If only there was some sort of computer simulation where you could actually play out scenarios like this, I'd love to see how a Corbyn government would pan out (so long as I didn't have to live with the consequences). Even Jim Callaghan was closing the coal mines.

Nigel Adkins Interview (Saints YouTube channel, Monday)
Lighthouse replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
Surely they are printed several days before the match though. -
You would rather wait until some unhinged nutter, indoctrinated and trained by ISIS, traveled to the UK and blew the sh*t out of some shopping centre before we do something about it?
-
You're saying someone's case is going to be reviewed by 3 completely separate Harold Shipmans, who will then give a patient a lethal injection, kicking and screaming against their will? Who has said doctors will be paid a bonus for euthanising patients? You've just made that up. May I ask in which area of medicine you specialise, just out of interest?
-
This isn't for people who are diagnosed as terminally ill, have a few months to live and want to treasure every moment, visit the canals of Venice, go to their daughters wedding etc. This is for people so ill they are physically incapable of leaving their own bed, unconscious and in chronic pain. Their life wont be infinitely precious, quite the opposite. If you are conscious and you want to live, obviously a doctor isn't going to recommend euthanasia.
-
The thing is, it wont be a case of 'this guy is really ill, assisted suicide might be an option.' It will be more a case of 'we've exhausted every possible avenue of medical treatment. We're at a dead end now, let's refer this case to a judge'. I don't think the actual disease leading up to that decision is particularly relevant. I don't think the logistics are all that hard. You can opt into a system, same as being an organ donor. I'd be quite happy to register for a system whereby if 2 doctors and a judge are unanimous I'm not coming back, they can choose to end it.

Can you do sweet chili and maybe some jalapenos. I'm getting quite into Mexican recently. F**k me...

I can't believe so many MPs voted for dying a slow, agonising death at the tax payers expense. Apparently their medical opinion is more valid than 2 doctors and a judge, as per the proposal. I can only assume they are all scared of making such a brave decision and decided to stick with the status quo. Now they can go back to voting on tax rates for local counsillor's expenses or some other dull tripe. A small part of me hopes those who voted against end up wishing for death on some hospital bed one day. In reality I'm not that sadistic but I can't help but want people to face the consequences of what they're voting for.

An interesting way for them to 'celebrate' 911 although I thought it was well known those two were at war. I think there was even a beheading video online of ISIS murdering a bunch of Al Q prisoners. Certainly the reason ISIS isn't prominent in Afghanistan is partly due to them all being rounded up and killed... by the Taliban. What a mess.

I'll throw a curve ball in here and say Heathrow Airport.

A bit dramatic. They would have cut the fuel and fired an extinguisher into the engine which would almost certainly have put it out. The airflow would have dissipated the heat pretty quickly once the fire was out.

I don't really get why these guys are sh*gging some skanky hooker in Middlesbrough or Wolverhampton, when most of them have got a supermodel waiting for them at home. Can they really not go one night without getting their end away? I once went 12 years without sex.

I'd say it was more akin to a company making, "Aunt Margret's finest pork pies" The company has been going for over a hundred years, when it was established by the original 'Aunt Margret' who baked the pies herself. However for the last couple of decades the pies have been mass produced in a factory but retained the name 'Aunt Margret' because it was traditional, a well known global brand with a reputation for good quality. Aunt Margret's great great grand daughter still appears as a picture on the packaging but she doesn't make any pies and has no influence in the boardroom.

Been a while since we had a game. I'll start with Tooting Broadway. Tudor Court rules apply but no Piccadilly diagonals. Good luck.

Money, international relations, tourism and thousands of jobs. Apart from that, no you're right she is pointless. Besides, nobody voted that you should live in the UK. You were just born here, not elected. We should send you to Africa and vote for the people we want to live in Britain.
-
Do you have a youtube video of the Queen to back this up?
-
She is the best advert for this country Britain has ever had. Even if she just travels around the world smiling, waving and shaking hands, it seems to work so who are we to disagree.
-
She is head of state in name only. She isn't a leader, a decision maker or a politician. Ambassador would be the best way to describe her. You may not like her but she has spread British good will and diplomatic relations across the globe. No it's not fair that she was just born into this 'job' but she was and she does a heck of a lot of good for this country. Maybe not you personally but she is an important figurehead for this country. She is more well known and respected Worldwide than Cameron, Brown, Blair, Farage, Milliband, Major etc. put together.
-
That's not relevant to anything. So ISIS might say we aren't proper Christians. We aren't, what's your point?
-
WTF has Jesus got to do with this? We aren't the ones burning prisoners alive in the name of Christ. He may well have been the ultimate pacifist, if the Bible stories are to be believed but he would be an awful politician in the 21st Century. The West isn't bringing religion into this at all, so stop rambling about what it says in the Bible, it's irrelevant. Yes it should be an international collaboration to sort this mess out, nobody is arguing against that.

We do though. The Royals may reign but they don't rule. Apart from not eating swan they have no effect on your day to day life. USA and France are both republics but their politics are just as riddled with red tape, greed, ulterior motives, hidden agendas and occasional corruption as ours. The best run countries in the World, according to most surveys on quality of life: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Holland, Austria, Oz, NZ, Switzerland and Canada. That's 4 Monarchies, 3 Commonwealths and 3 republics. I agree it's probably not 2 billions, that's just a number I've seen reported. As I said, even if it's half of that...
-
Actually I do agree on your first point entirely, the Lords can f**k off. Buckingham Palace is where the Queen lives. That's the de facto British tourist attraction, if you take away the Royals, you take away the whole point of the Palace. I'm we'd still get visitors coming in but without the Royals it's just an old building and you take away the unique selling point. It would be no different to any French Chateau, German Burg etc. etc. Some media outlets would have us believe 2 billion people watched the Royal wedding. Even if it's half of that it's on par with an Olympic opening ceremony, WC final, the superbowl etc. That's the kind of global interest they bring to the UK. Get rid of the Royals and it's like saying we could go and visit St Mary's this weekend. Sure Saints aren't playing but the stadium is still there.
-
How is that any different to politicians being influence by large multinational corporations, heads of other states, trade unions, media alliances and agendas, demands for cheaper oil, gas, corporate bankers, etc. etc. etc. Do we get rid of anyone who has ever influenced a politician? No it isn't, it's exactly my point. If the Queen has the power to do something but never does, how is it a problem? She is head of state in name and symbolism only. The political leaders who actually run the country are democratically elected, so what's you're problem. They do use other income streams, hence they only cost us 50p a year. Still, why don't you go and tell the thousands of people employed by the royal family and the thousands of others who rely on the tourism it generates that they should be put out of business because you REALLY need that 50p.
-
You haven't answered my question. I have the power to go on a knife wielding killing spree, I just chooses not to use it because of the **** storm it would create if I did. Should I also be removed from society? The entire royal family costs us about 50p each per year I think. I can live with that for all the good will, international relations and tourism they bring to this country.
