The polarization in America at least have meant tribal identity is more important than policies. There are basically no pro life democrats or pro choice republicans left as one of many examples. I get very frustrated when an argument has been attached to a person or group rather than as separate thing to be considered on its own. wow that went along way since yesterday. I do not have any hate for a god in my heart, nothing particular bad as ever happened to me. I was never a victim of pedophile priests or in a controlling group like jehovas witnesses, nor the product of a prescriptive cultural directed by religion, nor do I identify as being someone who is part of a group that religions can have moral objections to. Instead I sat through church thinking is anyone really buying this? More boredom than anger, they had a chance to convince me they did not come up with anything compelling. I do not hate religious people, some of its proponents annoy me because of the attempt to impose one religions views on all here in the states, some of the more fringe elements with their extreme ideas I dislike, and I have a problem with a section who use it to enrich themselves (The plant a $1000 seed guy on late night advertising particularly gets me irritated). But if we cannot question an idea or be able to defend one intellectual activity ceases to be possible. We live in a world of technological achievement only possible after the straight jacket of religious control made the renascence possible, other parts of the world are still living in places where ideas can not be questioned because of an "all knowing" book that strangely seem to be used by those in power to stay there.... As for science I am a professional scientist, its not that we have proof so much as things are consistent with. If we have an idea we look at evidence and see if it consistent or not, if not we modify the idea until it is consistent with that which is observed, and subject it to continual testing to refine what is known. For people who do not believe in evolution they are living with medical advancement, achieved because of our use of the theory of evolution to explain that around us.

So we are arguing over if killing everyone with water is a moral act for a god because people misbehaved according to set of rules that only existed for the "chosen" people. The other possibility is this is made up and never happened. We do not see anything in the world consistent with the necessary water that would have to be used, so at this point the moral question should be asked of the people who wrote this rather than directed at a god. Prove to me that this book and other religious texts are not man made inventions. Because the books are more consistent with a man made fiction than an accurate account of what happened.

Ok so no one rebutted my suggestion that religion is a man made concept with human authored books. All you got was ad hominem on MLG because the way he presents himself makes you think its an easy game to play rather than bolsters your position, it suggest how little there is to back it up. Seen no positive evidence of this entity, nor any for the version put in that book, which is refuted by a number of other books equally written back in time with their own versions. If you cant explain it then it makes the position seem weak. It takes a minimum of interpretation as its written in ancient languages which have to be translated into our language plus a lot of the context around it is lost to us now through the passage of time, needing more interpretation on our part to get to the meaning, for example Hebrew of the time was written without vowels. Which is why we are not even 100% sure how the name of god was pronounced although Yahweh seems to be the best bet. So yes it needs explanation because none of the message the guy who stands up at the front on Sunday doesn't come without interpretation. If you want to read it literally you end up with idiots building giant boats where they collected together the termites and carpenter ant which eat the hell out of it. Following this discussion has put me in mind of gladiatorial combat where we are sending out people to risk their lives for our entertainment. I have to listen to people here praising trump, while also denying reality on a daily basis by 90% of the people I have to work with. This area has not had a lot of cases but it is in the area. The lockdown just means you cannot go in certain stores but walmart is still open and the DIY chains seem busy from the cars parked outside. IF you want to restart a sport the only way I could see you do it with out risk, would be to find a relatively isolated spot with enough capacity for all the participants and support with appropriate training facility and playing area. Bring everyone and everything in that is needed. Test everyone and quarantine all until such time as it is known that no one has the virus. Do not allow anyone in and out for any reason and if they leave they can not come back in. Basically a big shut in. Then after X weeks of training they would play all their games at this facility till the seasons done with all games being televised. I doubt there are many places in the UK which could hold this many people in enough comfort and with some open playing area and be secured (HMP ?). Might be easier in the US in more sparsely populated states.

I have been looking at the graphs for the US closely and only one state has had a significant drop in detected cases and that is Louisiana, which is for a unique reason that their big spread was because of Mardi Gras, If you pick a random state the number of detected cases now is higher than the day the orders of isolation began. So if we relax things now the base load of cases to start wild spread rates will be much higher than when we shut stuff down and the infection rate will just take off. We need to bring it down till it manageable by test and trace and that infrastructure is not in place and the numbers still to big to be able to handle that yet.
