Sheff Saint Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 Killer's (or the PR team) have got a point thou. Still think the whole things would have been handled better if we'd have kept NP and not used every last penny we had bringing in League 2 type's in on loan. And if it wasn't Lowe and Wilde doing it, given it's pretty much their fault we are where we are. But we are where we are and this is my team no matter what and however crap this season is, and the next and even the next we will get better again and we just need to 'enjoy' the ride! Don't think theres anything wrong with positive messages. I think though that the messages put out on the OS appear to be bland, rehashes of previous messages (I'm sure I've read most of this one before "penned" by Claus), and not heart felt. There is never anything of any real substance or interest on the OS. They used to have interviews with players, coaches etc., but now its just soundbites. They should look at web sites for other clubs, there are things of interest to read for the customers (sorry supporters) telling then what is going on at the Club. Maybe they should instead take the lead from Merlion Homes web site, and say it is under maintenance. After 2 years maybe people will become suspicious though. Red And White Barmy Army Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 I don't post much on this forum, but Killer's plea has genuinely brought a tear to my eye. A fantastic speach from Killer who finally seems to be the captain and leader we have longed for - someone who truly has his heart in the club and will do anything to ensure we are successful. People on this forum need to stop immediately seeing the bad in everything positive that comes out of this football club. Forget about this sh*te board and get over it. There's nothing we can do any more. Please tell me seriously how boycotting helps in the slightest. We've tried it on varying levels now for 3 years in which time our CLUB has gone from a giant in a small pond to a midget drowing in a puddle, meanwhile our TEAM still has the capability to shine. Come 5.20pm next saturday if we have 32,000 people waiting for them as they come out of the tunnel, you can be certain the team will play with the flair, imagination and ability we have never seen before. We need to move on. Stop trying to turn the burden around onto the players and even the board cos it's just getting boring now. There's only one thing every man and woman on this forum can effect and that is the attendance vs. Bristol City, vs. Wolves the following week and so on. Killer is right. It is time for us as well to stand up and be counted. These players have the ability to perform miracles in this league with the right support behind them. I live quite a distance away now but am going to stop making excuses. I will be in that number for the rest of the season cos that is what my club needs me to do. If you were that 19 year-old making your debut for your hometown team, how much confidence would a full stadium give you? Our players are not afraid of failure like previous ones were such as the ones that took on Derby in the 1st leg of the play-offs. This team are winners under Jan Portvliett. They will absolutely thrive in front of 32,000 supporters. Now is the time to move on - bad omens of the past such as Voldermort have disappeared from memory as far as i am concerned, the premier league only has room for one team from Hampshire and with Portsmouth in freefall, next season it can be us. With 32,000 people filling St. Mary's it will be us.

gordonToo Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 The starting point in any reversal of fortunes has to be a reasonably consistent level of performance on the pitch, i.e. more of Sheff Utd (a) and Coventry (h) and less of Swansea (a) and Coventry (a). That is the only way to keep hopes alive and ensure a decent level of support which is essential if the financial situtation is to stabilise. Confidence within the club is a major factor in this respect (as the new incumbent at WHL has noted) and so far as I'm concerned this is the sole responsbility of the manager. If rallying calls are to be delegated to players and the pre-match team talk is taken by the Chairman then something is sadly amiss.

Yes it is an advertising site, but if it came out with some interesting, factual stuff, as other FC sites do, then people may take it more seriously so that when there is a need to insert some rallying calls people don't dismiss it as Lowe's bull****. Its called communicating with your customers and is a well-known technique amongst successful businesses, including football clubs. Wes Tender Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 I have the greatest respect for Killer, both as a professional footballer and as an individual. And under normal circumstances his plea would have been laudable. But he must realise if he speaks to the ordinary fans that current circumstances with the return of the two most unpopular past chairmen in the club's history means that the fan base is split right down the middle whilst they remain and that there are other pressures like the current credit crunch that are also factors in people staying away. Again, for those who state unequivocally that Lowe is in charge and there is nothing that we can do about it, that is not the case at all. He and Wilde can move aside to make way for others who are not so devisive but who could do the job equally as well or better without causing the disruption and disunity. They could then make appeals like the one that Killer has and have some validity.
Mole Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 Lowe must be getting desperate if he's getting players to read out his statements. Alain Perrin Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 You've got to respect someone who goes through so much pain and comes out the otherside with still a chance of playing. Great player in his day but feel he needs a Claus like player alongside him (I don't think he works with another combative CB). That said, ironically Svensson and his ever impending recovery played a big part in our relegation season and us failing to sort the CB situation out every season since. I just hope it doesn't cost us this year.

um pahars Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 I understand your sentiments but Lowe is responsible for this latest predictable crisis. His continued presence at the club is counterproductive, he just has a habit of alienating fans. I don't believe he can deliver the feel good factor. And therein lies the problem for me. Rightly or wrongly, as long as we aren't going great guns on the pitch, then Lowe will be seen as a divisive figure amongst many of the fanbase. We certainly need to engender a spirit of togetherness to help us get through this dark period, but sadly I feel that as long as Lowe is at the helm then we will never achieve such a spirit. If there was someone/something to rally around, then Killer's words would be seen as a call to arms. Instead, it is seen by many as a desperate attempt by Lowe to get us onside. Neither he nor Wilde can engender that spirit as there is too much history behind them and instead of uniting the supporters, they actually exasperate the divide and bitterness. .comsaint Posted 30 October, 2008 Share Posted 30 October, 2008 I would bet my bottom dollar that Killer's excellent heart-felt message are words straight from his mouth alone - and feck-all to do with Lowe in any way, shape or form.
