Good shout!

Mods, don't want to do your job for you but let's have nominations today with a poll opening tomorrow. So, if we're talking the 2000-2001 season onwards its from Hoddle-era. Three obvious shouts are Pahars, Bridge and Beattie. No doubt someone will nominate Michael Svensson but he only played about 70 games for us so, in my opinion, there is no way he can be the player of the decade.

Can we do player of the 90s next week, and 80s the week after and so on?

Ten seasons starting 2000-2001 finished in May.

Chris Marsden, Bridge, Antti Niemi, and Michael Svensson must get a mention for effort and guts. His attempts to make a comeback were unbelieveable. I would therefore give it to Killer, not only for his efforts on the comeback trail, but I belive he's the only player of the past decade (Matt aside) that would get in a Saints "all time" best team. On his day, he's up there with the best we've ever had.

For those commenting that the end of the decade was last year, you are actually incorrect. Strictly speaking the decade runs from year 2001 - 2010, although this is widely ignored nowadays. You may recall some people making comments about it back in 1999 when we were (incorrectly) anticipating the new millennium. Of course, the argument is fast becoming academic as populism redefines what is 'true', but it is nonetheless worth noting.

A similar argument is that about how we define a 'billion'. Traditionally, a billion was always 1 followed by 12 zeros - i.e. a million-million, However, at some point in relatively recent history, Americans had begun to referring to a billion to define a 'thousand-million'. While this used to be known as a US billion in recent times the media have begun to ignore the traditional numerical notation and just refer to it as a billion.

Anyway, aside from these arguments, which will probably bore most of you, my opinion is that our best player of the decade is...

Michael Svensson.

I accept what has been said about how few games he played for us, but it is still more than many other players who could be considered and the facts of the matter are that with him in the side we reached the cup final and Europe. As soon as he became injured we began our slide into near oblivion.

Those pedants among us would understand that a new decade would start on the 1st January of a year ending in a one (e.g. tomorrow) so you're all wrong. If you don't believe me, go back to the start of the A.D era (the year AD1) and count forward in tens - the decade ends today , not a year ago or last May. Now I'm going out to try to find a life..zzzzzzzzzz.....

Err no!! The decade starts on the first second of the first minute of the first hour of the first day of the first year!! Chronological counting is very different from numerical. You are not born as a one year old (unless your a horse).

Exactly what I said! The first second....... of the first year which is the year ONE - not the Year Zero! How could you get that soooo wrong?

I am in my 28th year, but haven't completed it so am aged 27.

Year one was the first year AD, even though Christ was still younger than one year old for most of it (he had to wait until Christmas Day for that).
