When I began working in a Bank at Bournemouth in the late 1950's, the deputy Chief Cashier was a Joe Lancaster who flew Lancasters for Bomber Command. He told me once, that he was forced to ditch near Alton, Hants after coming back from a raid as the engines were on fire. As coincidence would have it, the orchard he landed in belonged to the parents of a girl who worked at the same branch.
