Lol,

personally i agree, i think they are doing a saints. But i think they may just get away with it.

They are pretty toothless up front, bad at the back, but play decent football.

Their chairman is apparantly broke, and admin whispers appearing.

Sound familiar ??

Whilst not wishing to get involved with their private grievances, this seemed pretty harsh and shows an incredibly short memory:

Re: Are we going to do a Southampton?

Sir Dodger Royal, 28 Nov 2009 19:18

Yes we will go down as long at the tight old git of a Chairman is at the helm. SDR is always right. Real Fact. You have been warend. Time for a demonstration.

You know it makes senseeeeeeeeeee

"The tight old git of a Chairman" is the one who bought a floundering club in the old Division 3 or 4, moved them from Elm Park to a new stadium and...took them to the Premiership...

That's football fans for you though, they never look at the bigger picture - just what is happening right now. They're bitter because he's stopped releasing money and has sold all their top earners - but that's because he hasn't been able to sell the club, which he has been trying to do for a few years.

To be fair to John M, he did get involved with the club when they were struggling badly and because of him they had a couple of seasons in the Premiership, he gave the fans the best years they've had and now wants someone who can pump new money into the club to takeover.

At least he's not trying to cling onto power at all costs like a certain Mr Lowe did.

He's scored a couple in their last few games actually, including a late winner diving header to secure their first home win of the season. I keep reassuring my Reading supporting mate that he will come good if they give him some decent service, but he maintains that he's awful. Wouldn't be too surprised if he went off the boil a bit having gone out on loan 2/3 seasons in a row and being told you weren't wanted at the club you were at.

I think Reading are in danger this season, but Madejski isn't broke I don't think. He has got a lot of backing from the board, and they were a prem team not long ago, so investment shouldn't be that hard to come by working on the basis that we got a billionaire in League One! I agree with my Reading mate though, that they need to get rid of Brendan Rogers. Had one good season with Watford but is totally inexperienced as a manager, and hasn't got the experience and steel needed to steer a poor quality team away from relegation.

I love reading other clubs message boards. It's nice to know that miserable bastards aren't restriucted to an SO postcode

(anyone know a good p*mpey board I can laugh at ;))

It must be a football fan thing, with only the odd one with a pinky in reality

"You are saying the way not to go bust like Southampton is to spend more money that we haven't got. Isn't there something wrong with your argument there?"

Well at least one can actually remember what happened.

the only difference between a mr lowe (who it think it is you're referring to ;)) is that he wasn't looking to sell up...he was stubborn and wanted to fix it himself.

Not the only difference by any means, the will to find a backer is really just the tip of the iceberg.

Madjeski took a club from, probably about where we are now, into the Premiership and delivered a stadium.RL on the other hand took an established premiership club and almost drove it into oblivion.

yes, very, very different - dont see the comparison at all - bottom line - Reading are still in a better position than they were, when Mr Lowe left we were in the worst postion we had been in living memory!

Also Madjewski isn't mentally unstable enough to get rid of a decent manager and bring in useless Dutchmen with history of failure wherever they have been unlike here at that time.

Makes you realise how great going to SMS is now with only Papa and offside to shout about ;-)

Maybe the football cookie is crumbling. Palace failed to pay their players today.

If that's the way the cookie crumbles, then we need to take advantage of the situation.

These failing CCC clubs will have to sell players in January, pretty much just to survive. Scott Loach at Watford has been mentioned for example.

Since we do have money available and no debts to worry about, perhaps we could seek to relieve the debt laden of a few of their better players, all at bargain prices of course!

Even dropping down a division, said players may prefer a club on the rise and where the monthly wage is guaranteed rather than face admin and uncertain wages. There was a recent rumour (admittedly on 606) that Pardew is looking at Freddie Sears who is currently on loan at Palace. Allegedly WHU will let him go but it seems pretty certain that Palace won't be buying him any time soon.

Another thought is that if any CCC clubs happened to fold (probably not, but you never know) then might it create a situation for more clubs to be promoted from L1 this season (says he hopefully)... ?

Very harsh. Dodger needs to get this facts straight. They are deeply indebted the alleged 'tight old git'. Ungrateful Dodger.

Madjeski's businesses did shockingly during the recession - and he's not exactly broke, but he's had planning approval for a project at station hill in Reading which will cost him an absolute bomb. Therefore - he's trying to sell the club and has seriously cut his cloth accordingly.

But, the similarities between them this season and us last season are endless:

* Replaced their decent strikers they sold with no-one

* Youngster at the back on loan from Chelsea

* Have loaned out experienced players to save money

* Don't always seem to use the experienced players still at the club

* Appoint a random youth manager with a poor past record

* Rasiak. lol

* Shi-ite at home, not too bad away

the list goes on......

Darren Ambrose at Charlton another one in the gossip columns.

Tbh every club in all divisions should be looking at what happened to us and learning from our mistakes.

Reading are just one of many clubs on the slippery slope along with Pompey.

Rupes took a close look at what happened to Leeds. It didn't stop us going bust though, did it?

To be fair to him though, he wasn't part of the the board which spent £7m we didn't have, causing all the problems. Your point remains, though.

I seriously think we need wage capping in football. The number of clubs in the sh*t because they pay players wages they can't afford. They pay the wages because if they don't they wont get the best players and will just slip down the Leagues. The money needed for wages to stay in each league is always greater than the income you get in that league.

All this with players like Terry, Ballack, Adebayor, Tevez etc. taking home upwards of £150k a week. It's obscene.
