Are we favourites now in our run of difficult games?
DuncanRG replied to andoru's topic in The Saints
I don't think anyone besides Chelsea can go to the Emirates as favourites, but I'd be very disappointed if we didn't win at least one of these games. -
Nobody here would dream of taking Rickie Lambert at the moment if he had played for any other club before joining Liverpool.
-
He hasn't had many jaw-dropping saves to make! The only goal we've conceded where I think he had a chance but would have done very well to stop it is Eriksen's at White Hart Lane. Made some big stops against West Brom and West Ham.

Even the biggest and richest clubs can struggle without key men. I think we're quite close to reaching the best depth we can hope for without being a mega bucks club that can pay enough to keep top players happy on the bench. I think the marker in that regard is having a matchday squad full of players you'd be happy to see start. We're not there yet but we'd be very close if we didn't have any injuries. We're certainly better prepared in defence than last season - I wouldn't be too worried about having Gardos or even Yoshida in the side for a few games. Forster is the only concern for me.
-
Do you really think so? I think almost everyone wants us to do well and challenge the big boys. Who wouldn't? The idea that maintaining the status quo is better for the media than a plucky underdog beating all the odds is absolute nonsense. Mentioning the likelihood of us dropping off isn't looking forward to it, it's doing their job. They'd be incredibly silly to not mention it and talk about us as genuine title challengers.

This is a really key point. Pelle is always looking to find that inch of space and get a shot away, and he'll pass if it's not there. There were times last season where Rickie Lambert was the other way round, particularly with his back to goal.

Clyne's been good but not at his very best in my view - he was outstanding whenever he played last year even through he was Pochettino's second choice. I've got no grumbles with his performances (though he's had a couple of off days) but you've always got to look at improving. Alderweireld is great back up but he's not competition, because he's unlikely to play right back unless Clyne is injured. I wouldn't be bothered if we don't bring anyone in but these are the small improvements that can be made. Edit: of course, holding on to our existing players is the most important thing - and there will be bids coming in!
-
A right back would be very handy - Clyne played out of his skin when he had Chambers to compete with last year and hasn't hit that level since. Alderweireld isn't threatening that spot as long as he's first choice centre half. That and goalkeeper are the weak points in the squad. No point paying huge fees, though, because the big improvements will come in the summer.

For those who think can/will finish higher than 8th this season
DuncanRG replied to Rasiak-9-'s topic in The Saints
In order from most likely to least: Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool, Man Utd. Any of them could stutter (already are, in fact) and while we would do very well to take full advantage and finish above them in 7th or 6th, it's absolutely possible. -
I might do if I can be sure I'm free to go to all the games - glad the option is back again.

How was this calculated? -

Let's not get carried away! -
Think Fabregas is the standout choice myself. Aguero's got a shout at this early stage too
-
They have moved on from Pulis hoofball since Hughes came in, to be fair. They're still quite tough but nothing like as aggressive as they were. Not a bad outfit
-
He'll be fine I'd also say he's well behind Raheem Sterling as prospects ago
-
I don't think I'd have included any other Saints players. No problems with the rest of it either, besides Skrtel which is a peculiar choice
-
He was not a prolific goalscorers at any of his other clubs.

It's remarkable the respect people have for lower-league football when they write women's football off for its quality.

'Arsenal defeat Everton to win cup' is factually different to 'Arsenal defeat Everton to win cup' depending on the gender of the players?
