FL1 attendances this season - Saints are third atm

With a much smaller population than Southampton, Norwich's support is amazingly good with their smallest gate being bigger than our best. However, four other clubs have had their best attendance when we were the visitors and that is only bettered by Leeds.

Never under estimate the pulling power of Delia's HT catering ;)

How on earth did we manage our highest attendance for a televised game?

And surely yesterday's attendance of 19800 is pretty poor considering our recent form? I know it's 'before Chrsitmas' etc but still.

For third-tier English football that aint "pretty poor" it's a very good attendance.

Dirty-Leeds last home game saw 36k for a top-of-table local derby, unusual at this level but not surprising for a big club that could get 40k in the Prem. Their home league game before that saw less than we got yesterday.

And I'd guess we'll get a near full-house Boxing Day (26th Dec for 'Trousers'), particularly if we do win next Saturday.

It's poor in the context of our other attendances this season, that's what I was getting at. I wasn't comparing it to other teams' attendances.

Don't forget though mate Tranmere only brought 50 fans with them, so 19750 saints fans for the match ain't half bad. To be honest i though there was more than that yesterday. Going back to Norwich, their ticket prices are very fair, also the have February or march madness, so when the tickets went on sale they had every chance of still being in the Championship!

It would be interesting to see how our attendances compare with previous season's best's in this division????

Yes, that is a fair point which I hadn't considered.

I think my disappointment at the at the size of the attendance may have been intensified by the long, long wait I had to put up with in order to buy tickets before the game. It's the first time I've ever had to buy tickets on the day and even though I got there by 2:20pm, I still just missed kickoff.

After that, I was left thinking, "Surely it must be a big crowd?" but apparently not! If that's how busy / slow the ticket is processing the walk up crowd, then I wonder if something could be done. I'm not sure what, but I just had the feeling that the situation wasn't perhaps handled as well as it could be.

Do what they do for cup games and make it cheaper if you book in advance. Most clubs do.

The fact that Leeds and Norwich are higher is still an embarassment. We should be at 25k and higher

Is it really an "embarrassment lost boy??

Leeds Utd are a massive, massive club and Norwich have a really impressive price structure and their sales policy 'cheap season tickets sold early' has built up a great fan base. You also need to take in to context their location, Ipswich, Colchester, Norwich and that's it. Also not forgetting we've had 5 years of in-fighting culminating in administration, we've lost fans and it takes time to win them back, people get used to not coming anymore, but, they are coming back. I went with 9 lads yesterday, beginning of the season there was just 3 of us!!!!!!

Leeds are a much bigger club in every way than Southampton.

There is f*ck all else to do in Norwich on a Saturday and they have an impressive price structure on season tickets.

Also, draw a circle 40 miles around Norwich, and there is fook all else around for people living in nearby towns.

Norwich don't have an amazing support, they have a sensible chairman and are one of the luckiest teams geographically in terms of attracting support.

You'd think so but Elland Road is a tip. Ken Bates fronts them but no one seems to be sure who actually owns them (does this sound familiar?). There is loads of derelict land around Elland Road so if they were that big/rich nowadays they would surely have announced some plans to improve or get a better stadium and surrounding facilities.

I love Saints, I love the form we are in, we are great, we are moving the right direction etc etc regardless of who owns LUFC and regardless of the surrounding area, Leeds are huge, something we can only dream of, BUT all dreams are achievable, and under Marcus and Pardew I do believe we can achieve it!

In terms of Saints fans it was probably the best this season, Tranmere had about 4 fans, compared to Brightons 3000. Great turnout yesterday.

Norwich and Leeds are both near the top of the league. Saints were in the bottom four for along time. Considering that Saints are doing very well attendance wise. Higher than most Championship clubs and very close to many Premiership clubs whilst still in League One.

Leeds are a bigger club than Saints and always have/will be so not really a surprise.

Nothing else to do in Norfolk on a Saturday other than goto the football at Carrow Road.

Should Saints get close to the playoffs they will start getting bigger gates than Norwich. They have a high number of season tickets and regular match goers however they won't be able to add much on what they currently get.

Is that a picture from yesterday? Who are the fans sat to the right of the line of stewards? I thought the corners were shut all the way round to the Itchen?

Yahoo! You can still get Plastics in the 3rd Division, that was going to be my question on the Muppet show over Christmas.

We must have sold loads into the 20K's for Boxing Day I bought extra tickets for Family and they are 6 rows behind where I can normally get seats at shorter notice on the fringes of the masses in the Chapel................................ I just hope we don't get the mothers meeting conversation that was going on between a couple of chaps, who none of us had ever seen before, behind us all through the 1st half yesterday; thankfully they got lost finding their way back to their seats for the second half.
