Afc southampton?

Far better just to let it die than linger on, the AFC or whatever would have no real connection with the 124 year history, so my vote would be for the club to just dissolve and be remembered for what it was and not be a shadow.

Let the name Southampton be remembered for Bates, Le Tiss, Channon, Osgood, Ball, Stokes, Holmes, Paine rather than a team pretending playing at the local recreation ground.

If an alternative club did come about then how about calling it 'Southampton Saints'.

Way better than AFC Southampton, Southampton Utd, Southampton City etc. Who wants to shout 'come on City'? You'd still be able to shout 'come on Saints'. Perfect!

Anyway - long way to go yet before this would even get close to happening.

Dunno why but I predict Southampton FC to still be alive and well-ish come the start of the season...

cos southampton saints is what we used to call the women's team isn't it? i dont think i could get over that. Could we not just call it Southampton FC again? I'm seriously worried that we might need to get going on a plan asap cos people would lose interest if this was delayed for a season if we miss this coming season's entry. Can someone please explain to me the different circumstances in which we could end up in the Blue Square or completely disappear??

I say Southhampton 2009 FC. If it went ala AFC wimbledon then we would need to start in The Rymans Division one.

Essesntailly that is League 8. (with premier league being 1). Pheonix from the flames stuff IMO. It would be great if we could take 5000 to Godalming FC away first game of the season. What logistical nightmare we could create for wanckers that run this game.

Shudders down the spine at the thought..

They are washing cars and appealing for old mobiles and ink cartridges to raise cash !! Why didn't we think of that?

If we go bust, we will 'only' drop to the Blue Square... I imagine they are well in the loop and have already pencilled in Southampton for next season.

If we go bust then I fully accept the Blue Square to do anything possible to accomodate us in their league... it would certainly add alot more prestige to the division and commercially they would be stupid not to.

Sadly I agree, if the Club is punished further or disappear, any revival (in spirit or otherwise) would not be the club I grew up with. I would have no affinity with it, as I do now with the current club. As an exile it just wouldn't be my club anymore and sadly for me the last remaining link with the city of my birth will have disappeared.

Stu, sadly I think you are deluded. The BSP will not have us this season, it is too late (unless possibly we replace Farsley Celtic in the BS Northern)

It might be too late if we were approaching them for the first time now... but a contingency plan has probably/possibly already been drawn up.

Maybe this is another reason for the Friday deadline? Maybe it's not all about the money and there is a deadline from the BSP?

All hypothetical and speculation... but the Chairman of the BSP has already said that they would have no objections to Southampton playing in the BSP?

We wouldn't be in the Isthmian (Rymans) League Div One as that's a London area League. We'd be in the Wessex League, or possibly the British Gas (Southern League) South and West Division. Which is step 4 of non-League - but an exception might be possible - if a LOT annoying to existing non-League teams.

Maybe someone should start talking to AFC Wimbledon and Man Utd AFC to see how they set up their clubs?

You mean FC United of Manchester ?

Actually I think my boss (works in Eastleigh) is part of AFC Wimbledon's committee structure. But to be honest, if we can't work it out for ourselves...

No, it is much much too late. At least for 2009/10 season.

Sorry but I really do feel that it is all over bar the shouting.

I've been saying we're too late for non-League for about 6 weeks, becasue we have been - most of the structures were finalised in May, even including all of the teams dropping out, going bankrupt etc.

It's also the reason why "Blue Square Fixtures published" is on the Calendar sticky - and those fixtures are out tomorrow (it allows them to work around the League fixtures for the matches where policing is required and to avoid big matches).

A new club would not start in Step 4 (Isthmian/Ryman Div 1, Wessex, British Gas etc)

AFC Wimbledon started in the Combined Counties League (Step 5). At the end of the day, it's up to which league will accept you and as all the fixtures for Step 4 upwards are pretty much finished, it's unlikely they'll fancy redoing that this summer.

As for Godawful Town, you think THAT's bad? Try supporting a club in the Combined Counties...

And of course all this assumes that someone is willing to set up a completely new football club from scratch in under two weeks. Not going to happen this year, sorry.

To be fair they've reorganised non-League since AFC Wimbledon started, so its not really a fair comparison - Newport (County) AFC also re-started in the Hellenic League in 1989/90, step 5, but have only needed 2 promotions to get to step 2 for similar reasons.

The one thing in our favour is that non-League clubs LOVE teams with big away followings, even if they do tend to mean a few admin headaches.

Enquiries have already been made with regards to a fledgling club, but we can't do anything until we know the outcome of SFC.

Unfortunatly this does mean we will more than likely have 0 time in which to get a club up and running for next season.
