I am happy with being safe in the prem. I am also happy with whom ever is running the club having high expectations. What I am not happy with is all that rhetoric going out the window when handed a golden opportunity to actually win something namely the FA cup especially when we are pretty much safe in the prem and nothing else to play for. I believe that is what has caused all the negativity on here and certainly has in my case. Oh so NC was gone by then which begs the question, are all his big plans for the club now foegotten?

And they are in the 6th round of the FA cup............ losers!

Guly ??? I dont think so, so good that he has been told to leave at end of the season, oh and resting our number 1 goalkeeper, do me a favour.

How is wanting your club to be successful and put out their best side in a cup game short sighted and pathetic ffs? Do you not think that the evolution of the club would have benefited from perhaps winning the FA cup?
-
In my opinion, more often than not a football clubs success is proportionate with the amount of money thrown at it ie Man City. There was nothing wrong in NC setting the bar high and his dream, sorry aim, to be mixing it with the best and pushing for a place in Europe was admirable and you would not expect anything less from a hardened and successful business man. But lets be honest, if I opened a chain of grocery stores I would be doing it with the fact that I would have to throw mega millions at it and it would still not even dent Tesco's share. Where saints are now I am fine with, being realistic I could not hope for anything more but I do not blame NC for aiming high. The only thing that has left a sour taste in my mouth is not throwing everything at FA cup and wasting a golden opportunity to enlarge the coffers, raise saints profile and to show those who have not experienced how it feels to win the FA cup.

I think NC's dream of pushing for Europe within 5 years convinced many that it would actually happen. Unless you have an owner who is prepared to throw an absolute fortune at us it will never happen, which is why the FA cup should be taken more seriously. A cup here and there and mid table prem survival is ok with me realistically.

The real reason that we sacrificed the cups...

So finishing above Man U is more important than silverware?

How on earth is that logical when we have pretty much already acheived a mid table if not better position in the prem. It is totally logical to expect us to seriously try and win a competion that very few clubs have a chance of doing. A cup that galvanised Southampton in 1976 and turned us into a respected football club and which acted as a spring board to get us into the top league of which we stayed over 25 years. Not to mention the financial gains and the world wide attention, oh and a little sideline of playing in a European competition not to mention the better players we could entice because of all of the above. What gamble? There is no gamble only positives, positives and dreams that have now evaporated for any saints fan dreaming of us proudly holding the FA cup aloft. The above might seem over the top by many but I feel really let down by the club and feel desperately sorry for the hardcore that went up there and were served up by a weakened side, a manager (whom I normally admire) who seemingly couldn't give a toss, a playing performance as if they had just been relegated. Angry? Frigging right I am angry! -
I suppose the clappies will label the BBC as wrist slitters and bed wetters.

A golden opportunity thrown away. I am livid atm. Team choice, lacklustre display is just taking the p*ss out of the fans and tha FA cup. We are safe in the prem, there is no reason why we could not go for this all guns blazing, but we decided to go out in a whimper. Feckin disgusting.

Well I'm glad Lawrie Mac thought our pro's were fit enough to withstand the earlier rounds back in 76 to go on and win the FA cup .
