alpine_saint Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 FFS. Its the yearly "Ian Harte to Saints" rumour & thread.. And as you rightly say, unless AP is developing a Burley-Midfielder Complex, we have already strengthened in this department this summer

InvictaSaint Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 If memory serves, he only signed a further one year extension to his contract at Carlisle in the summer. Not that that necessarily means anything of course. Odd though...
Chez Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 He played Centre Back all last season I believe. he did and he wasn't very good in the games against us. Takes a mean free kick, obviously, but until football uses teh subs like American football there is no place for him in our first team.

Scudamore Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 Why do we need another left back? itchen_dan Posted 25 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 25 August, 2010 2 goals in 4 games this season 18 last season.....what are we missing at the moment...... do the maths guys Yeah but those goals are mainly through penalties, free kicks and headers from corners. Now... we have Lambert on free kick duty, Lambert on penalty duty and our corners cant beat the first man! Would be worthless IMO.

BotleySaint Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 My Carlisle supporting mate has often commented that its just as well he scored 18 goals, as he was responsible for letting that many in too! He finished the season with about +2 goal difference or something...

hugh Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 It's only a rumour carried by that minority Sky Sports News channel apparently. No truth in it then. If it were true then I would seriously worry about AP's sanity.

SaintBobby Posted 25 August, 2010 Share Posted 25 August, 2010 I'm surprised people are so anti-Harte. I think he'd be a great signing. I'm not wholly convinced by Seabourne, Martin or Jaidi at centre back and woudl prefer Harte-Fonte as the starting CBs. Also, don't see why it won't happen. It's not like us being linked to Benjani et al. Sounds like a plausible signing, although one vague report on Sky Sports hardly makes it a racing certainty. Don't really think we need a new CB to be honest. Martin, Seaborne and Jaidi are all good enough to partner Fonte, and Harte wouldn't be much of an improvement. Some Carlisle fans don't rate Harte defensively, apparently he isn't all that and is just a set-piece specialist.
Ken Tone Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 He's only about 5'9" or 5' 10", so would have to play alongside someone tall if he were at centre back .. more of a (very) poor man's Fonte than a potential partner for Fonte. Surely not a credible centre back signing for us? What is more he is just about to turn 33. If we hadn't already got 3 left backs then yes, he'd be a good signing at this level, but with the options we have there already, surely not. K. RedAndWhite91 Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 At least he'd be a better set piece taker than Puncheon.
corsacar saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 Perhaps,he could be used just as a free kick specialist[like goal kickers in the NFL],when the free kick favours a left footer. Seriously though,I do not think he would improve the team, one iota.[Maybe in his prime, but not know].

Chez Posted 26 August, 2010 Share Posted 26 August, 2010 Probably the worst player ever to play for us and not joking...behave, ignoring the fact he played in the Prem whilst other players were never good enough for that level, and he was playing with no knees, there have been countless players much worse than him such as Romain Gasmi, Thomas Pekhard, Antony Pulis, Darren Powell, Lee Molyneux, Stephen O'Halloran...and many many more than we could argue about all night.
