Is it me, or is John McCain....

Very creepy and not quite with it?

I watched the Newsnight special last night and excerpts from the 'debate' were shown.

I have nothing against 'old' people (being one myself) but he doesn't seem to know how to debate.

He just kept repeating the same old mantras (or should that be 'mantrae') regardless of the topic and, at times, seemed to be on another planet.

He did himself and his cause no favours IMO.

Unless something fraudulent or underhand happens, Obama has this in the bag I think.

Views / opinions / abuse?

McCain looks like a muppet, not as in 'shut it, you muppet' but as in an actual muppet, like one of the old men in the box, but a much weaker looking version.

It really does look like he's blown it. If the rumours that he wasn't tortured in Vietnam are proved true, then he has nothing and will get his sorry arse whooped.

Thanks, primarily, must go to the credit crisis for swinging it Obama's way. It may even save Brown's job.

My registered staunch Republican work mate has even admitted that McCain has little chance now, though he would like the Republican party to ask some pertinent questions of Obama's links to the now 'reformed' lecturer?, who waged a campaign of violence against the Vietnam war in the 70's, and also to probe further into Obama's involvement in Chicago politics where he started his political career, seemingly Chicago is one of the most politically corrupt areas of America along with perhaps Boston and other areas such as Louisiana.

Still I get to win 100 dollars off him if Obama wins, which will then go straight to another American mate of mine who I owe the same amount to due to a losing wager on the Ryder Cup outcome. And today I sent him the words of the Red Flag to learn seeing as he is now living in a 'socialist state", he is not particularly amused by that!!

I'm not so sure about Obama any more since his new campaign to make C02 a pollutant! How exactly are they going to enforce that then, make breathing illegal? Any legislation like that will send the US back to the dark ages faster than you can say "Osama Bin Laden".

So it's not just me who thinks McCain isn't dealing with a full deck. The thought of him and Sarah "I lived next to Russia, so I know all about them and I'm not scared of starting World War III" Palin having control of the most powerful nation on Earth sends shivers down my spine.

So you believe the racist hype perpetrated by the extreme right-wing media too, eh?

Even McCain told a stupid lemming at his rally that Obama wasn't a terrorist (or an Arab for that matter).

I don't think he was saying he was a terrorist and a lover, mor a lover of terrorists.

It was a pretty moronic comment though, from the Daily Mail school of believing lowest common denominator journalism.

McCain also has an annoying tendency to hold his arms out like a scarecrow. It's as if he's got a coathanger in his jacket. I notice he also says 'my friend' a lot.

I thought he lost the debate and especially that 'Joe the plumber' argument he kept coming back to. I couldn't understand why he continued to return to it - it's fine to make a point but to keep repeating it isn't very clever.

I enjoyed the debates though - it's a shame we don't have them over here.

But he does have links to William Ayers who was associated with terrorist attacks within America. Though Obama was only a youth at the time, he did later on in life....

The Associated Press and other news organizations have reported that Obama and Ayers, now a college professor who lives in Obama's Chicago neighborhood, are not close but that they worked together on two nonprofit organizations from the mid-1990s to 2002. In addition, Ayers hosted a small meet-the-candidate event for Obama in 1995 as he first ran for the state Senate.

Yes, you're right - he wasn't. My bad!

However, I think he first met this 'terrorist' (a preacher, I believe) when he was 8! He must have been radicalised then, then.

I'm not sure why he's perceived to have a chip on his shoulder though. I would have thought to have achieved what he has (not just being a presidential candidate but also being a professor at a very young age and going to the two best US universities) would polyfill any chips there might have been.

Is that the same Obama who was allegedly born in Kenya (thus making him ineligible to be US President) but claims he was born in Hawaii? The same Obama who is obfuscating producing his birth certificate under subpoena in the hope that he can get to the election before he needs to show it? The same hypocrite Obama who stood in Berlin and demanded a world without walls the day after flying in from Israel?

