OFFICIAL: Adidas announced as new kit supplier
alpine_saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Are we going to be able to get the shirts at any reasonable sports shop now, instead of being tied to club outlets ? -
LOL. Liverpool have really got the knack of pushing the boundaries of taste at the moment.

A serious post - the club acting disgracefully.
alpine_saint replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
Yep. Always though him to a be complete sociopath, especially how he reduces everything to odds and percentages. -

There's always one. Hope this gets sorted, Turk. You should deffo engage with the club and only go to the media when you feel that avenue is exhausted. -
Saints buck trend as English U-21s playing time falls to new low
alpine_saint replied to badgerx16's topic in The Saints
This tells me, that we are responsible for most of the decent English youth development in the PL; as Jimmy says, Arsenals figures are largely inflated by Theo and Alex. -
The tough side of the job - telling someone they dont fit into your plans because they are not good enough, and need to move on. I wish them all well, for some particular reason I feel strongest about Butterfield who didnt do much wrong, imo. As for the other candidates for departure, I would have misgivings about Sharp and Chaplow until I see who is coming in; I still think they wouldnt let us down if called upon. This stuff is part of the game, and all parties know about it, but it must still be hard to take...

How many international teams have had Saints players?
alpine_saint replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Did Ronnie Ekelund get a cap for Denmark during his watch with us ? -
Indeed, I suspect not. One of the best things that NC has done since he got here is the way he handled the negotiations over AOCs sale to Arsenal; its an act which I think is massively underappreciated by our fans. He basically raised the drawbridge (for as long as we are in the top tier) from our youngsters being swooped upon by the big clubs. He squeezed Arsenal's balls dry with that transfer (it may even be the reason Wenger nowadays seems so reluctant to part with dosh for new signings) , and the other big clubs know they have to get past NC in future.

When & who will be our 1st signing ?
alpine_saint replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
Highly rated over here in Austria. -
When & who will be our 1st signing ?
alpine_saint replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
Whats your problem now, troll ? I do not see our transfer activity being wrapped up in 4 weeks consideing the level of activity that there appears to be currently. I dont consider it to be an outrageous statement. Maybe the 1st July deadline was just another pressure tactic agains Katharina Liebherr. -

Certainly seems the target of having everything tied up by July 1st was utter b*ll*cks. -
If I was able to turn back the clock, I would only consider going somewhere English-speaking. Learning a new lingo is hell as an adult. If I had to emigrate again now, I'd only go somewhere English- or German-speaking. Assuming you are not going to somewhere really Boer-ish that only speaks Afrikaans, this issue is not relevant for you. As has already been said - "When in Rome...". Emigration is not for you if you want warm beer, fish 'n chips and "Kiss me Quick" hats. You are the visitor/guest to that country, its your job to fit in and your fault if you dont. "Not knowing" is no excuse in the eyes of the locals of the bureaucracy. You are emigrating from the UK, not to it. Again, back to the lingo, if you arent going to an English-speaking country, dont expect the local government bureaucracy to make allowances, and keep in mind other countries can have quirky laws... Having said that, there is nothing wrong with the odd Red-Cross parcel of PG-Tips and Jelly Babies from a supportive family member or friend. You will have down moments, and they help to get through. Go somewhere which lies in the Astra 2D footprint if you want to catch Eastenders or Corrie without the use of an antenna set-up to rival Jodrell Bank. If the missus is a native (as in your case), it makes the upheaval and settling much easier, but be aware to the risk of overloading her or heaping everything on her shoulders.

Rodriguez, how do we rate him after a year?
alpine_saint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Big season for him coming. Has the potential to be big, and a fans favourite. Also has the potential to disappear in a puff of smoke. -
Ramirez, his first season, how good has he been?
alpine_saint replied to Barry Sanchez's topic in The Saints
Hugely disappointing. Has talent, but not up to the rigours of the English game. Did he complete a single game ? Not worth the 12m and time and effort it took to secure his services. Sell over the summer. -
Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster. Seeing as she always has a fairly low take-off weight nowadays (reading Vulcan 607 recently was an eye-opener, the first Black Buck raid was well over the maximum take-off weight for the plane), and because they are down to the last 4 serviceable 301s, I doubt very much what appears to us to be highly impressive is really straining the engines.

Agree with the OP, but the sense of injustice when a Saints player is the best English striker in the PL and doesnt get a sniff is just too overwhelming.
-
The usual list of excuses are : - Parts availability - Support of design authority (almost always BAE Systems through inheritance from the merger of the various aircraft companies. BAE Systems seldom supports these activities) - Engine availability (lack of zero-hour RR Olympus 301 engines is about to ground the Vulcan forever because she blew two to smithereens last summer, and the cost to make new ones is ASTRONOMICAL) - Nothing with re-heat (dumping raw fuel into the exhaust to boost speed) will ever get permission. Not actually an issue for a Harrier, however. - Properly documented maintenance history (private owned planes always have gaps, the Lightning crash in SA a few years ago killed the pilot, allegedly due to lack of maintenance on the ejector seat); document is called a "700"

Much as I sympathise with the sentiment and have signed, this pettition is on a hiding to nothing. The CAA have been absolutely brutal in recent history in preventing historical British military aircraft from taking to the skies again. There is NO chance of seeing a Lightning flying in the UK ever again, the chance of seeing a Buccaneer is also slim (one has been given provisional permission to fly, but with a list of conditions as long as your arm), and even the second airworthy Lancaster faces a monumental task of reaching the point of proving its airworthiness to the CAA bureaucrats. I am surprised that the Vulcan and the Sea Vixen have managed to get permission. There is something odd about our approach to preserving military history in the UK. We have spectacularly failed to save an Invincble class carrier from the scrapheap, HMS Plymouth is going to go to the breakers yard, we have very few floating museum pieces unlike the Yanks despite a much longer and more illustrious history for our navy and we refuse to let almost none of our historical aricraft fly. Its almost like we are ashamed of our history.

Looking forward to the friendly in Salzburg over the summer if thats the case.

IMO the only way to avoid second season syndrome is juidicious use of the transfer market - the right player is more important than price, meaning this could get expensive.

The FA Cup of tradition - FA Cup The FA Cup of 2013 significance in the game - 4th WTF have the FA and TV rights done to the greatest footballing occasion of the calendar ?

Stoke and Sunderland are still with us. I want my club to stand apart from that sh*t. No stripes.
-
Nope giving my opinion as to whether 30m is enough. Tough sh*t if you dont like it. 30m is enough if we get the proceeds from selling the Uruguayan Darren Anderton too.

Sorry, too many syllables ? The common lazy excuse in these parts last autumn for us not getting the quality CBs that even my Grandma could see we needed since the NPC home game against Reading was that sort of quality costs so much. Well, here we are, one year later, predicament confirmed, so I assume the excuse remains the same, so 30m will deffo not be enough accounting for strengthening in other positions too
