A modicum of truth in that. If you are an oppressed majority you will turn to those who you think will help you, just as the Germans turned to Hitler after the Allies humiliated them after WW1. As for the USA, they never liked the Empire. They shafted Churchill over lend/lease when they forced him to give up many exclusive trade agreements with the colonies.

Good post. One thing's for sure, whoever gets the job will be collecting their P45 if we don't get promoted so we should only offer a 1 year rolling contract.

I think you'll find that the de-colonization of Africa was started by MacMillan in the early '60s (Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda). Don't recall him being a communist. He recognized that the days of Empire were long gone and had neither the will nor the resources to maintain a presence where we were not wanted.

Cats hate water. A good squirt from a hose or a complete drenching from a bucket will discourage them.

Oops they did it again - Match Fixing in 4th Test
ecuk268 replied to dubai_phil's topic in General Sports
Nothing new is it? Hansie Cronje was banned for match fixing and even Alex Stewart was implicated but nothing was proven. Probably goes on more than we realise. -
Or you could say that it's been the root cause of many of today's problems. Turfing the Arabs out of Palestine where they've lived for hundreds of years. Exploiting African countries for their raw materials. Dividing up Africa with the other colonial powers, paying no attention to ancient tribal boundaries and therefore the cause of many of todays wars. Ian Smith's Rhodesia was a bastion of democracy as long as you were white. Unlike Ian Smith, De Clerk in South Africa saw the writing on the wall and began dismantling apartheid. South Africa has still got many problems but by including the white population and, as the World Cup demonstrated, they're getting there.

Isn't Imran Tahir back next year as well?

So did I, Trader. Where did you live?

I see that the Tories are offering "access" to Ministers for £1000 a time. Nothing really changes, does it?

Don't blame him. he only believes what the Express tells him to.

Agreed. Drop him and/or Cook and get Michael Carberry in there.

January '94. Been on a course at Hewlett-Packard, Bracknell. Driving back down the A33, put Solent on the radio and heard that Branfoot had resigned. Such joy!!

Not always. As a previous poster said, the standard of private schools vary as much as state schools. I went to a state grammar school, my wife went to a private convent school. Their facilities were awful, very little provision for science, no gym, even some text books had to be shared. My school had 4 science labs, gym, swimming pool, comprehensive library and even some rudimentary computers (this was the mid 60's). We also had an ex-England rugby coach and had visits from the Royal Shakespeare Company, which all added up to a pretty good rounded education.

Not exactly. My parents were working class and I passed the 11+ and went to grammar school. Some of my not-very-bright contemporaries at junior school went to Greggs because their parents didn't want them mixing with those common children at secondary school. How bright they were had nothing to do with it.

But would you play Lumb? Coming back to form but didn't really contribute towards getting to finals day, so someone would have to give way.

Went with a mate who bought a 3.8 Jag S-Type previously owned by the landlord of a Shirley pub. Lovely motor, luxury motoring at a bargain price. If you knew a bit about cars, there were some good buys to be had.

No, it's down to Sky Sports. Thay can't show 3.00pm kickoffs, so it's either late morning or early evening.

Have a look here, lots of reviews and stuff. They're also very helpful if you phone them up. http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk

I'm on Virgin. Been using Linksys for years. Made by Cisco and no problems.

Tony Adams. Despite his "donkey" image, he comes across as an intelligent, thoughtful bloke. Doesn't try to blame anyone else for his booze problems, he faced up to them and accepts that he can't touch alcohol any more.

Make sure that you check the cartridge capacity. We've got about 150 HP printers and decided to try a few Canon IP4600's. Nice-looking printer but slow and the colour cartridges are very small and only last a very short time.

Had no problem with an indoor aerial, but we can see the transmitter on the IOW on a clear day.

I've got an ntlworld.com address but it no longer works with Thunderbird using POP3 even after changing the settings as specified on the website. However, it's OK accessing it from a browser, so I use that.

Sodium Chlorate (weedkiller) and sugar. This is not to be recommended. It can be rather unstable. When I was a nipper, a mate lost the end of 2 fingers when it went off unexpectedly.
