Interesting and very positive approach from Adkins. He repeatedly states that "we will win that game" before turning to the next on the fixture list and repeating the same mantra. Obviously there is the potential for setting oneself up for a fall with such rhetoric, but you have to admire his balls and his positivity; he is being unequivocal in what he expects.

Notice, too, the references to the "squad we will have in January". He says the same thing twice, in slightly different fashion each time, but it is there nonetheless. By using the future tense, it appears to me that he is making explicit reference to the players who are coming in (otherwise why not say "with the squad we have"?). Again, this makes positive (and exciting) reading.

"We have good competition for places, and come the January period we will have a stronger squad to go and deal with the situations that will arise because of the fixture pile up."

That's pretty conclusive. :) Signings!!

Although we've bloody spent loads as it is, we should be strong enough already.

Or it could just mean Richardson & Barnard will be fit again and Fonte suspension free.

Great he is recalling Pulis to strengthen the midfield..............;)

He is right about the fixture pile up maybe working to our advantage as not many teams have our resources.

If I was Nicola I would throw the chequebook at it, get a second eleven as strong as the first and we will rip this league a new ass hole when injuries and suspensions kick in.

Nigel does have a habit of saying too much with the number of words but he does show a positive attitude. I also find his talking about January very positive and more than a little interesting.

It leaves me hoping that we will see our team strengthened big time where needed, to give Nigel the options he wants for the team to play as he demands.

As has been said, we should already have the squad in place to get us out of this league at least. The team after january better rip this league to shreds. I'll be disappointed if we end up securing promotion on the last day of the season, or "safely" getting into the play-offs.

I don't mind how we win promotion, winning it on the last day would be quite special as it would be in front of a packed St. Mary's and the atmosphere would be fantastic, wouldn't want play offs though. That would be very disappointing.

Think you'll be on your own then! I'll take it any way it comes, and if it means finishing 6th, and going up through the play offs, then so be it. Or even finishing 7th, but then getting into the playoffs due to the top 3 going up automatically because of a club in the championship going out of business. Don't know who, but it could happen...

He most certainly will be on his own. Spending loads of money has never been a guarantee of success.

Perhaps I should have phrased it better - if we secure promotion on the last day with the teams around us having had great seasons, then i'll be happy. But as things stand there is no-one other than Brighton in this league who are pulling away. WE should be pulling away as well, not having to chase.

Of course it isn't, but if the team we have after january doesn't get us promoted automatically that is a disappointment in my eyes. I'll be ecstatic if we go up through play-offs but after a year and a half of building and what, around £3million spent? We really should be at the top of this league. Unfortunately my new found optimism from last season has already dissipated due to the lacklustre start this time round, so I find myself in the default setting of a Saints fan from the 6 years before Markus.

so what...we were playing catch up and needed players. We probably got one or two players because of the money we have and our ambition which is clearly promotion back to the Prem asap. That takes "bloody loads of money" so live with it!! Its not yours!!

And although Pardew spent relatively more than other League 1 teams in his year in charge it had to be done quickly so thats probably why there are still some glaring gaps in our team and squad........roll on January and we will start to see how good Adkins really is!

Sounds like all or nothing with you...and hedging your bets at the same time!!

Why were you optimistic when Markus arrived?......The wealth perhaps?!!

And then you moan that because of the money spent we should be walking this league. Wrong. Because PArdew didnt spend enough and did not put together a good enough squad. Its been glaringly obvious since April/May last year.

The currrent squad on top form (aka Brighton) from the start of the season would definitely have 8-10 more points but thats just the point. When we have one or two out of form and another one or two injured we have very little depth of quality and nor do we have many options particularly up front and centre-mid.

WISELY spending even another £3-5 million pounds (incl. salaries) in Jan may seem excessive but in the whole scheme of things its nothing.

You cannot gaurantee promotions and spending money does not gaurantee anything either but the way of the football world is all about money and buying/paying for the best players but more importantly the best managers to spend that money. Im confident now that we have a manager who will spend better than the previous imcumbant did.

Very few Blackpools will ever make the Premier on very small budget which is why you need a very wealthy owner........

Lets enjoy the "controlled" but "big spending ( in our terms)" while we can...........

I think we'll see Chaplow sign permanent. I also have a feeling that Antonio might be on his way back if his exposure on the 2010 review is anything to go by.

If the first 11 isn't ripping up this league why will buying a second 11 as strong as the first do it? Personally I'd just like a first 11 that's stronger, and a few spares.

Antonio improvement on Alex-O????

An alternative. Antonio has a bit more presence, more able to bully defenders.

Plus it'd be good to have the option of having Chambo on for 60 minutes or so and then letting Antonio bully the right back for the end of the game - worked well last year.

(Not that I think for a second that we'd sign him...)
