Hello chaps, just back from the game (student in Huddersfield and I drive like a chav ;)

First things first ive got to praise the Saints fans for their EPIC support of the team today, my throat is fully ****ed now and will be for a few days, the noise / atmos we made today was simply brilliant, best away day for me in a LONG time. We really made the home fans look pathetic.

On to the team performance.. A giant leap forward from my last game (swindon at home JPT before moving back up here). The team looked comfortable on the ball and had a real bite and threat when pushing forward. Stand out player for me today has to be Bardnard, the lad worked so hard on and off the ball, and at times looked like our best defender! Puncheon frustrated at times but even still, looked a class above that woeful Swindon performance the other week. Huge hats off the Kelvin DAVIS for keeping us in it at the end, two absolute world class saves first from the free kick at the death, and then with the last kick of the game from that c**t Morrison. Ill stick some ratings up once ive had tea...

Much improved performance and a great result. Barnard worked incredibly hard as usual and he probably just beats Kelvin to MOTM who made 2 brilliant saves in stoppage time. Wednesday didn't really get going in the 2nd half until the last 10 minutes and in truth we should have finished one of our other chances and killed the game off.

Back too. Great performance all round with, for me, Barnard, Kelvin the stars but Harding Seabourne and Jaidi (who was solid as a rock) not far behind. And signs of RL getting some form back.

But the most encouraging thing was the determination and commitment and the way we held on to a lead.

Hopefully good times ahead.

Back in London - I'd hazard to say that this was better than the brizzle performance - the way we started the game and the crispness and pace with which we pinged the ball about was something. First time I remember us creating one and one chances by passing through them while some of the rehearsed setpieces in the first half -one to Butterfield that was dragged back, then Puncheon- were class - good to see its not a dead art-from.

Unsurprisingly we had to soak up some pressure before and after half-time - they're a physical team who like to get the ball into the box and the ref did his best to gift them free-kicks in and around the box who (Sheff weds fans i spoke to were convinced that the shot that was slammed into Harding crossed the line but even they admitted they didnt deserve anything from the game).

Barnard and Schneiderlin had excellent games - fitting that they worked the goal while Puncheon and Hammond silenced a few critics (me included): Puncheon worked his socks off defensively and Hammond showed some real steely, in-your-face aggression (freeing up Schneiderlin). Was unfortunately booked for what looked to be the tackle of the day. Lambo's still a bit way off - one comical sliced cross in the first half summed things- but he's running much more freely. Slight concern that we didn't kill them off earlier - a gilt-edged header should have made their two late chances, especially the last one irrelevant.

No reason why we can't now pick up six points in the next week.

I am back now as well, much improved second half, thought Morgan and KD had good games, still a little worried about RL though, but am so pleased we actually scored. Fans did us proud today and the relief the players showed at the final whistle said it all.

Just back aswell...

Christ that was a long drive.KD star man for me made some great saves at the end..

Three excellent saves from Kelvin at the end but it would have been total injustice if we had come away with nothing. Some really good moves during the game, kept the ball much better and a couple of well worked free kicks in the first half. Hammond and Spiderman probably had their best games of the season, massive improvement. At times looked a really solid unit and as for the fans, kept behind the team all game and well worth the trip - bring on Tuesday

I don't like penalty "spots" which are rings. They should be a spot. Not a ring. I'm sure St. Mary's isn't like that, or at least I hope it's not. That little issue has taken the gloss of what should 've been a great day.

You don't think you're maybe beeing a bit an@l...

On my way back from Sheffield now after a brilliant night out.

Kevin pulled off 3 amazing saves, the last of which was one of the best I have ever seen. The players celebrated like he just scored!!

Despite this, I feel we deserved the win with our possession dominance and the chances we created.

