Hope he's back for our next game. Great shot stopping from Kelvin but his distribution was Conference League level, and his over-willingness to whack it upfield every single time rather than look to throw it out turned us from a great footballing first half to long ball lack of posession in the second.

Why did Davis keep kicking it to his left into touch? Strange.

Definitely agree, at least he made no clangers, and in fairness a decent stop from Moses (I think)

@SouthamptonFC: Artur Boruc came off at half time after suffering dizziness during today's interval, Mauricio Pochettino confirms. #saintsfc

Presumably he was not 100% before the game. When I got to my seat the team were all warming up but Boruc was not there. He may have been out earlier of course, but seemed odd at the time that he was not having a full warm-up. He really did not look completely right during the first half even before the physio went round to talk to him and his kicking was atrocious.

This dizziness could be down to positional vertigo. I suffered from it for a few months. Apparently down to fluids in the inner ear crystallizing which can be remedied by the Epley Maneuver. It's more common in those over 40 but it can happen to anyone.

I was like a drunk getting out of bed or getting up from horizontal on the sofa and whenever I was moving about quickly until it was remedied. GP wanted to pump anti dizziness tabs but the wife wasn't having any of it. She's into alternative medicine and looked it up. Found the remedy on Youtube and jobs a goodun. Hopefully Art's problem can be sorted just as easily.

To be fair the backpasses were poorly placed (to his weaker side) and his kick to touch was safety first, under instructions I would expect.

Not the case- most, if not all, of the back passes he kicked out were passed to his right foot. He then took an awful touch that took it across on to his left, which he evidently can't use, so ended up just kicking it straight out with his right. He could have either kicked it 1st time with his right, touched it to the right with his first touch (where possible) or -heaven forbid- kicked it with his left foot. All of which should not be beyond the abilities of any half decent Premier League 'keeper.

Why? This is Reading we're talking about, not one of the top teams.

Exactly. We're usually awful against teams at the bottom, world-beaters against the top sides. 'Tis the Southampton way...

Stats against five bottom teams: W:4 D:1 L:2 = 1,86 points pr. game

Stats against five top teams: W:2 D:2 L:4 = 1,00 points pr. game

It was an incredible save against Moses' mis-hit shot. Did amazing to reposition himself and time his leap to get just enough of a hand on it to tip it onto and over the bar. Look at it again, it really was an outstanding save.

Testiment to the solidity of the rest of our defence that Davis had very little else to do for the second half. The whole team must have been knackered afterwards. Lipread Lambert on MOTD at full time saying something like '******* hell'. Lol.

Reading are a Championship team. Davis is a Championship keeper. He will be fine if he plays.

Recently we have been better against the top teams.

Fair point. Think we deserved to win against Wigan, and at least get a draw against QPR, so I won't put to much into our recent stats when it comes to our ability to beat weaker teams.

Think its odd to criticise Davis for his kicking and not to criticise Boruc for his. Three times Boruc kicked straight into touch on the right side. Maybe his dizziness was having an effect, but his kicking was as bad if not worse than that of Davis. Honestly if either could kick as well as Gazza they would be far far better keepers. Of course Gazza has a few negatives in his game.

Well he didn't did he. Davis and rest of team were warming up for 5 minutes at least, Boruc was nowhere to be seen. So he went off early, I don't know how much by because I never saw him on the pitch pre-match.

That's what happens every week for as long as I can remember. The keeper that is starting heads off early, and the sub-keeper stays on to do shooting practice with the 1st team, it's because they don't want to risk the 1st choice keeper diving about all over the place and getting hurt before the game.

Fair enough, never noticed that in all the games I've been to this season (most of them).

don't even go there, thereby lies a tale
This should not be left hanging. There is no evidence to suggest any issues. Nowadays the players are regularly tested and such a problem would show up. Likewise the players would know.

I am assuming FF might be hinting at old news rather than the present

I think what made Kelvins stand out was that they were quite deliberate kicks into touch in our half, they weren't kicks upfield gone astray.

there is a small pocket of fans on here who are against KD. If KD had let in JT header there would have been the comments of why didnt come and catch it. Fans are blinkered and are not always fairminded. It seemed to me that KD intentionally kicked the ball into touch instead of blindly kicking it upfield. I doubt many of our outfield players can kick the ball accurately with both feet, in fact watching saints over the years some couldnt with either foot!
