Official Statement from Cortese about future

I hope we can now support Cortese as we did Markus. He is the guy who is charged with getting us to the premiership by the family and he will need support not criticism and petty squabbling. I am sure this will be a lot less fun for him than it would have been with Markus there and I'm also sure he is going to enjoy the ride a lot less than we do so let's at least make it easy for him. I, like many on here, would like to see the fans unite behind the club as we look forward - I don't care whether it's a full house saturday (although I'll be there with my 6 year-old) - but I definately want the support to be unambiguous then and for the rest of the season irrespective of the odd poor result. I think it's the least we can do - Markus' family and indeed Cortese are sacrificing a lot more than that for us.

Great statement....should put everyones mind at ease regarding ownership and the future financing of the club.

This unfortunate incident seems to have galvanised Nicola Cortese and if ever there was an excuse to walk away then this was it BUT he hasnt and seems to have come out even more driven by the memory of his close friend.

Some people who are still a very small minority need to cut this man some slack, look at the bigger picture and stop concerning themselves in petty arguments over petty decisions that effect them.

I like that fact he mentions the "Saints Family" a couple of times....we always used to be.....or thats how it felt.

Agree, good post.

Nobody should worry whether a full house or not...just be there if you can.

Good statement and at the right time after the trauma of the past 10/11 days.

It says what I and many many others wanted and expected to hear.

Game on, the Journey continues and nice that he singled out Winkelman, especially as we now know that Markus's funeral was last Saturday

Yes, of course/

Is it possible that yourself and some of the loudest anti-Cortese bunch could cut him some slack? Seriously, he is doing a really tough job, first full pre-season, just lost his mentor, expected to win the league, the pressur is on. Not suggesting you guys don;t complain or whinge, but to just be not so personal and detremental to his persona as you have been. I think there is room for criticism but, I think we need to understand the complexities and pressure of NC's role now that Markus has moved on (RIP).

I know this will be very difficult for you guys, but, this season is very important and many lessons shall be learnt, can we let those who make the decisions learn from their mistakes. It will make them stronger and more successful in the long term. We all make mistakes, we all make errors of judgements, can this season be one of 'those' seasons, a fact finding mission if you like. And then, as fans, whether you're in the pub, at the ground, at home reading the current bun, we all celebrate this season for Markus and secure promotion early doors! It would make 'everyone' happy.

Mistakes are vital in life, for without them we learn nothing.

Failure however and mistakes that will cause failure are disasterous.

Losing a Mentor is very very tough, having somebody to bounce ideas off of is a key recipe for success. NC now has to learn to fly on his own and very quickly/

As fans we can actually help as a group. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism will be helpful. Immature sniping and moaning without any alternative proposals or suggestions will not.

I don't think we SHOULD cut NC any slack, I don't believe he would in his role.

But I do think those strange types who sit at home and keep a count of the points they've scored from spoiling attempts to debate and be constructive should just...............

Just what EVERYONE wanted to hear, its clear that Markus, NC and Markus's family have been touched deeply by the clubs supporters, this will only galvanise EVERYONE to propel Saints forward, its a statement for us all to put our minds at rest before a difficult occasion/game. We fell on our feet the day he walked into our club

Its a good statement but there is no need to mention this 'outside parties' stuff to be honest.

I disagree.

It's going to be an 'us and them' season.

We are the big spending team and we are favourites in this league which means we will be very unpopular with fans of other teams.

We are already unpopular with the Sun and other elements of the media.

It's at times like these that we need to stand together as a fanbase and unite against those that knock us (including some of the WUMs on here).

The vocal minority better read this statement carefully and get behind the club unstead of putting their own agendas first. We know what happened in 2004 when they got on their high horses, they set off events that brought the club to its knees once, they would never br forgiven for doing it again !

The way NC is dressed and sat in this pic is unbelievably disrespectful. His relaxed posture should not be in the same statement about ML's passing away. I cannot believe the club used this. It doesnt take much to take a new picture in all black and hands behind his back does it?

isnt this the picture they always use for his statements. chill out ffs

nice that he singled out Winkelman...

I thought that too... Also we have given out a lot of stick to "The Franchise" in the past, but I checked a couple of their forums and they seem a respectful bunch... Not wishing to start a love-in, but fair play to them and hope they get a good (and appreciative) reception when we get round to playing them...

How come a positive statement is released, at a time that is both respectfully long enough after Markus' passing and timed perfectly before our next game, and we have people on here point scoring against each other?

DBP hadn't even posted and he was mentioned a couple of times FFS!

This board is getting pretty tiresome when the only debate going on is between the same old people trying to bring up the same old arguments time and time again.

Personally i am glad NC still wants to see us succeed and it's great that the club sits with Markus' family now. I hope that a figure from the family steps forward to become part of the saints family so they can feel a proper part of the club.

I really hope this is meant as a joke.

"Excuse me Nicola, I understand you are going through a tough time and all but can you please dress in black and well up so we can take a picture of the pain you are feeling please? Mehball would really appreciate it."
