Did AP know?

I've no doubt that the manager of the club probably did know... something like this wouldn't have been kept from him I suspect.

It certainly explains the "lack" of transfer activity, but of course, this all pales into insignificance at this very moment.

I havent read anywhere when exactly it happened, so its entirely possible that it had either already happened or word had come through that it was imminent.

No doubt in my mind that AP knew he was very seriously ill.

A friend of mine who works at SFC heard that he died late this afternoon.

Puts some perspective to the Chairman and his alleged unhappiness with our lack of promotion last season. Especially if the reports of a 'long illness' are true......

Also explains why our pre-season was where it was.

Yep. He must have known he wouldnt make it through another promotion campaign. A tragedy.

I thought he looked ill when he came to the club very jaundiced.

He was a total jaundiced. I am so stunned. I just hope that those ficle fans and they know who can retract their very racist comments of late and start to back Nicole

we need him on board other wise the skate ****s will be in the ascendency.

Rest in Peace Sir Markus you were a true saint

Red army show some respect. A great man has died today

Another thought on this.

There was some talk with the transfer splash-out back in January that the 5-year plan had become a 3-year plan.

Connection ???

It was probably liver failure. Very sad.

A great man who had nothing but the Club's best intentions at heart. A true saint.

Condolences to his family.

It's strange how everything that has happened now seems so easy to explain.

We will continue your dream of the march to the Premiership.

Yeah, the impatience from Cortese in terms of demanding promotion. The random tour of Switzerland. The seemingly random selflessness of the takeover. His evidently schoolboy love of the JPT final.

I hope he got as much joy from his time in charge as we did.

It is as Tragic as it is incredible.

But why us!?

We needed him the most ?

You got to remember, this whole stupid vicious circle that football finance has got itself into is almost exclusively an English problem, and we were the highest profile club in trouble around that time. Maybe the sort of club we are (historically close-knit family/community) had something to do with it. But it could be something as bizarre as him being caught-up in the romance of us beating ManYoo in 1976; after all that was predicted in advance to be the most one-side FA Cup Final in history. Maybe he watched it. I get old Austrians comment on that game when they find out who I support.

Heard mentioned before it had something to with "Saints" but i wrote that off as BS. Maybe not?

I have been wondering whether Markus was ill when he bought us and did so because he wanted to do one final piece of good. Regardless my prayers go out to his family and his friends. (Don't forget NC in this as he must be hurting right now as they must of been close for Markus to fully and completely trust him 100%).

If it was a long term illness then I'm sure all senior staff knew....

As a couple have already suggested long term illness does explain a few things like the large investment in the squad in Jan and the eagerness to make the play-off's last season.

Maybe that was why he appointed Cortese to run the club for him so that he knew the club would be in capable hands when he did finally have to leave us.

As I read somewhere on this forum earlier, it's nice to know that Markus is still looking after us financially now that he's gone.

Of course we don't know the in's and out's but there is growing feeling looking at the message boards online that Markus was ill and knowingly bought the club and made provisions for the club for after his death to ensure we carried on.

If this is in fact true, what an incredible gesture from an incredible man. I am still totally, utterly choked.

Before I go to bed I would just like to say once more "God bless Markus, and rest in peace".

Never, ever will we forget you.

I have to say this is nonsense. ML bought the club expecting to see success as owner and chairman. He put Cortese in place as CEO as a man he trusted from their mutual business dealings beforehand where Cortese was a banker.

There was no sentiment in that at all. Just an ambition to have the club managed well. To suggest otherwise is plain silly.
