Lighthouse Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 We had a thread slating him after Blackpool, some even wrote him off completely. Today he sounded at the very least to be a competant 'keeper. He dealt with some awkward balls in by the sounds of it and saved a decent 1 on 1 chance, despite having a pretty poor team in front of him for the first hour. Didn't here the taters mention any errors really. Congrats to him.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 Probably a good idea to give him an away game to restore his confidence a bit. Another home game, with potentially 30k Saints fans holding their breath every time the ball went near him, could've finished him off. Good stuff. Silvercherry Saint Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 Well done Bart. I'd like to see him get some game time on loan, but can we risk him going out on loan?
derry Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 Davis gave away goals in successive games that were just as bad as Bart's faux pas. Good to see the lad had a good game in a weakened team, If Davis makes any more mess ups that cost us games and we don't sign another first team keeper we should give him a chance. derry Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 No need for such an overreaction. Just because you have never been a fan of Davis. You should read what I said. Davis cost us points in the last two matches with crass elementary mistakes. His slow distribution is awful, his dealing with crosses and communication is hopeless and he has in at least four matches made bizarre decisions coming out of goal in a panic and nearly giving goals away. Whats to like.

No he really didn't, and ever since Kelvin Davis first signed for this club way back in 2006 every manager we've had (that's quite a few) has come to the same conclusion - Davis is the better keeper. I can't see that changing anytime soon frankly.

gazd83 Posted 7 January, 2012 Share Posted 7 January, 2012 If we do get promoted, I think we definitely need a new keeper though. Davis isn't Premier League standard by a long chalk.

I'm forced to agree. Kelvin has been a fine servant of this club and his efforts will be remembered with much respect by this fan, not just as a player but as a man also. But he had his big chance in the prime of his career back with Sunderland in 2005 and (sadly) he wasn't a success at that level. Now he was playing in a struggling team behind defenders that didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either, but it seems to me we'd need to find a outstanding keeper if we get promoted, not just stick with a good one. As for Bart in the Premier League ..... too scary a prospect for me.

Golden Balls Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 If we do get promoted, I think we definitely need a new keeper though. Davis isn't Premier League standard by a long chalk. IF we go up and Leicester don't, I really think we need to slap a big fee down for Kasper Schmeichal. He is the exact type of player we'd need. Young, talented and a good head on his shoulders. I know they wont want to sell but if we unsettle him and he wants Prem football, we'll get him.

Kasper is a good shout but he's far from the finished article, he also seems to get a bit stroppy if he starts under performing.

Dellman Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 Bart's error was no worse than the England goaly in the World Cup, it happens to the best and doesn't make them a bad goaly, the trouble is it may make them a more nervous and short of conmfidence goaly
