  6. THE AUSTRALIAN WAY Judy Rudd an amateur genealogy researcher in southern Queensland ’s, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s great-great uncle, Remus Rudd, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Melbourne in 1889. Both Judy and Kevin Rudd share this common ancestor. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows at the Melbourne Gaol: On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Rudd horse thief, sent to Melbourne Gaol 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Melbourne-Geelong train six times. Caught by Victoria Police Force, convicted and hanged in 1889.' So Judy recently e-mailed Prime Minister Rudd for information about their great-great uncle. Remus Rudd: Believe it or not, Kevin Rudd's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research: "Remus Rudd was famous in Victoria during the mid to late 1800s . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Melbourne-Geelong Railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the Victoria Police Force. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honour when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed." NOW That’s how it's done, Folks! That's real POLITICAL SPIN.
  7. Here in NZ a cop has been let off for drunk driving because:- A senior policeman who admitted driving while nearly one and a half times over the legal alcohol limit was let off after a judge decided it was more important he stay working. Sergeant Jason Lamont, 39, was pulled over last August with a reading of 113mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The Auckland officer was charged with excess blood alcohol and pleaded guilty in the North Shore District Court in April. But Judge Phil Gittos discharged Mr Lamont without conviction, saying his role and experience outweighed the importance of the conviction. http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10651389&ref=rss
  8. Thank you for that link Hamster I have copied and pasted some of what you said and sent it to several people I know in the UK.
  9. Here in NZ it is approx 79 pence a litre for 91 unleaded and diesel is approx 52 pence per litre. However we have an extra tax called "Road User Charges" and this tax alters depending on what type of vehicle, cars are charged a lot less than trucks or buses.
  10. Anyone know when it can be bought on-line please ?
  11. A teenage US sailor who went missing while sailing solo around the world has been found safe and well, her family has said. Abby Sunderland, 16, was more than 3,220km (2,000 miles) from the coasts of both Africa and Australia when she set off distress beacons. Search vessels were on their way to her but her father said the boat had now been found with her on board. "It's huge, fantastic, exciting news," Laurence Sunderland told ABC News. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/us_and_canada/10291246.stm
  12. Perhaps that faulty part was sabotaged by an Al Quaida supporter during manufacture to cause a rift between the UK and US? :D
  13. Three Greek World Cup players had money stolen from their hotel rooms and Chinese journalists were robbed at gunpoint, Reuters reported today. Another 11 tourists were robbed of passports and luxury goods while visiting a wine farm near Cape Town, adding to several separate incidents against tourists less than 24 hours ahead of the opening match between host nation South Africa and Mexico. The incidents in the crime-plagued host country follow the armed robbery of Spanish and Portuguese journalists at a lodge north of Johannesburg the day before. http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10651202&ref=rss Well a lot of people warned about SA and they were told they were being stupid, wonder if those detractors have the guts to admit they were so so wrong? Oh yes and the NZ Herald is nothing like as right wing as the daily fail.
  14. I understood Mossad had a hand and someone whom I can't remember wondered if that young Thatcher womans govt was involved as well.
  15. :D:D He never did appear to me anyway of being the brightest of bulbs in a chandelier
  16. http://www.oneminuteastronomer.com/2010/06/08/jupiter-dinged/ The video only lasts about 3 seconds or so but is still quite impressive IMHO
  17. The Belgrano was during a war, the IRA killed hundreds of people without mercy and sanctions usually only hurt the people who are most in need never the wealthy. I forgot to say that I hated Thatcher and still remember where I was and the exact time (11.45 ) when I heard she had been kicked out.
  18. Care to have a re-think ? "Griffins has a long track record of obtaining extraordinary outcomes for creditors in insolvency situations. Recent cases have involved international investigations, asset tracing and rescuing companies on the instructions of creditors. Our staff includes former police, SFO and DTi officers, who together with our qualified insolvency staff, form a formidable and dedicated Investigation Team. Griffins is also a specialist in reviewing the work of other Licensed Insolvency Practitioners. We have recovered millions of pounds in claims against Practitioners for fraud or negligence." I wonder IF some people at PFC are worried now ?
  19. A woman skate tried to fiddle the company I work for here in NZ when she realised I was a Saints fan, some of them are nasty wherever they are in the World. Having said that though I have met a couple of decent skates over here, one young lady I meet regularly is in fact a very pleasant human being. I haven't met her boyfriend though so I don't know if he is a skate or a Kiwi.
  20. No big screens over here and it is supposedly 1 hour of highlights the day after on free to air . However with the amount of adverts on NZ TV that means about 40 minutes. During that 40 mins we will have to put up with the usual amateur chat about the matches from non experts pretending that they are experts.:( SKY TV has some games live but I can't afford the Sports channels. ESPN doesn't appear to have any games on. Ref SKY I have to pay for about 30 channels that I never watch as they are in the "package" and they claim they can't seperate them. Load of BS as they can offer indivdual channels when they want.:mad::mad:
  21. UNION chief Tony Woodley was branded "breathtakingly arrogant" for flying off on holiday as BA staff prepared for a 20th day of strikes today. The Unite boss, 62, flew to Cyprus on another airline from Manchester on Friday. A BA source said: "It's unbelievable at a time when others are having trips ruined. He's the only one who can get a settlement." Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3002172/-Union-chief-Tony-Woodley-flies-off-on-holiday-as-BA-staff-set-to-strike.html#ixzz0q9JV2tQz
  22. I saw the film "Reach for the sky" with Kenneth Moore when it first came out.
  23. If you receive an NIP in the post and admit that you were driving, the normal process is a standardised procedure of 1) paying the fine and 2) accepting the points. The matter is then dropped. But did you know that if you have 9 points on your licence and you receive an NIP, that as soon as you send it back with an admission that you were driving, you are AUTOMATICALLY summoned to appear in court? I didn't know as I am not a UK resident but one of my friends in the UK has pointed this out so I thought I would pass it on to you. .
  24. :D Perhaps they could get PS as their agent ?
