On good authority from source at the irons

Just looked on KUMB (WHUFC forum) and there is one poster on there called Jammys78 or something that says this exact same thing.

So I assume your 'good authority' is one bloke/women on the KUMB messageboard with only 145 posts to his name on there I presume?

West Ham fan on form as always "wouldn't mind going to Reading or Southampton and absolutely battering them."

They've learnt nothing from last season. Nothing at all. They were relegated for a reason, they spent more than most teams combined and came third, yet they're still so incredibly arrogant. Makes me sick.

Was about to post the same. Some things never change. Hopefully they'll be relegated again and end up in a Pompey style financial mess.

Wonder how their boat party went.

Also I wonder how long they give Allardyce when he's playing hoof ball for the rest of the world to see and they go through an inevitable bad patch.

LOL.

They're already gearing up for another splurge on players, despite their finances... That winger, Elia, from Juve? He's got to be on a fair wedge yet WHU are in for him, allegedly... That's Robert Green's wages gobbled up in one hit...

I quite hope we do play them early and put them in their place. Horrible team, horrible supporters, horrible manager.

It seems that the best way of surviving up there (here) is to try to play football rather than defend and rely on the hoof to a big front man.

West Ham seem well equipped to play the very kind of 'football' that will get them relegated. Again. Let's hope so.

To be honest, I can't say I'm all that bothered about who we play on the opening day. First thing I do when I see a new fixture list is identify key points of the season.

I just hope we avoid a run-in in which we play teams like United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool etc in a row. Christmas is also one to look at, given the ridiculous amount of games in a row.

We may even take a small amount of comfort in the fact we've no players at the EUROs this season, everyone ought to be fully recharged and refreshed compared to other clubs who will have guys back after a lengthy season.

Just a feeling I have. I think they will be stronger than us next season

I know that flies in the face of our brilliant march up the leagues. But that is what I think

I must admit I have a similar feeling, but it's more because they will definitely splurge whereas we're likely to be more cautious. In the long run I know what I'd prefer. But for one of their lot to say outright they can't wait to 'batter' us straight away given what their club is currently like and previous performances, I just think they're woefully out of touch.

I cant remember the last time two promoted teams played each other on the opening day of the season....

Sounds like a load of s**t tbh.

...

2004/05 season that a promoted team (Crystal Palace) played another promoted team (Norwich) in their opening fixture of the season.

Fixture lists aren't completely random as they take into account many factors, but if they were random the odds of promoted teams meeting on the opening day are relatively small.

I seem to remember when Wigan came up a Sky Sports News team was sent to the DW or the JJB as it was back then, and they filmed the reaction that the club officials had when they found out they had Chelsea on the opening day. They found out by email on the same morning that everyone else found out, and the first to know was the club secretary.

There could be a sense of playing to the camera or it being staged etc, but it seemed pretty genuine. So in order for this to be true, it's going to be passed on from someone who is dealing with the fixtures at its source.

Anyway - we'll find out tomorrow.

Blimey, quite a few human thumbhads and pwoper nawtys in that lot...

I should say that I've no objections to having a get together at the end of the season, there's no reason not to, but this was planned at the start of the season for 'when' they got promoted. I've got an issue with that...

Im talking about in the premier league. So in 20 years its only happened once. Which is why its highly unlikely we will have Wet Spam or Reading

Why are you only talking about in the premier league? You do realise that football existed before 1992 dont you?

I get what you're saying, I think though that it's a fact that more goes into planning fixtures these days, and that's not a criticism of the system before or anything - these days everyone has to be thought of, rail companies etc.

Mate of mine is one of them kumb pearly queens and he reckons it was never planned as a promotion party it's just their traditional end of season cockney knees up, they had one just the same when they was relegated.

Well I remember reading a thread on it and it was billed as their 'promotion party'. I could be wrong though.

I'm just jealous we didn't organise something. I've always wanted to meet you all.

Ignoring the possibility of being a "paired club" with Reading (and therefore not playing them on opening or closing weekends and bank holidays etc), there are 3 promoted clubs, each of whom has a 2/19 chance of playing one of the other promoted clubs. So if it's only happened once in 20 years, it's actually overdue.

The fixtures have been known for weeks so theres a chance a leak could have happened. One promoted club always gets a top 3 club, usually at home so it will be on TV.

There are 3 promoted teams, and 3 top 3 teams, the probability of one promoted club playing a top 3 club is (3/19*3/19*3/19) = 9/19, so only slightly below a 50/50 chance. So it's basically as likely to happen as not.

Unless my recall of probability is fcked of course.

The fixture list isn't purely random, so you can't strictly look at it through probability.
