Good move! (extended opening hours for the bar)

If they had decent beer, it would be a good idea - to extend the football talk and chat with like minded Saints fans. But, as it is, we'd need to gain access into another part of the ground (which may have problems with so many vacating/delayed access) if you're not in The Kingsland (it would be better if all bars stayed open but understand logistical problems for this) just for an extra hour drinking. Also, the prospect of any pub being open, serving much better beers (in glasses) seems a much better prospect but points to Saints for trying.

Now, if they just served decent beer/cider, it would make a big difference...

After the final whistle I'm straight off to get some decent ale as soon as possible, after another agonising 95 minutes of failing to beat [insert non-entity football club you never thought we'd play in the league]. I won't be heading to the Kingsland to drink Carlsberg/Tetley's.

Keep those ideas coming guys, must do better than this one though, get some decent bottled beer in...

Only people I can think this MIGHT appeal to are those whose mates shoot off in different directions after the game, chance to have a quick pint before they go their seperate ways, or maybe anyone with kids who don't want to take them to the pub....both a bit unlikely I know, but I can't think who else this would really appeal to for all the reasosn mentioned above.

At least the club are trying other things though.

As stated already what is needed is decent/fast access to bottled beers at half time. I don't bother with a pint at half-time as the queues are far too long, just to rush down a quick pint. If I could get downstairs at the half-time whistle and get a bottle of beer, even if it was only something like Carlsberg, in a couple of minutes, the club would be getting money out of me it wouldn't otherwise.

Hmmm....Nice idea in theory....difficult to see how they can police the "no away fans" policy though....not beyond the wit of man for away fans to acquire home ticket stubs after the game I'd venture....

Entry only from the stands will ensure the away fans don't get in...

I still think they ought to sell a far better selection of bottled beers, and have a 'bottle only' bar......I hate queing for more than five minutes

Hhhhmmmmm an enormous supply of glass bottles at a football match.

I really can't imagine why they don't it already

What hacks me off more than anything is the fact that if football didn't attract the hooligan element the decent majority could all drink beer in the comfort of our seats.

Why did the football authorities take the easy 'sledgehammer to crack a nut' way out in the first place?

Surely allowing people to have a leisurely beer at their seats would bread a more chilled out atmosphere - and rather than bring in 'tar everyone with the same brush' arcane rules, just ban those hooligans that abuse the system?

Strewth.

How about only selling glass bottled beer to those sensible people that won't turn it into a weapon? And arrest, lock up and throw away the key to those who do? Just a thought....

But, ah no, the actions of a minority mean that can't possibly happen.

I'm personally not too bothered about not having a beer at my seat, would get knocked over 9 times out of ten!

With glass bottles, its the same as at cricket, gigs etc, just takes one idiot, or if someone was to accidently drop one downstairs in the Northam at half time it would be classed as "dangerours".

Just think there must be someway to qucikly serve half decent beer, I know loads of people who just don't bother at half time, who would otherwise be happy spending their money in the ground.

How about splittng the queues....one set of queues would be 'fasttrack'...i.e. "2 pre-prepared beers or less - no grub - nothing that needs pouring or preparing + exact change only"...leaving the other queues for "those who buy 64 pints for their mates", "those who want beer and food" and "those who want to wait 6 hours for a student to work out the change from a £20 note".

Very, very simple....surely?

If they were to show some basic highlights of the game (and previous games during the season) and get some decent beers in i might be tempted...maybe a signed shirt raffle or some such like as well...

...and a tinned fruit tombola...and that game where you have to guess which pipe the rat is coming down before tonking it on the head....

Decent ideas, but for example, the queue for exact change only, how many people will be in that trying to persuade the kid behind the counter to make an exception, or getting their own maths wrong!

I can't see some of the staff being able to cope with the concept of two queues, never mind having to count how many beers people have...

...to be honest I'd go for 2 queues, one Fasttrack for me, the other for you lot. ;)

Not as simple as opening that damn bottled beer hatch and having one person serve beers at 3 pound a pop to many more customers and making a load of money quickly...

Closing those is utterly stupid...

No. Simply a raffle...which people will pay money towards and feel inclined to stay around a little longer to find out if they've won...

Funnily enough, I believe that technology has moved on to such an extent, that you can make bottles out of plastic nowadays :smt065

Totally agree 100% how many people now just don't bother or go down look at the queue and go back upstairs without buying anything!

What a complete waste of revenue....if you sell 4 bottles in the whole of half-time you more than pay the wages of the poor seller behind the kiosk.

Still does a bit of damage though when it hits you on the head from a great height, eh ?

:)

Ps. I do agree that if you drink sh#t beer from a plastic bottle or a plastic glass it is still sh#t beer !!

Who on earth would want to stand in a freezing cold, sh*tty concourse, drinking watered down, flat, over-priced beer when you could go to a nice warm pub and get a decent and cheap pint?

Do these even exist any more? :|

The Anchor isnt bad, apart from having to hobble down those poxy stairs on my duff ankle to get to the bogs.

A nice idea, but one that is likely to be passed up on due to the fact the beer is over-priced and dreadful.

Up until about 8 months ago, I was able to drink the bottles (plastic) of Carlsberg.......overpriced yep, but didn't taste half as bad as what's served as a pulled pint of lager from the pump.

Its good that the club are trying something new,but i cant see many fans staying behind because the beer sold in the concourse is so awful.

Just better to go to a local pub and get cheaper, proper beer.

If the quality of the beer improved and as someone said in an earlier post, highlights of ant Saints goals were shown, then maybe it could work.

Good thinking Scudamore :smt023........tbf, the quality of the beer isn't gonna draw the punters in, so I spose you're right, there's gotta be another reason for people to stay behind.

So you won't be there then ????... You'll be sadly missed

I agree the Beer leaves a lot to be desired, BUT .... OUR CLUB is attempting something NEW ... so why knock it ????

I don't know when Carlsburg's contract for the supply of beer runs out, but I am sure that, ( as with most things so far ) Mssrs Leibherr/Cotese DO listen to what is said on here and elsewhere

As regards Saturday, SURELY, a Saints Victory would be worth staying behind to celebrate ... even if it's for just one pint ......

The Victory will make even Carlsburg's Gnat's P bearable IMHO:D

I recently went to an AFL game at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne. 50,000 + crowd.

You could walk to any one of many bars or food outlets at anytime

Get your pre poured beer large or small in a plastic cup.

Take it back to your seat all in 5 minutes at the most !

BTW On a cold or rainy day the roof is closed.

SMS may be a fairly new stadium ...but the standard of basic supporter amenities is woeful

Probably more to do with ancient laws than the club?

I was thinking along the lines of a pre paid que. You could buy your beer voucher at the start of the game and just give over the requisite numers of tokens to the monkeys behind the bar in exchange for a pint. This way they could get pouring a bit earlier. this may also allow people the rare opportunity to get a SECOND pint!! I'm sure some of these idea s are worht trying under the new management.

Also i went to the Ricoh recently and there concorses seamed to be much more welcomeing than ours, also a better variety of food and beer was available.