I pity the Americans. It'll be same sh it, different face. Both main candidates are OWNED by corporate america. Still, it'll be interesting to see if the election goes ahead after the cr ap hits the fan on the 21st October.

Stock up on food and make sure you have enough cash to get you through the next few weeks when the banks close.

We didn't fall for Blair, Brown and the Labour Government, we voted them in. Just as another generation didn't fall for the Conservative government over their tenure either.

By the way, I think you've mispelled Obama. We don't put an N in front of his surname over here.

Wrong .....the Preacher Is just a radical racist American hater who just happend to be Nobama's pastor for the last 20 years...and not when he was 8 ....Nobama was living in Indonesea back then, as a Indonesian citizen

The terorist in question is Bill Ayers ....Look him up. i dare ya...and while your at it ...try 'Tony Rezko' thats the guy who sorted out Nobama's real estate and owns the lot next to Nobama's house, through which. BTW is the only way you can access it

I think they are 2 really bad candidates. McCain is too old and Obama is too inexperienced and just like what Tony Blair was in 1997; all hype and no policy. Just like Cameroon today. Politics both side of the Atlantic need to get better people in there. Its all very depressing.

St George, you're a moron.

Anyone who is on the record, as you are, as saying that George W Bush has been a good president is clearly a moron.

Thankfully you cannot post anymore of your ill informed braindead drivel today so run along back to Fox News.

Oh I see. But we don't do political propaganda on this website, just political humour, so it's Obama as far as GB is concerned. Perhaps when you return tomorrow you can keep your Nobama for your friends. I would be just as even-handed to McCain, so why can't you..?

Obama has already criticised Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr so that one doesn't really hold much water.

Bill Ayers was a terrorist I guess but he's also been Chicago's citizen of the year. In any case Ayers and Obama served on a couple of charity boards together - big deal. Ayers hosted some fund raising events for Obama..again big deal.

None of this matters because as you pointed out with 'Joe the Plumber' none of them are running for president.

I think it's good that there is clear policy difference beween the two though. Obama states quite clearly that 95% of the population will benefit from his policies while McCain favours policies that reward the health insurance companies and the rich. It's a legitimate choice rather than a choice between two politicians that essentially say the same thing.

BTW if you really want to have a look at scandal then look at how the republicans stole the election between Bush and Gore. They actually did that. Ironically if they hadn't then America might not be in the mess it's in now and McCain might have stood a better chance of getting elected.

Obama is just a trendy lets try a different approach like Blair.

He has used the 'leave Iraq Afganistan' card. To me that is madness that the generations in the future will find to their cost. Iraq is on its way to becoming a safer place, the moment you withdraw those troops and it will turn into an unstable disaster zone.It is not fashionable to say it but it is correct IMO

I like Obama in many ways and think that to have a black president is tremendous, and for all those who think USA are full of crackpot rascists, hand on heart how much chance would a polital party in the UK elect a leader called Obama, or a black man. Even the good old labour party dont wheel them out, and they are supposedly the voice of the working people.

Even for St George who claims we vote muppets in as UK leaders I think it's quite obvious that the US voters are going to elect Obama. The opinion polls now are are going to be hard to reverse.

So St George, that'll leave you with muppets in charge of both the US and UK. And both elected. How about that?

This is the kind of nonsense that gets people over here a bad name.

Fact is that anyone who runs for president is going to have skeletons in the closet somewhere that people will twist to their advantage.

I haven't heard the suggestion from BTF that McCain wan't torured in Vietnam - even the left leaning media here probably wouldn't dare suggest that but I find it hard to believe that could have been covered up.

I do believe McCain is too old, he has leant to the right to get the extreme right on his side. He made a bad choice for VP.

I believe Obama is inexperienced but I think he will do more to rebuild American relations with the rest of the world. I will probably pay more in taxes if he wins.

This is my first opportunity to vote here. Who do I vote for? A tough choice between two flawed candidates. 18 days to decide.
