I'd think it a bit strange to have players on the bench who were better than the starting XI unless they were coming back from injury or something. I thought Connoly and Guly did fine against Forest. I'm not a great fan of Barnard but we also have the new Japenese guy too and I'd've thought that would be enough cover for 20 odd games.

Who is this week's mystery signing?

Exterminate, exterminate -
I've no way of knowing one way or the other but I'd rate the chances of him leaving as zero.

From Pompey Mad The latest name to be linked with a takeover of Portsmouth Football Club is that of Joseph Cala, an entrepreneur based in Italy and the USA. The News reported today that Cala was rumoured to be the frontman for a consortium based in Abu Dhabi, but News journo Neil Allen has been in contact with him since and it seems that Joseph intends to be the sole owner as he has no backing from foreign investors. But who is Joseph Cala? Reliable information about the man is scarce, but he seems to be a slightly deluded daydreamer who has ambitions of creating an undersea resort complete with the biggest casino and spa in the world. He has past history of owning a football club. All 11 days of it. Apparently, his time at Salerno Calcio (now playing in Serie D) was cut extremely short due to a "non-compliance" arrangement, with Cala failing to pay the bills despite promising a so-called "40 million euro investment" and an ambition for Salerno to become a Serie A club once again. Doing a quick google search of his name also brought up this interesting page relating to a conviction for attempting to defraud for one Joseph Cala back in 1972.

Funny, I thought he was Polish

He's been out on loan so - I'd assume, we haven't been wasting any money on his wages. We can always farm him out again if need be.

If you're a season ticket holder and go to every away game for say 50 years what's it gonna cost including travel costs, cup runs, booze, replica shirts, taking the kids etc etc? It's not 500,000 quid but it's still a **** of a lot of money.

Given that we have reached agreement with the player and his club there is no reason for not announcing the move - it may also put a little pressure on whoever has to approve the work permit. It, of course and as you rightly say, has absolutely nothing to do with the Brighton result, and any suggestion it does is just Alpine's megalomania getting the better of him.

Looks a really weak bench, I think we need to win this one before it gets to substitution time.

Japan striker Tadanari Lee, who scored the winning goal in last year's Asian Cup final against Australia in Doha, could be joining Southampton after agreeing terms with the Championship side, according to reports in Japan. Saints must now obtain a work permit for the 26-year-old. (Nikkan Sports newspaper)

Some of what you say is fair comment. You're quite right we're lucky to have been picked up by an owner with his head screwed on and not a Spiv. I am aware that there but for the grace of God go we. However, part of the reason we we're cherry picked and you weren't is that we own our own stadium, have an exceptional academy and a broad fan base. You lot on the other hand seem still to be in denial. Every time some dodgy geezer trundles along with a truckload of used fivers he's hailed as the next Messiah and obviously not a spiv. When are you going to learn to be a bit less gulible? Who do you honestly believe could possibly regard Portsmouth football club as a good investment?

I can't be bothered to read what you've WRITTEN. -
For the First Row Sports one you just need Flash Player, I think, which you probably have anyway.

Only two away games there. I think that'll give us a chance to put one over on some of the chasing pack.
