole in the middle of my heart like a polo" Just Back on topic I second anyone that mentioned The Hives and the Chemical Brothers

Like people who pointlessly insult people they disagree with you mean?

Proud of the development of this team and manager

Looking at my status I'm all too aware that it is

Aphex Twin in around '95/96 was completely mental Blur, Chemical Brothers, Metallica, Daft Punk and Orbital get a special mention. I was also pleasantly surprised by Rodrigo y Gabriela and Above & Beyond. I also remember a young copper I worked with thoroughly enjoying policing a Girls Aloud gig about 8 years ago. He was apparently asked by Nadine Coyle to retrieve a pair of her knickers that someone had thrown up on some scaffolding backstage.
-
Some of these I've either had to police or it was a free gig that me and mates wandered into Linkin Park were APPALLING, every song they did was some guy trying to rap being interrupted by another dude screeching out what was supposed to resemble a chorus. Apart from a few teenagers at the front they didn't get much reaction at all. Kanye West was rubbish, people said it was his style of music and my age but I saw Jay-Z years ago and thought he was quite good. I'd also second The Bluetones, the Music were pretty dire as well. I was also very disappointed by Radiohead.

No. Villa are so poor at the moment, and their defence so shambolic that if we don't win we don't deserve to stay up

A bloke who refused to work as it was 8am starts
JackFrost replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
They've talked about this before but it's never happened. I guess it's because of setting precedence and the fear that paid workers will be laid off so that unpaid jobseekers claimants can take over their roles - making the problem worse. What is needed is a massive overhaul of the benefits system and the hopelessly inept jobcentre/jobseekers 'system'. To give you one example a friend of mine had to give up working in the construction industry due to a bad back injury. He started a part-time course in accountancy out of his own volition, spent £1000 of his own money only to have his benefits stopped because the jobcentre considered the course too much of an obstruction to him finding a job, despite it being 6 hours a week. This is after they'd put him forward for more than one job based on his previous experience that involved heavy lifting I also talked to my friend's son the other week. After his previous job ended he visited a careers advisor from the NUS, who openly advised him how to manipulate the benefits system in certain areas, and to stretch the truth in certain parts of his jobcentre application that the advisor knows they wouldn't check, so he could claim benefits. When we get to that point it's clear the whole system just needs to start again. I've heard plenty of horror stories regarding the jobcentre and they seem to be ever increasing. As for the link above if that guy did turn down a job just because he started at 8am, then I think the fact the jobcentre didn't stop his benefits as a result is the biggest scandal in that story. -
I wonder if Roger will have something to say about this. . .

Heavy Handed Northern Constabulary, Any Lawyers on here?

Unfortunately I've just remembered Grampian aren't covered by the '84 Police & Criminal Evidence Act as it only applies to England & Wales. You might find this link useful, they look a bit left wing but they'll probably give you some good advice. http://www.sacc.org.uk/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=422&catid=44 -

JackFrost replied to Viking Warrior's topic in The Lounge
In most cases they'd take you somewhere fairly discreet where possible and then point out that if you are concerned about the whole thing making a scene they'll explain that they're entitled to search you regardless of your permission and you'll make far less of a scene by just letting them search you and the whole process will be over in less than a minute. Then if you continue to resist they'd usher you up to a wall and use passive restraint techniques if necessary. Any half decent copper though will be courteous, reassuring and be very clear on explaining the process so it wouldn't get to that stage. They brought that in just after I retired from the force, so the process may be slightly different to when I was in the force. The info you've stated there would have been automatically given after the search had taken place anyway, it might be given automatically before now since that ruling. Anytime anyone is stopped and searched they will be given (or details on how to obtain it) a written copy of the search record which will explain the police's grounds/legal basis for searching you. Depends on the quantity and provenance of the cigarettes -
Saints vs Chelsea Match & Reactions Thread
JackFrost replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
If Alpine's so convinced we're going down and is giving up that easily then why does he keep posting on here week after week? His posts are few and far between after we get a good result and he spouts the same ultra-negative views time and time again after a bad result, views which are frequently proven completely wrong as Chez has given one example of earlier in the thread. He then accuses Chez of being smug in hindsight, when the fact that most people on here told Alpine his viewpoint was complete crap before we got promoted is lost on him. Lighthouse is right, I really don't know why people still talk to him. -

Sorry mate, providing they have reasonable grounds the police have every right to search you or your belongings without your consent, and if you don't cooperate they are perfectly entitled to search you by force. Also since '94 the police don't even need to have reasonable grounds in certain cases. They'll only arrest you if they find something incriminating, suspect you of having committed a serious offence or you commit an offence e.g. try and assault one of the officers. Of course they aren't but I don't believe the original poster stated this happened. The rules are that a policemen can ask you to remove your coat, jacket and gloves in a public place (unless temporary search powers have been enforced) and if they want you to remove more or want to remove anything that is religiously sensitive it must be done outside of the public view. Yeah sadly there are too many coppers out there with attitudes that don't do them or anyone any favours. By the way did they give you a copy of the search record? This would confirm what they were looking for and what grounds/legal power they had for searching you. -

I'm no lawyer but I'm a retired D.I. that did 30 years in the force. Firstly there's no way they'd deploy 4 coppers to an incident where someone merely smoked in the loos so there was almost certainly something else going on, (unless the local constabulary has a ridiculously generous budget) I'm speculating here but it sounds like they spotted a known pusher/courier entering the loos shortly before you went in, and you and the other guy happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. From what you've written, I'm afraid the coppers didn't do a lot wrong in terms of procedure. There's one or two things which I can pick out, for instance they should have stated loudly and clearly they were the police when they knocked on the cubicle doors of you and the other guy, and judging from your response it seems like they didn't. When you say 'heavy handed' I'm afraid all they did was stop and search you, and it happens to thousands of people every year. It wasn't the most pleasant place for it to happen and as an innocent bystander it was an unpleasant experience, but I'm afraid sh1t happens. If you made a complaint it would be a waste of time, there'd be one or two advisories at best for very minor breaches of the procedure but there's no way they'd take any real action. I'm afraid that's completely untrue. The police are allowed to search you in any place that is open to the public. -
what's that? 10 losses in their last 13 league games?
-
If it's a straight choice between Boruc and butland on current form I'd have Boruc. We need experience in goal and I really hope Boruc will now cement the number one jersey with ease. Very poor in his first two games and no different in the first 10-15 mins against Arsenal. But fair play he looked very comfortable from then on and has the potential to be miles better than what we've had this season so far.
-
Yep, I said as soon as Redknapp took them over he'd keep them up, and I still think he will. That said I think we'll stay up as long as we maintain our current form, we are a far better side than Reading and Villa at the moment and the key in the short term will be staying above Wigan and catching the likes of Sunderland/Fulham/Newcastle if they don't improve and sell Ba/possibly Norwich I genuinely think any side from norwich downwards could potentially go down.
