We also have a terrible record when it comes to big money deals, the list of people who were are record transfers makes pretty grim reading! I'm disapointed we weren't in for Ings or couldn't compete on wages with West Ham as he is proven quality, but as you point out any transfer move is a gamble and price is no indication of quality/success big money flops litter the league!
-
Ings is a still decent and will probably still be more clinical than che long after he has retired! Yes he isn’t the future and may not be quiet the player that left but as shown in the stats he would certainly improve the team. Would be so nice to have a striker who you think will actually score when the chance comes!
-
Such a frustrating player! Somewhere in there is a top draw player sadly it seems trapped most of the time!
-
I see no problem with giving him a new contract he is a decent squad player, shouldn’t be starting every week but definitely worth keeping around we will never have a squad full of Mane’s and we need some consistent decent experienced pro’s around!
-
No point watching it now you've spoiled the match 🤣 although a Mahrez header is a collectors item!
-
Depends on the game for me, if by some miracle we are winning he doesn't get near the pitch as no manager is going to risk someone who isn't up to speed, if we are getting stuffed he doesn't need to be exposed to us at our worst but if we are a goal down with 10 minutes to go he might just be worth a gamble
-
The manager seems to prefer Lyanco at right back!
-
We’ve probably signed more good than bad from Scotland! Wanyama, van dijk, davis, armstrong have all been good signings for us!
-
Simplify that wrong manager, buck stops with him for this omni shambles yes we aren’t world beaters but he has successfully made us much much worse than we were under Ralph. We look like a pub team playing the European champions!
-
Totally agree how any manager can think lyanco is a premiership starter and Armstrong isn’t I will never know. Armstrong always looks like our most creative midfielder it baffles me that he has spent so long on the bench this season!
-
Surely he has got be getting the call in the morning? The board can’t go on with this the man is like you say out of his depth and drowning fast.
-
Doesn't play at the back but otherwise obviously a hugely well thought out comparison! Lets be honest though left back is the least of our worries we need someone who takes his chances better than any of the current strikers and if Jones is staying then he needs to be a 6ft2 tank!
-
And his entire managerial CV he is a crap manager who had some success in the lower leagues playing hoof ball with Luton he has already found his level and we have now promoted him well above it. Anyone who picks Lyanco ahead of the two other centre halves in the match day squad knows nothing about football!
-
So as predicted Jones has us playing hoof ball with a striker who is about of much of an aerial threat as an old lady in a wheel chair. Everyone said his style didn’t suit the club/squad and he would be massively out of his depth and low and behold it comes true. Cheap badly planned option yet again from saints and we must be odds on for the drop now!
-
Agree with this, the thing we haven’t done is replace Ings we always look a better team when we have a proper goal scorer it’s been the case since promotion and when we haven’t had a top draw forward we look a bit pants!

Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?

Big personality, have you seen the man interviewed? -

I'd say no, he lacks experience and his teams don't play a style of football that is going to get results in the Premier League he reminds me of Billy Davies. Watching his mannerisms in interviews concerns me as well he doesn't exactly exude calm confidence! If he gets the job I will support him like I did back when Sturrock and Wigley got the job but I really think we could do better. -
Sadly he’s not coming here!

Still trying to work out what happens if the player says no or has he also agreed a contract with city to go back! -
The flag wasn’t flown at half mast because the Royal Standard never is and the queen was in residence, you will note that today the royal standard was at full height when Charles arrived. The queen had to leave Buckingham palace so they could take down the royal standard and replace it with the union flag at half mast. It was simple traditional protocol and no intended slight the British people are just dumb at times.

The perfect example in this category for me, Redmond is a decent footballer who has and continues to do a job for us. Every now and then he has a good spell or a bad spell and is never going to move up the football pyramid but is probably too good to for the tier below. I think a lot of fans these days seem to forget that as a club we need some average players. Those that stay around and give us consistency as a team over a number of years like the Benali’s and Telfers of days gone by! Not convinced by those including Jason Dodd as an average player give him a yard more pace and take Gary Neville out of the picture and he would have had England caps!
-
I’ve always wondered what happens if the player doesn’t want to go to the club with the buy back clause? You can’t force Someone to sign a contract or is that all agreed upfront with the player as well As the clubs?

I think it’s pretty clear already we got a steal on this one, he looks good enough that I can see city actually using the buy back clause! -
The World Cup this year changes things the league shuts down in a couple of months and then the window is open again so we will have another opportunity to bring in cover. all in this has been a great window for us, lots of talent in and no significant departures. The likes of redmond and Walcott were never leaving so no disappointment for me there. A decent forward as cover/competition for che would have been the icing on the cake but they are never easy to get.

He’s an FC not an SC (filling in for MLG)
