SuperMikey Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Opinion seems to be divided between users on here as to how good a job they think Cortese is doing here, so perhaps we could have a poll just to see the general consensus on the subject? I know it's "yet another Cortese thread", but it would be interesting to see the actual percentages of people's opinions rather than just DBP rants. Poll options: Brilliant - I have 100% confidence in him Going well, but some decisions have worried me slightly Okay, but generally not a fan of him Poor, would prefer that somebody else took over Awful, Cortese out FFS! NickG Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 definately heading in right direction. Not the sort of public character you easily warm to Important issues: appointed very very good manager for our level signed excellent players team clearly on up very ambitious doesn't get involved in discussing gossip all positive less important issues strange lack of communication re issues such as late announcement of season tickets and programme etc - relativelly minor withdrawal of installment plan without communication

Dave Benson Phillips Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 (edited) so he has upset you over season tickets but i would suggest the new regime have done more good than bad. How Pardew Situation was dealt with. Lack of communication when dealing with complaints. Removing Ted Bates Trophy weeks after his wife passed away. Almost doubling car parking charges. Removal of Suite Packages named after legends. Booking Fee Matchday Surcharge Lack of notification over pre-season tour. Making digs at Le Tiss and other legends. Petty squabbles and childish bitterness with the Echo Delaying of the wonderful training group upgrades through his arrogance. Refusal to communicate with Southampton fans at any level Complete disregard for the fans charter with no explanation and ( might as well put these in now to save me coming back and editing my post ) Price rises in the concourses. No fans forum. Edited 14 July, 2010 by Dave Benson Phillips
Andy_Porter Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Okay, but generally not a fan of him. If he or someone at the club explained the U-turn on a few things he wrote about in the charter and there was a more open communication policy I'd be very happy, as it is I'm not at all sure about him. Saint Fan CaM Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 What a pathetic thread. That is my primary opinion. It is also my opinion that NC is doing an exceptional job, based purely on the fact that he gave me the most enjoyable season of Saints football at SMS for a decade and while there are other minor +/- points that's all that counts in my book. dune Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Sometimes brilliant, sometimes awful. Time will be the judge and I think if he stays the course (and ML keeps funding us) he'll deliver success, but I'm not encouraged with the way he treats supporters and supporting the club is set to become very expensive. dockland Dave Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Compared to 15 months ago, none of us can complain. There are only one or two on here that would argue with a paper bag who would disagree. Ok he has made a few dodgy decisions on season tickets, car parking, and his relationship with the Echo. but we have a debt free club, are huge favourites for promotion, have the best squad in the league by a country mile, and for the first time in 5 years have been able to hold onto our best young players. We have a set up that can match every other L1 or CCC club NC is a hard nosed banker, and like most people in his position will only tolerate success and he will p..s on anyone that gets in his way! You are not going to get the all round nice guy, but what you will get is a winner, and I think we all (Saints fans) deserve a little success! Bring on the season. I can appreciate it that he has done many a good things for the club with the setup of the management structure etc... although with his funding I would expect that from most half-decent football chairman. His attitude towards fans, staff, ex-players and press/media is very very worrying though, and the main reason I would rather he walked away. up and away Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Going very well, but some decisions have worried me slightly but generally not a fan of his especially how he handled the Pardew failure to make the play off issue I thought the handling of Pardew was excellent. Pardew screwed up big time in concentrating on the cups against his bosses direction. But no ego or spite, took the decision that he deemed best in the long run, irrespective of past errors. In doing so he left Pardew in no doubt what is expected and required for the future. I agree he could be a bit more fan friendly when you look at some of his actions, but in the grand scheme of things, it hardly registers.

As for Leeds, their exploits in the FA cup came very close to costing them an automatic spot. The only indirect criticism Pardew got was Cortese saying the league was the top, top priority and the players signed in the January window were for that purpose. Many chairman with the power and finance Cortese had behind him would have sacked Pardew for that alone. Corteses actions were measured and based upon the best course of action from that point on, irrespective of personality or previous. If our league form suffers because of cup involvement this season and looks like costing us an automatic spot, Pardew deserves to and will be out on his arse. aintforever Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 He appears to have played a big part in getting Leibherr to buy the club so he has to take credit for that. As for his ability to run a football club - the jury is definitely out. On the important side - the pitch, when you have a billionaire in charge it's just a case of finding the right manager and everything else falls into place. Pardew has done OK, this season will be the test. Off the pitch he has already made plenty of ****-ups, but he is still learning the ropes and hopefully will improve. My gut feeling is that he won't be around for long.

SuperMikey Posted 14 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 14 July, 2010 For those saying it's a pathetic thread, it's not imo. There has been a lot of one-sided debate in the past on this subject and I thought it would be good to actually try and collect an idea of how people think NC is getting on at Saints on an even basis rather than it turning into another DBP/SRS thread bashing him, which is completely anti-Cortese. Those threads happen to spring up a lot more frequently than pro-Cortese threads, so one would be led to think that perhaps people don't like the guy. Personally, i'm 100% behind him and I hope he's here for many, many years to come.
