Professor Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Pards has made it very clear that the squad is not only too big, but is far too big. He's got a few out on loan, but maybe some he has loaned are players he sees as coming back improved. Is there likely to be big clear out and who could be transferred in Jan, and who might not be on the retained list at the end of the season? Also, which of the loanees we have here do we think Pardew will try to sign permanently (Trotman, I hope for one).
SaintRobbie Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 January. And I suspect as well as losing some of the legacy players we'll gain further reinforcements. By January I expect Pards to have players quueing to join us.
Professor Posted 22 October, 2009 Author Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Agreed, I think players will see this as the place to be as a route to the CCC in 2011.
alpine_saint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I expect a big clear-out in January. Top of the list has to be Saganowski. Its about time the club negotiated a compromise figure for paying off his contract with his agent. I cannot see any point in keeping Molyneux, and having Bart, Forecast and Pernecky seems a waste. Lancahsire, White, Thomson all need a loan spell, and are we ever going to see Boyle, or should he move on ? I also wonder if we need Thomas if Murty makes it back to fitness. greg_hill Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I think Thomas is at least a useful squad player but his salary may be causing tension in the ranks. Now speaking of transfers, guys, I watch a lot of football out here in Thailand and Arsenal are after two players at my local club. If I wanted to recommend a player to Saints, whom should I contact and how? I'm not trying to be an agent or any nonsense like that, I just want to know how to go about notifying the club if I think I see a gem to be snapped up. Danish Saint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Agree with Saganowski being at the top of the clear-out list. But would also like to see the back of Forecast, Perry, Molyneux, Gillett, Pulis, Lancashire & Poke. None of these players will ever get a sniff at first-team football, so why keep them? I'm hoping we'll sign Trotmann on a permanent basis and add a better cover CB than Perry.

Sometimes clubs have injuries and need replacements we have been very lucky this year with injuries I would have thought. But players come and go all the time Edited 22 October, 2009 by John B
doggface Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 By Pardew's comments I think it is clear Saints have been desperately trying to off-load players for some time but there have been no takers. Hopefully some will leave in January if we can fix them up but I would expect more to leave in the summer when some contracts are up.
dubai_phil Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Thomas is on a lot of money. He's needed at the moment as cover, but if we are working to a "5 year plan" then a younger "Trottman" who CDAJF a couple of games while learning and improving may be a better and more harmonious bet. Certainly Saga has to go as does Molyneux (and Pulis of course) It could test the budget strings - which is more important, using funds to pay off salaries or bring in new players? Would be nice to do both and get a final clean slate. Think the actual decisions will depend on how long we continue this good run and whether there is a realistic chance of a playoff spot - then we can go for clean out and class rather than clean out and cover in January
krissyboy31 Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 We may not be able to clear out some of the "dead wood" until their contracts expire and they can be released. I guess it's a possibility that Saint's may decide to pay some of these up, just to get shot.

mattyd Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Lancashire, White and Thomas have all failed to make the grade. They are simply not up to league 1 standard. We should look to offload these ASAP. Remember when we were in the higher leagues we loaned young players to league 1 clubs and these boys cannot make it!! Think the actual decisions will depend on how long we continue this good run and whether there is a realistic chance of a playoff spot - then we can go for clean out and class rather than clean out and cover in January I think you'll find, Phil, that this is one more legacy from the old regime which hasn't been dealt with yet. There are a number of players in the club who clearly will never see even the subs bench in anger. They were signed because they were young and cheap and not for great untapped potential. To them we have some players at the end of their career and/or form who are on big money. In either case there aren't clubs out there who are interested in them at the kind of money they're already on. Forecast, for instance, has 3 1/2 years left on what must for him be a lucrative contract. The nettle will have to be grasped when it comes to several of them: THEIR CONTRACTS MUST BE PAID OFF. Keeping them at the club as uncompetitive hangers-on will not benefit either them of the club.

Personally I thought that for the second half of last season he was our best outfield player, showing great improvement after a shakey start where he looked out of his depth (along with the similarly improved Lloyd James). Although he looked a bit lost when he finally appeared again earlier this season, I think he has real potential at a higher level than Div3 and he's still very young. Much more likely to be a long term replacement for Davis than Bart, and now has considerably more 1st team experience than Bart as well, albeit at a lower level. Poke is actually a very good keeper, and some more experience playing in L2 will be very useful.

He seems to not be liked by Pardew and also to better himself needs to be playing games. Interestingly he was man of the match in the Suns rating for his first game for Donny.
