JRod wasn't so convincing initially. He used to flap at shots and was nowhere near the finished article. He improved. We have to hope that Long can too. I think the main problem is his price. If we had paid £6m for him I don't think anyone would be complaining.

Blatter certainly has a brass neck. Anyone with a shred of decency would have resigned by now.

Bournemouth have signed another, slightly younger keeper. Looks like Artur will have some competition for his place!

They still vet the businesses that are allowed to operate at the farm. The Guardian gets in every year and people like Oxfam. When I worked for The Guardian we were allowed to sell the other papers but he would let any others in with their own pitches.

As Hugh Hefner was mentioned would anyone really want to be him? Prancing around in PJs, dressing gown and pipe he looks like a total ***t. And if he thinks that the women sleep with him because they fancy him his is delusional. -

You probably know that nicotine is one of the fastest acting drugs on the central nervous system. People get addicted pretty quickly. I wouldn't say that is a great choice. -
I am sorry Sarnia but you really don't get it. There isnt one person here who doesn't think there are things wrong in the UK and there a plenty of threads about that stuff. The crazy level of butchery by guns is not sensationalising the situation. If you cant see that there is something fundamentally wrong with blowing away unarmed people then something isn't right. There is a legal system which it seems many of your officers cant be bothered with. I know which country I would rather be in if I have a run in with the police. Nothing to do with moral highground but plenty to do with not releasing quasi paramilitary's on the streets to shoot people without an arrest, a trial and a verdict.

I agree. I also don't think it is a decent way to make a living. There is a train of thought that says that a little alcohol now and again isn't bad for you. I've never heard anyone say that about a cigarette. The body can metabolize alcohol, it cant metabolize the toxins in tobacco. You may not do yourself any major damage smoking a couple of fags a week, but you certainly are not doing your body any good. -

Amazed to see how many points Pelle and Forster have got so far given the grief they have both been given here this season! Also, we finished 7th. A best points haul granted but I think the points for each player a high given that we didn't have consistency.

Bit different. Rope has many purposes and I doubt that many people go to B & Q with an express desire to buy rope to hang themselves. For example, I have just bought some sash cord but will use it to tie up my canoe, not wrap around my neck. I think it is fair to say that the tobacco industry kills and maims millions of people each year. Not many other uses for tobacco other than to do yourself harm. -
If those penalties had been given against us (and we were lucky on several occasions) we could have finished lower. Its all ifs and buts that the point of the league is consistency. Chelsea were the most consistent team so won the league. The rest of us ended up where we are because of what we achieved over the whole season. Every club will have its tales of woe. How rubbish have ManU been this season but fair play to them, they have made it to the CL. As you said yourself, after having had the guts ripped out of the club last summer this season has been a revelation. We should be very proud of all at the club for what they have achieved.

Winning our last home game 6-1 wasn't too shabby was it? Ok, we didn't maintain our best form all season but then we don't have the money to get that kind of squad in depth that you need at this level. It has been a wonderful season and from here lets hope we build for next season and do even better. We have a top manager, the makings of a decent squad. Plenty to be optimistic about.

Top man. Congrats Kelvin. I hope the club find a role for you.

Why do you have to find a way out all the time? Why cant you just accept that this behaviour is not acceptable to any decent minded folk?

Nice way to make your money - bringing death to millions. -
Indeed. I don't understand why players roll around on the floor nowadays. Back in the 60s and 70s you can understand it but mostly they got up brushed themselves down and tried to get their own back when they could. Players like Best did get kicked to pieces but he could mix it too when he wanted too. I have no doubt that the quality players of that era would be quality players today with the coaching and dietary help the players get nowadays. Just go back and look at the Brazilian side of the 1970 World Cup. The Dutch team, the Italians from that era. Even England were quality in the 70s. All that on several pints a day - just imagine what they could do now!

Do you have to have a big army to be a voice in this world? For some time now we have not been a "global power" in terms of firepower. Britain still holds a place in the world as a mover and shaker because of trade. It is the economy which makes the world go round not the number of missiles you have that you will never use. I am no fan of the current PM but no doubt he will make speeches on global issues in the future as he has in the past. I think most people are more worried about the state of the hospitals in this country than they are about armed forces. Should the need arise there are ways to boost the number of fighting men. Seriously, does anyone think that there is a threat of invasion? The threats we have now are terrorists who move in the shadows and who you cant fight with nuclear warheads or armies. -
The game is certainly quicker now and in the good old days you could kill time and see a game out in the last 20 minutes - now so many goals are scored in time added. When I played you were told to pass to players in space. Now it doesn't matter how many players you have around you you are expected to receive the ball and do something with it. I am sure players from the old Div 1 could have adapted to the game nowdays. There still hasn't been an English defender better than Bobby More since the 60s in my opinion.

I meet Jim after a game once at a "do" arranged by a forum I was on at the time. He talked about the error he made and how that keeps coming up and seemed unhappy that he was remembered for that rather than any of the games when he played well. He talked about his transfer to Saints and that he was just told one day that he had been sold to us and to pack up his stuff and get to Southampton. He also talked about how they had to play through injuries and how so many players from that era are near cripples now. He struck me as a really decent guy and loved to talk football.
