Guy Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Now Then. Me and a couple of Mates will be going to the Brentford game next week. We'd usually sit in the Chapel Stand. As you know, this has now been allocated as the Family Stand with slightly cheaper tickets. There's no mention on the OS about restrictions, so I assume there's no problem in buying adult tickets without any children. Did any regular Chapellers go to the Millwall match, were there any noticeable changes ie. awash with overactive kids or something stupid like stop selling beer? Smirking_Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Agreed, as much as i like shouting obscenities at the players and match officials like any other fan, don't do it in a family enclosure, especially if surrounded by kids etc
St.Patrik Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Its perfect that the club do this. I will bring my eldest daughter to a Saints game this season and its nice to avoid the banter and screaming at least for her first game at St.Marys : )

Gravesend Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 As I've said before, we always bring our kids and sit in the family section. I don't agree with swearing in this section but it doesn't mean you can't shout out (as long as it's clean) and sing along. Why some who sit there feel that they've got to be inanimate, though, is beyond me. They should show some passion and show the kids what it means to support the team or they'll grow up to be a silent generation and St Mary's will get like the Emirates. for_heaven's_Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 if it is a family stand..respect that and dont go there unless you are with your family I don't see why people can't sit in the Chapel without their family, providing they aren't swearing and shouting ect. When I've sat in the Chapel before, everyone has generally been quiet and just watched the game anyway, so I don't think it'd really make much difference whether there are more children around or not. niceandfriendly Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Why did they feel the need to make the whole of the Chapel the family enclosure anyway? Was the old one constantly sold out? :s
Saint In Exile Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 TBH.... I've got a season ticket in that end and didn't notice any difference at the Millwall game!!
Seany S Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I took my daughter on Saturday, and it was her first game - she is 4. For me as a dad it is perfect to have this kind of set up. There were hundreds of families with kids and it couldn't have gone any better, she really enjoyed it. There was none of the usual "choice" language you would get from elsewhere in the ground, and I was able to relax, which was a relief as I was nervous she would get bored and annoyed and lose interest! Mind you, on matchdays when I am going with my mates I would probably want to sit elsewhere where it is a bit more lively and you can have a shout and a sweary moan. That said, it made for a pleasant experience that we actually played all right and I didn't feel the need to shout at anyone anyway (I did bite my tongue on a "****ing hell, Wotton" once or twice though). Chap in the Chapel Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I noticed no difference at all at the Millwall game and I've been an ST holder there since day one. The area where I sit is virtually all season-ticket holders anyway and they've nearly all renewed, it seems, so I'm not anticipating being invaded by hordes of kids this season. Block 20 seems to be largely kid-free and whenever there have been kids for a quid days they've tended to be allocated seats up towards the back of the Chapel end. The9 Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Its perfect that the club do this. I will bring my eldest daughter to a Saints game this season and its nice to avoid the banter and screaming at least for her first game at St.Marys : ) The best bit of this on Saturday was the point when I (in the Northam) started yelling obscenities at the ref about the penalty - and when my girlfriend pointed at the small child in the row in front, I merely pointed at the Family Enclosure. Hah, guilt-free sweariness, surely the point of Family Enclosures ?
crouchi Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 There are no restrictions so ideal for us cheapskates who are prepared to moderate their language - it is the Chapel anyway, so not exactly the most vibrant atmosphere and there was bags of spce at the Millwall game. nathan Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I have been sitting there since St Marys opened and didn't notice any difference on Saturday. I swear occasionally and have a go at the ref, so if anyone comes and tells me that after 18 years of being a season ticket holder (I'm only 25), I can't swear anymore I will tell them to 'f**k off'!! Seriously, I'm a little bit miffed why they moved the family enclosure, but like others have said, most people around me have renewed so I can't see there being much difference. John Boy Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Being behind the goal is a footie experience so why not open it up to families. Although I suspect with the closure of 3 corners last year as the J-Saints corner is self contained with facilities moving it to the Chapel means that they can now close that corner if the crowds are too small. alpine_saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Got back to Southampton yesterday; currently sitting in Sunny Sholing. So Chapel is the family stand ? the saint in winchester Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Hey brothers and sisters, Alpine is attending a game! We should mark this occasion. Would your lad like lead to lead the team out? You should also be announced. A 'fan in the stand' moment.

SoccerMom Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I guess that the decision to enlarge the family bit has something to do with the new pricing strategy - anticipating that they would get more families with kids coming free or cut price. Funny, we moved out of the enclosure this year as the nipper wanted to, but we feel less inclined to sing in the Kingsland than we did in the FE. We might move back... CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I was hoping we could keep the fact that we Chapelites get season tickets for £40 less than fans behind the other goal a secret - we're already unpopular enough as it is . SFC Forever Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I bought my first st's for me and my 10 yo daughter and found the view behind the goal perfect. Lots of people standing at or near the top seemed to be regulars. My first try at the Family end and there was some singing and shouting but without the usual abuse. Kelvin signed a few shirts andeverybody was happy enough at the end of the game. My 5 yo was taken and he also enjoyed the game. Being so close to the goal also helped him shout as the ball went in. Alpine your girl should enjoy herself especially when she sees that there are a lot of other kids there. One thing my 5yo nipper enjoys is the resplendant array of Saints shirts on display. He has seen me in red and white, yellow, white and the blue. Seeing so many shirts on display really gives him a buzz.
