Isn't one of Brighton's other first choice stars suspended also? Liam Bridcott I think? Not saying we'll definitely win, but it certainly adds an advantage in our favour (as does Lambert's form to them)...

Didn't even last the length of an amateur fight. Way out of his depth and should retire now and be remembered for being an Olympic gold medalist rather than a poor professional boxer.

Second half Shrewsbury hardly threatened and it was all Saints, but they just had no end product and were choosing the complicated pass when a simple one would do far too often. Aside from a five minute spell during that period, I got the feeling that Shrewsbury had one eye on the replay and a possible TV pot of cash, but they were denied by the superb move that led to the opener. You can understand people leaving in injury time, but not five minutes from the end. Perhaps this result will stop that, for the next game at least... I still think the central midfield needs a box-to-box attacking midfielder, Ryan Harley at Exeter would fit the bill perfectly.

Chaplow will probably play if he has no future at Preston and he's still here on Saturday. I think it'll be a Fonte/Jaidi combo at the back, with the former wearing the captain's armband.
-
If Bignall does not get permission to play, a possible debut could be on the cards for Doble, or NA may revert back to a Lambert/Guly combo IMO.... I don't think you're far off though - could be that all the subs from Tuesday may start on Saturday...

Looks like it will be on Saturday 6th.... http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompetitions/TheFACup/Fixtures

Schneiderlin seems to be the best option IMO. Puncheon's are a bit hit and miss, by that I mean whether they curl out before they come back into play!
-
From where I was sat in Block 10, Guly was definitely impeded. The players presumably didn't bother to protest as they thought it was a waste of time.

Another shocking performance at St Marys, joining his effort against Blackburn in the Prem in Sturrock's last game... Has he been involved with Saints between those times, if so, was he as bad then as he was today? Got a great view of the challenge on Guly in the 2nd half, a clear spot kick, yet both D'Urso and the linesman were well behind the play..... Any other thoughts to share? mods please merge with other thread please!

Saints were superb, Guly ran the show and it's always good to see Lallana and Puncheon swap positions throughout the game, thus never allowing their defenders to relax and get used to their runs and movement. It should be the same starting XI next week, but would suspect Morgan may come back in instead of Chaplow. Well done to the referee today as well, whomever he was? If indeed there was one out there?

The 'argument' in the former took place just after the first pen - and as far as we could see (everyone behind was also interested!) there were one or two home supporters involved. A rather young looking steward then took charge.....
-
Did this 'argument' take place behind the Itchen South? Seemed to go on for a few minutes if so....

Sam Williams, Gavin Williams and Andy Williams!
-
I watched Yeovil on Saturday and they lost 3-1. They played a 4-(1)-4-(1)-1 formation - the brackets indicate their playmaker Gavin Willams who has licence to roam and get the ball and run with it. As was the case last year, most of their forward play came either down the left hand side or through Williams. Other danger players are Smith (LB) and Welsh (ML). Their lone striker on Saturday Dean Bowditch looked lively, as did the second striker, targetman Sam Williams (who scored) when he came on as sub. Tuesday may see the team switch to 4-4-2, but it would appear Yeovil's captain and right back may be injured at present. He certainly didn't play on Saturday, which meant Adam Virgo played there and he looked very shaky - if Puncheon gets at him, he'll have a lot of joy. Two words of caution - Andy Williams. Remember Bristol Rovers at home last season..........

I went to the Yeovil Exeter game yesterday, and upon buying our seats we were told that sales for the Saints game 'was slow'. With Yeovil's form taking a nosedive, it may appear to be a much smaller home attendance than last year...

Does anyone know what times the travel club coaches will leave St Marys?

Seats are not available to buy online as they are limited to Seniors, families and ambulant disabled...

Would like Gary Johnson myself, but as he's just signed for Peterboro... What's Tony Mowbury doing these days? I have a strange feeling that Southampton will announce a signing tomorrow (probably on loan), which would indicate something has already been set in place for a new broom.

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread

I'm sure I came across Nicholas Bignall on that givemefootball site last month, which if true would indicate he is surplus to requirements at Reading? Ryan Harley rumour may have legs, and I'm sure Saints have shown an interest in Matt Phillips. On the subject of midfielders and I know it's only Wiki, it suggests Harlee Dean (trialist from last month) is on loan at Grays from Southampton? Have I missed something? He is no longer listed on Dag & Red's site as their player, so if he's not here I guess he's unattached now? -
Dag&Red and Exeter have postponed their game.

Oldham's Tom Eaves has just signed for Bolton for £200,000 according to SSN... however, he may be ripe for a loan deal following the League Cup game? -
Exeter and Dag&Red are still deciding whether their game should go ahead - decision to be made later today. Personally, I think they should call it off, allowing Exeter to play their next game, like Saints, at home.
