  1. When you look at some of the tabloid coverage, they may have a point. Surely the biggest achievement of this tournament is a country with a population of 4 million getting to a World Cup final.
  2. I managed to get both although only wanted the Saturday game. So if any non season-ticket holder wants a free Celta Vigo ticket in the Chapel, PM me.
  3. Don't those meddling EU pen-pushers realise that we Brits enjoy being ripped off. Stiff upper lip and Dunkirk spirit and all that cobblers. http://newsthump.com/2018/07/02/loathsome-eu-bastards-insist-on-giving-british-holidaymakers-even-more-protection/
  4. So where did that come from? Is it another USA import? So I find it really annoying and think that they should all be shot
  5. A "prism camp"? Is that where the inmates finally see the light? I'll get me coat.....
  6. No luck with his job application...... http://newsthump.com/2018/06/07/tommy-robinson-told-hes-too-left-wing-to-become-daily-mail-editor/
  7. And it's much better to have unsafe standing like the Northam and parts of every other Premiership ground. A fair amount of people want to stand so why not make sure that it's safe to do so rather than turning a blind eye as at present.
  8. On a similar vein, I've just finished "Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar" by Simon Sebag Montefiore. It's basically the story of Stalin's life and of those around him. Quite a complex character both ruthless and sentimental. Like Hitler, he was often very kind to domestic servants and junior staff but quite unforgiving to his fellow politicians and senior military officers. Very readable if you like your history.
  9. More or less what the Echo says..... http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/16237784.Saints_hope_to_announce_Hughes_early_this_week/
  10. Replacement announced: http://newsthump.com/2018/04/30/amber-rudd-named-as-new-arsenal-manager/
  11. She probably thought that those were the qualities that you needed to be an MP.
  12. Interesting article regarding unconscious bias in referees: https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-vs-roma-home-advantage-referee-bias/

I was up on Level 5 level with the 18-yard box and it seemed quite full. It wasn't until I got home and watched a bit on the TV that I saw the vast empty spaces higher up. Yes' it's been a crap season but I'm surprised that more people didn't take the chance to see Saints play at Wembley. It might not happen again for a while.
  14. Well put. Both my dad and my brother would have been there if they hadn't succumbed to the Big C (in my dad's case, many years ago but my brother only a couple). Although we all get so worked up about it , it doesn't really matter when compared to real life. Make the most of your time and enjoy the day.
  15. Lost his dad at 18. Bayern seemed to do a lot to help him. https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/pierre-emile-hojbjerg-guardiola-bayern-munich/
  16. I think that Putin would make a quite good manager. I'm sure that he'd motivate the team.
  17. Exactly. May said that it was the pictures of the children that convinced her to go ahead. But she was quite happy to refuse to take in 3000 Syrian children when local authorities had plans to accept them and the Commons had approved it. Probably didn't want to upset the Daily Mail.

  19. Interesting to contrast the current reaction to the gassing to events in the 80s during the Iran-Iraq war. Saddam Hussein gassed hundreds of Iranians with hardly a mention in the western media. When Robert Fisk of The Times reported on visiting the area and seeing the aftermath of the gassing, the Foreign Office contacted the editor of The Times complaining that Fisk was being "unhelpful". Of course, we were were supporting Saddam at the time so the gassing was being done by the good guys which made everything OK.
  20. It's not being broadcast in isolation. There will be analysis and I'm sure, criticism. It was a significant event so it's right that those who weren't around at the time get the chance to hear it and judge for themselves.
  21. Entertaining times but I there was less of a gap between the "big" sides and the rest. Now you can predict the top 5 or 6 clubs each year because they can outspend everyone else. Back then you had clubs like Ipswich, Derby, Saints, Notts Forest all pushing for the top. Apart from the fluke that was Leicester, I can't see that happening again.
  22. As you're so certain, I assume you'll be down at Ladbrokes putting all of your life savings on.
  23. Agree with every word. It teaches them that you can't always win and, when you lose, you pick yourself up and have another go. Nothing lasts forever and better times will come eventually and, when they do, you appreciate them more if you've been through the bad ones.
  24. It depends how you use social media. If you use Facebook on a smartphone the data they collect includes tracking where you are, what applications you have installed, when you use them, what you use them for, access to your webcam and microphone at any time, your contacts, your emails, your calendar, your call history, the messages you send and receive, the files you download, the games you play, your photos and videos, your music, your search history, your browsing history, even what radio stations you listen to. Google are even worse.
  25. Which raises a few suspicions. Another defector was quoted as saying that when the Russians want traitors dead they are usually very efficient. Maybe it was a rogue element working without official approval. Another thing that amused me was the sight of men in big hazmat suits with breathing sets working in the centre of Salisbury with shoppers walking past about 20 yards away.