Have to add, that's the first time I've been to Sheffield and they are by far the worst home crowd I have ever seen. They didn't muster up a single chant and the only noise they made was to boo their own team.

got back at about ten last night. great day out, well worth the £100 odd quid and many hours on the coach :)

good performance all-round really. defence looked solid. especially impressed with Seaborne over the last couple of games. seems to be finding his feet in a saints shirt. not so impressed with Jaidi (unlike some other posters) and am worried everytime he gets the ball. looked dangerous going forward. solid midfield. great work to win the ball back when lost from all who played. good style of play, on the floor, playing it around with a little more pace than before. great ball-retention after having taken the lead (makes a change!).

thought barney and kelvin were the two outstanding players. barney for his energy with and without the ball and of course his goal. kelvin for his 2 or 3 fantastic saves. the last one (last touch of the game) was probably the best save i've ever seen and i would say it was world-class without a doubt. lallana's surprise comeback also a huge positive, as well as the fact that we kept a clean sheet without Fonte.

Finally - OUTSTANDING support from all that made the trip. made it a fantastic day out with the atmosphere we made, especially at the end. put the booing wednesday fans (who i thought were a disgrace) to shame.

Also seems that Adkins has got the team really fired up judging by the amount of body-on-the-line blocks and tackles and the reaction at the end. was fantastic to see how much it meant to the players (especially Deano) with their reaction when the final whistle blew and they turned towards the fans (as well as the reaction with Adkins when he came onto the pitch). seems a real togetherness again. things are looking up :D :D :D

I can see why you'd be surprised to be fair, I wasnt expecting much when I came up here but its a nice enough town, people are nicer than down south and the beer round here is fantastic. I had the option of ox brooks, b'mouth or solent but this uni ranks much higher than any of those. Its a proper uni town, far better night out than the likes of winchester or pompey.

And my tea was a bit naff, tried a new curry house out and it was ****.

if it was like any of my student teas it was a couple of cans and Mars bar or some leftovers from the evening before's take away. Unless of course anyones parents had visited recently, then it was apple tart,home-made cake, chocolates and Fruit biscuits, still with the cans though.

Winchester is a great night out, and Bournmouth is OK understand why you would not want to go out in Pompy!!!! I've been out in several citys around like hull and it was pretty poo!!!!!! Best night out up north was Chester but for me doesnt come close to Winchester (some places in Southampton) and London Guildford is a good night out as well.

My youngest son is at uni in Chester and when i go up there to visit him, ive had some cracking nights out there.People are friendly and you are just far enough away from Manchester and Liverpool,so the locals havent got that attitude thing.

I think Winchester is naff and i dont like going out in Southampton because its full of kids who cant handle their beer, but i guess im just getting older.

I think winchester is rubbish, the attitude of the locals is so up themselves it's unbelievable, Bournemouth is good for pubs but the clubs are poor and southampton (unless you're a student) is seriously lacking for a city it's size.

The only decent places down on the south coast are Brighton and Brisaaal, then of course there's London which is in a league of it's own.

Ooop north i thought Manchester was a brilliant night out the times i've been, and i had a great laugh in Nottingham too. Leeds gets good press but it seemed to be split between violent arseholes who where up themselves and pretentious arseholes who where up themselves.

As for the slum that is pompey......... well unless you have a thing for random violence and clubs full of men it's the worst place i can think of for a night out.

I went to Huddersfield University over 15 years ago - but it's a new University as it was a Polytechnic originally - it became a University at the end of my first year. But the original college goes back a long way.

It was a fairly rough grim town back then - the students and locals didn't mix (student bashing was rife and my house was burgled 3 times in one year).

I had a great time being a student there - something was always going on at the Union - there were a lot of nightclubs which all had student nights - beer was about £1 a pint.

Spent a lot of time in Leeds and Manchester at the weekends - 15 and 45 minutes on the train.

There were a group of us who were all Football fans (Leeds, Sheff Weds, Boro, Man City). We used to borrow one of the union mini buses and go and watch City, Weds and Leeds quite a bit. I loved watching Chris Waddle dance his way down the touchline at Hillsborough and was in Leeds the day they won the title!
