The Beer at St Marys

Now this might seem a minor gripe to most but I think it's a problem that really needs to be addressed by the new regime. The beer I got served at half time in the Northam yesterday was virtually undrinkable, I kid you not. It was possibly one of the worst pints I have ever tasted in my life and I had to wonder whether it had been sat in the barrel since last season!

Now I know the beer is never great at SMS but this really took the ****! I saw (and heard) so many people moaning about it and people were chucking half drunk pints away as it was so nasty.

Surely it doesn't take that much to store and pour a decent pint of lager!

Yes it is a gripe beer in general at sporting events is poor. More so at football as they don't want people to love it and get wastes/even more wasted at a game. You probably won't agree but there you go

Yes I agree went to Lords for the test match beer £3.70 a pint and not that good either.

Twickenham used to have awful beer too but I havent been there for years.

But you usually do not get a bad drop of Guinness so I usually drink that if available

A stone cold hot dog and a pint of bat's pee. I trust the Corporates get better. Time to write to Markus who will be aware how they do things differently at German football matches. Nevertheless, very happy to be there yesterday.

Went to Twickenham last year and it wasn't THAT bad. Had good cider from what I can remember.

Anyone who drinks lager deserves what they get........IMHO of course :-)

I agree, and it's not that difficult to get it right. If they can't serve proper draft beer, just serve bottled beer. I know that they would have to pour it out for us because the glass wouldn't be allowed on the concourse, but there should be a choice of something drinkable. Even the choice of beer in the King Alfred is not as good as it used to be - the London Pride used to be excellent but seems to have disappeared during recent visits.

The food is also inedible - they obviously think that football supporters will eat any old rubbish as long as its unhealthy and got ketchup on it.

Sounds like we need a beer poll. I am more likely to buy a second pint if I liked the first. In fact I will go so far as to say decent beer, more sales, more revenue, bigger transfer kitty, better players, more wins, champions league. It couldn't be simpler - just give us decent beer and the rest will sort itself out

Nothing to do with drinking pints but took my wife to the game yesterday ( don't worry its not something i usually do) anyway she fancied a cheese burger at half time, i chucked mine on the floor & she spent 15 minutes in the toilet being sick!

Well i suppose the good thing is she wont hurry to come back

It seems like everyone agrees that the catering is very poor. The burgers and hot dogs from the burgervans outside are superior even. This must surely be unacceptable for our new quality conscious owner. I imagine if that he tasted one pint from the concourse he would throw the caterers out like somebody did the moneylenders out of the temple.

It also doesn't make financial sense since more pints are drunk in the pubs in the neighbourhood and more food from the vans than from inside the stadium.

It hasn't been the most important issue so far, but it might be a good idea to let the club know what the feelings are.

I just dont understand why they shut the bottle bar in the Kingsland/Northam corner.

There are loads of people who do not want to go down and join the beer queues with 10 minutes to go before half time. There were a large number yesterday that just gave up and went back upstairs which is a big waste of revenue.

There are a number of good breweries in Hampshire who would happily bring along a few good barrels of fresh, decent beer and sell them until it was all gone. It is the corporate ties with the beer companies that we are fobbed off with appalling fizzy keg beer. Even so, the catering companies in charge of the current inferior produce could at least keep the lines clean. Too much to ask though.

I've had a couple of extremely dodgy pints of guiness in clubs in Southampton! But i suppose that's to be expected- probably been watered down.

I agree though FWIW, Guiness is usually a pretty safe choice.

Spot on. Dirty lines can really give you a dose of the plops as well. I never drink beer at SMS - that's what the Guide Dog is for (when I don't have to drive). I could be persauded to change my mind though - if the German markets can transport and serve high quality pilsner in December in the City Centre, surely caterers with braincells could do so at SMS?

They serve Pauliner, which isn't too bad.....be nice to have an interesting choice at SMS, away fans would like it!

It is decent stuff and Bitburger or Hofbrau are other options that I have seen at other major sporting venues (namely cricket). We'd sell more beer in the ground, I would be happy to pay 20-30p a pint more if it was a decent pint of the above.

Three weeks ago I thought the club was dead and buried but it appears things are back to normal.

What a great manifesto ... be sure to send onto SFC.:D

And to make it even better, when the missus asks why you've rolled home blind drunk and can't even remember the score, you can simply say you were just doing your own little bit for the club's future

Exactly fella, if you served some decent German Wissbier along with the fizzy pop people will comment.....I would happily pay £3.50 for some Pauliner, maybe I should write in....

I'm thinking of doing the same Lee Saint, new people sometimes are receptive to different ideas early on in their regime. As for Copenhagen, the Carlsberg the locals get there is superb and bears no resemblence to the fizzy garbage "brewed" on licence in Northampton. The Carlsberg stout over there is particularly good.

Serious Question: if they stop memberships this year, who will be able to buy a pint from the members bar accessable along the Kingsland? I seem to recall the beer was better in there.

I had a pint of bitter from the Itchen on Saturday afternoon and trust me it wasnt great. I could imagine it had been there some time. My trumps smelt of dog poo well into Sunday afternoon.
