Fitzhugh Fella Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I see Nigel is "in the building" again. Interesting views on Gobern, these sort of players that have been around a couple of years it is make or break this year I guess. Not sure he has made much of an impression on me yet, maybe this week he will. 3 home games in 7 days.

krissyboy31 Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 "and who will know what will happen with the transfer window" Sounds to me that he is being given 6 weeks or so to prove his worth to the squad. He has been impressive at times but is injury prone. If he can sort that out, then he has got to be a better option than Wotton. If, come January he hasn't taken that chance, he'll be replaced/moved on.

Faz Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 You need a degree of physical presence to play centre mid. OG was played on the wing, as is Chambo right now even though he (Chambo) says he plays centre mid. Very few youngsters have the presence to play there, which is why, whatever his faults, people need to cut Morgan some slack. Gievn his age and experience to cut it there has he has speaks volumes. suewhistle Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I've seen him play, can't remember when, but thought he had potential and he did have a physical presence and height which seemed lacking in a lot of our youngsters. No problems with good small players but Gobern did seem to bring something else. Perhaps he'll not be so injury prone if he has finished growing and muscolo-skeletal problems no longer have the same impact.

He played away to Preston two seasons ago when we came back to win from 2-0 down, set up the equaliser for Surman to nod home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW4aD9GSOng 15 seconds in. SaintRichmond Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 As people say our squad is good enough to get out of this league ONLY if they get over the attitude that all they have to do is run out on the pitch Promotion is not a "given" It has to be EARNED Pass THAT little fact on to our wonderful Squad

Chez Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I never understood why Gobern was played out wide. Quite clearly a central midfielder. Reminded me Carlton Palmer. Much rather see him on the bench than Wotton. Going back to Adkins' comments about Puncheon, it doesn't add up. He didn't want to go, but Adkins left the door open. Why on earth would a manager allow a very decent reserve to leave unless he had to reduce costs? Managers always want good options off the bench and a large squad. Brussels Saint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I only hope this does not mean that cash is in short supply! I don't think so. Watching the entire interview on Saints Player, NA heavily hinted that we would be bringing players in.

I need to watch it again, but I thought NA stated Puncheon, did not ask to leave, but took the opportunity to do so when it was offered. I think NA seemed to imply that JP was not happy and that's why they gave him the option which he was happy to take.

NA clearly said words to the effect the Puncheon hasnt scored the goals he might have, and that he only wants players at Saints who want to be here. Puncheon decided to join Millwall on loan when they enquired. Add in the tension with Crosby and that all says to me NA isnt happy with Puncheons performance and Puncheon isnt happy to be advised on improving his game / criticised. Pucheon thinks he can do better elsewhere and NA thinks Saints can do better elsewhere. Maybe both are right.

But you'd agree that if,and it's probably a big if, Puncheon does well at Millwall during the 10 weeks he'll be there initially then for some reason we didn't get the best out of him. I think he might well perform at Millwall, at least for a while. My sense is that he isnt much of a natural team player - maybe his social skills arent great. 7 clubs by the age of 24 tells us something.
