Forte is not adept at playing the lone frontman role - had Lambert been up top with him he may have been a different story last night. Ryan Dickson I think is playing with a slight fear over his status within the group. If you look up in the stands you have both Fox and Harding above him in the pecking order. Look further forward on the pitch last night you had Ben Reeves, and on the bench Luke Shaw - all champing at the bit to take his spot in the squad. I think he'd still benefit (as would Reeves) with a loan move to L1 to boost his confidence and open up possible permenant moves away if he then decides he wants it.

Was brilliant to watch! The wicketkeeping slot in the England 1-day arena is suddenly very competitive - with Kieswetter suddenly having Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Steven Davies and even Prior breathing down his neck. I think Bairstow will be in the side for the two Twenty20 games next week for sure.

He doesn't get much protection to be honest, with Guly having a roaming role in front of him. A solid if unspectacular start to the season overall IMHO.

Definitely need another centre back, but I also think NA will prefer to buy in another Striker rather than rely on the loan window to bring in another body in due course. It would appear to be more beneficial to get someone in that can 'learn' to slot straight into the team, and gradually become an automatic first XI pick rather than just serve as short-term cover, with no guarentee of a permanent deal. That being said, Jay Rod and possibly Lukas Jutkiewicz at Coventry would be ideal - Maynard I think would only come if he was assured of first team football straight away given his age.

They are, but the 24th/25th is the next possible date for the 1st round game to be rearranged. Next week there is a full Football League programme of fixtures. Looks like it could take place during w/c 12th September, between the Forest and Birmingham home games.

Bristol City/Swindon will play each other on the 24th/25th August, therefore, god knows when the Saints match will be!

Hopefully Saints will assign the squad number '19' to Fox, that way leaves 11 free for a striker. If he's given 5, Dickson must be on the edge.

I did notice that most of the Championship game reports in the Sun on Monday had screen grabs of the BBC highlights as their feature images. The blurred still of Lallana's left foot shot was a particular highlight... Brighton's game seemed to get decent coverage tho' (understandable given its debut).
